I hope they've not tuned their power algorithms to favour good marketing numbers at the cost of other uses, like car manufacturers optimising their vehicles for WLTP results rather than real world usage.

Solid battery upgrades. Love my 12 but it’s battery life isn’t the best; always felt my 11 was superior in this regard.

Oh well there's always something new and improved every year. But I'm already satisfied with my 12 Pro Max battery, which lasts about 1.5-2 days and still at 100% health after a year. When it's time for my upgrade, most of these new features will also be available on my next iPhone. I prefer giant leap over baby steps.
I’d consider a 108.33% battery live improvement to be more than baby steps

Given that some of us had horrible experience with our iPhone 12 Pro Max batteries, I honestly hope that they have rectified and improved them in the 13 series.

9 months old, 128 cycle, 89% battery health. Went from amazing 2 day battery life, to needing to use low power mode just to make it through the day on a same usage pattern. As it's not 80% or below, Apple Support Rep said nothing is wrong with my battery and can't (won't) replace it under warranty. Sigh.
Samesies on my 12 Pro Max. 89%.

I wonder how much better the 13 Pro Max, battery life will be compared to my current 11 Pro Max? It will be interesting to see.

Lots of comparison of iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 batteries, but I wanna see iP11 batteries compared too as IIRC the iP12 battery was worse than iP11, so is it now just the same as iP11 or better? You can't call it an improvement if its just back to what it was before it got worse.

Wont be upgrading my iPhone 12 pro max 256 is in mint condition ios 15 gm installed ill wait for the 14 see if that's worth the upgrade. but good luck to all who upgrade.

Pretty impressive. This makes me even more confident in their ability to create an amazing battery for their future EV.

That does nothing to explain the iPhone 13 non-pro…
Doh. I concede on that, I’ll leave it instead of deleting it, that’s a sad move.
All I know is my original iPad 12.9 was horrible at battery, even video. Second gen with promotion improved it dramatically (along with the A10X with efficiency cores).
Your slamming Promotion but the pros last longer, last year the 12 and 12 pro had the same battery, if that holds true this year the variable refresh rate is improving battery during video playback.

Apple has made much of its iPhone 13 battery life improvements, noting for example that the 13 Pro Max offers the longest battery life ever in an iPhone. However, when you look at Apple's own battery comparisons versus the iPhone 12 lineup, it's the streaming video performance that the company has eked out of its new smartphones that really stands out.

iphone-13-display.jpg
  • iPhone 12 mini: 10 hours
  • iPhone 12: 11 hours
  • iPhone 12 Pro: 11 hours
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max: 12 hours

  • iPhone 13 Mini: 13 hours
  • iPhone 13: 19 hours
  • iPhone 13 Pro: 20 hours
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: 25 hours
The iPhone 13 lineup features new low-power displays, a more efficient A15 chip, larger batteries, and more power-efficient components, all of which make for dramatic improvements when streaming, as the numbers above show.

For example, Apple claims that when streaming video, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max last nine hours and 13 hours longer than last year's equivalent models, respectively. Taking the same metric, the battery in the iPhone 13 mini manages 13 hours, which is longer than even the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

With video streaming services so ubiquitous these days, not to mention Apple TV+ (and obliquely, Fitness+), Apple has clearly factored the computations involved into the power optimizations that it has achieved through the tight integration of its hardware and software.

Of course, battery life varies by use case and many other factors, so actual results will vary, but if they're anything near what Apple is claiming, binge-watching your favorite show should be a cinch on these latest devices.

(H/T to Jack for pointing this out!)

what are your thoughts on buying a cellular version of iPad mini instead of an iPhone, if cameras does not matter

If your willing to deal with a subpar phone experience for a bigger screen it’s probably a great idea. Problem is most people have phones for important reasons, business, contacting emergency services, etc. A subpar experience where you have to jump through hoops to contact people just won’t cut it.

The apps available for the iPad can enable it to be a pseudo phone but can not replicate the reliability of a real phone. I’d honestly save for a Samsung foldable if you have to have a screen that big on a phone, it’ll be a better experience.

25 hours of video streaming on the iPhone 13 Pro Max....

yeah, sure..... let's just say that I'm skeptical.

if it sounds too good to be true... well... you know the rest. :)

somewhere in the law offices of a bunch of lawyers who need new yachts.... they must be keeping track of this.... can anyone say "Apple 25-hour video streaming battery performance class action"?

Couldn’t agree with you more. My 12 pro max last about 1.5 days and at 99% battery life since I got it December 2020.
