Can anyone explain to me why a portless phone needs 1TB of local storage? Even wireless sync 800GB iTunes library would take at least half a day. If anything that does not need 1TB storage, iPhone is the one. I just don’t think Wifi 6 can match the transfer speed of thunderbolt 4.
When I go for my next iPhone, I will most likely still pick 256GB option. 1TB is for iPad. Even if Apple decides to hamper lower tier iPhone by giving fewer amount of RAM.

Just notice ProRAW. Still. That’s not really justifiable.
Ever shoot any 4K video? I’m a musician and shoot whole performances on my phone in 4K. Those files are easily in the 30-60GB range.

Things that would make my wallet open:
  • Always-on display
  • Touch ID/Face ID combo
  • Substantially faster processor in conjunction with a compelling new use case (i.e. what is the Lidar really even for?)
Why don't you buy stuff you actually HAVE a use case for?

Gotta love the folks complaining about having the option of getting a 1TB version (if it shows up).

Although I’m not planning on getting an iPhone 13, when I do buy a phone I always go for the largest storage capacity, so I would get the 1TB. Reason being, I prefer having all my files and media library locally saved as much as possible, and my data collection is constantly growing, so there is pretty much no such thing as too much storage capacity on a device for me.

That is actually an angle I hadn't thought of before. Once you get the storage big enough you don't need to be offloading it to other areas because of size issues. There's alot of people going forward who their phone will be their only computer...so besides the raw picture folks etc. can see how people might want that.

That’s awesome but a reminder of how foolish it is that full on Mac computers only come with 256GB storage on base model permanent with no future upgrade possibility.

Couldn't agree more. It's ridiculous that any computer nowadays comes with anything less than 512.

I’m ready to slow down on upgrading so often. These things cost as much as a MacBook now.

As a travel Photographer who replaced his dslr with an iPhone, I welcome this news. I currently use the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I skipped the 12, but will upgrade to the 13 when it arrives. I know it’s not needed by the avg user, but the 1TB storage option will definitely help me. That & the improved cameras make this a must buy. The iPhone has opened my eyes to what photography can be. I find it very freeing.

1 TB model will be very expensive. 512GB is more than enough. But more options are always good.

Nothing in this article says the iPhone 13 will be portless. No rumors on iPhone 13 suggest it will be portless. Portless iPhones are still 3-5 years out at minimum. So what are you talking about?
Why are you confident that portless iPhone will not be there in the next 3-5 years? Also, iPhone 13 may not go portless, but apple’s absolute hate on ports are already well known.

I shot random 4K video before just for fun. Yes, it does take up a huge chunk of space, but I don’t have accompanying data plan to support icloud photos with 4K video so I choose to go 1080P instead.

I think I'll hold onto my 512GB XS Max for another year. I see no reason to stop using it when it still does everything I need. Battery is at 90% capacity and still easily lasts me a full day. I still have 300GB free.

So, you best hope that something does go wrong with the iPhone where it gets bricked. I will assume and HOPE that you have that all backed up to a local hard drive at home.
Yes, every day, and then that local drive is also backed up. Twice.
