I can agree with the liking of the iPhone 12 series

I know I would love a 12 Pro Max in black especially if it could bring back some sort of iPhone 4s comparison with slight differences

I went from the X to a 12Pro and regret it all the time. Never should have done it... there was literally no reason to other than "ooh, shiny". I'd like to take the idiots that came up with Deep Fusion and especially Night Mode out and shake them warmly by the throat.

Humm…. What do you not like about Deep Fusion and Night Mode specifically?

Was there ever a model which was worse compared to the older ones?

For me, the iPhone 4 while having one of the nicest possible form factor and absolutely best screen in 2010, was noticeably slower than the 3GS.

Another time performance was noticeably slower was going from the iPhone 5S to the iPhone 6 Plus. I did also prefer the 5S form factor.

In both instance, I believe the year on year silicon improvements, specifically GPU enhancements were not able to keep up with the screen resolution bump.

Having said that, the iPhone 12 has been an absolutely fantastic upgrade compared to it’s natural predecessor. In spite having a higher resolution screen with vastly greater contrast ratios, it boasts of better performance in almost every metric. Including gaming, videography, photography, post processing, everyday snappiness, sound reproduction, connectivity options, battery life, durability and even water resistance. All this, in an all new, smaller and lighter form factor.

So yes the iPhone 12 series is not only the best iPhone you can buy, but also the best year to year upgrade especially if you are considering the standard iPhone.

Everyone bought it because it was the first big iPhone, still worse than the 5S in design and performance.

True that!

I went from an iPhone 5S to a space grey 6, to a gold 6 plus finally settling with a black space grey 6 plus.

Added 3 units to the overall sales, it does not make the performance of said device any better.

The iPhone 5S had a more aesthetically pleasing design to me and performance was much better than what I experienced on the 6 plus.

The 12 series is really nice.
- We finally have flagship specs in a very compact format again (Mini)
- Regular 12 got much closer to the Pro while being lighter than the 11/XR
- Pro Models got a jump in RAM and storage memory simultaneously
- And yeah, in general the cams and A14 are just really great

With 10% bigger batteries, 120Hz / higher PWM freq. and 128GB entry for all models they would be perfect.
I don't expect any further major innovations, rather than removing the port (which would be silly).

"It's the best we've ever made!" huh?
Well yes, lets say some model jumps had been greater than others.
3GS -> 4 was huge in almost every aspect (design, A4+Ram, Cam+LED, Retina, Facetime, Gyro)
XR/11 -> 12 as it got lighter and more compact, while getting many features from the Pro models

Rather disappointing were the 3G (same Cam, RAM, CPU), 5C (no words needed), 6 (almost same specs as 5S just bigger and ugly) and 8 (smaller battery size, heavier, fragile glass rear, only minor improvements).

I still prefer the 11 pro over the 12 pro with the rounded corners. It feels better in my hands with the rounded sides imho. I do prefer the Pacific Blue over the midnight Green though I got to say. I just got my 12 4 days ago so I’ll probably be fine with the feel after a while

Best in absolute terms? Of course, that’s the case every year. Best for its time? I’d say no. That’s the 5 for me.

That you can't turn them off. Night Mode *especially*. And yes, I'm aware of the wide camera trick that effectively neuters Deep Fusion and that once you actually open the camera app, you can remember which tiny icon to click to disable Night Mode for that picture only.

The only example I can come up with is perhaps the iPhone 6 when it replaced the 5S?
I think everybody on this forum would agree. Poor design, lacking specs.
But we're probably just 1% of the market, as iPhone 6 is the best selling iPhone ever.

Big Screen >>> 25% increase A8 CPU, 1GB Ram, poor antenna line design, bendgate, paint oxidation. New features: Barometer lol, NFC apple pay only for US

Feel you, having a toggle to choose in camera settings would help.

Personally I do prefer having night mode on auto detect as it is in the current implementation.

You can fine tune night mode by clicking on the yellow night mode logo and then adjusting the duration of the shot. I believe when pulled to the extreme left, it will toggle night mode off.

Alternatively you could considered trying other camera apps, it might help, especially those that give you a lot of manual options.

But it won't STAY off. I have zero interest in what the algorithm in the camera thinks is a "quality" picture or not. I'm taking pictures of pieces of equipment, and labels, and serial numbers, and cables in boxes.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max was the best iPhone apple ever created. The jumb in battery life is insane. The iPhone 12 seems to have less battery life than the 11 series so Apple did not make much improvements with the 11 series.

I just love this iPhone!
I previously had a 12P and got a sweet deal on a 12M 128gb with apple silicone case for just 700$. After using it for a while I’m starting to feel that maybe this is the perfect size for a phone.
I can’t say that I feel the weaker battery as many users feel.
I do think that the price of buying a base unit from apple is too high. If they get rid of a 100-150$ from the price tag - then this phone will rocket in sales.

I have the 12 Pro Max 256GB in Pacific Blue. I absolutely love my phone. Coming from the XS Max that I kept for 18 months (I use it as a backup phone), it’s faster, better design, bigger screen, better battery. The 5G is also good and fast. I love this color and don’t want to part with it, so I’ve decided to keep my 12 Pro Max for another year. I’ll just get a battery change before the 2 years is up.

Same experience here, the 12 PM in blue is great.

In terms of design, battery life, colors, and functonality, I gotta give it to the iPhone 12 for being the best iPhone I’ve owned - I’m always one to upgrade yearly but will probably skip the launch this year. I think Apple making the same processor in all variants (12, 12 mini, 12 Pro/Max) and letting people enjoy all the main features no matter what phone they choose was a game changer.

Anyone else feel the same?

i prefer the 8 Plus. New battery in mine. Should be good for another 2 years.
Don’t like the square edges of 12. Don’t like the notch. Not crazy about swiping up all the time. OLED is a yawn.

I concur.
The quality control on the 12 series also seems to be head and shoulder above the past previous phones.
It's such a perfect combination of:
-amazing screen
-great battery life
-incredible camera
-super fast processor+ample RAM

The only knock on it...to me, is the ugly design. Coming from the X, this this is more ergonomic but is definitely a step below in looks.
Oh well I put a case on it anyway.

Way too many display and quality control issues to be considered the best release. I mean-the 12 series are the best set of phones on the market today obviously…but I think you could make the argument that none of them offer what many consider to be the perfect size (5.8”) and many preferred the curved design over the squared off design. It’s all subjective though.

I do miss the design of the X. It was lightweight and the first OLED phone released. Wished I kept if I knew how much heavier the 11 series were.. but now that I have the 12 it’s light and I’m liking the squared design.
