How good is it to not have to worry about the battery anywhere near as prior generations?!

I'm trying to do my own MagSafe battery testing since getting the iPhone 13, but waiting for the battery to deplete is taking ages ?
I have made a choice to not use any wireless charging, Qi or MagSafe. Wireless generates heat and I am fine with slow charging with a 12-watt charger.

For me, i've ditched 3rd party wireless chargers in the home as i'm not convinced they have my devices best interests at heart!

MagSafe seems to err on the conservative side when charging my iPhone & AirPods, so i'm happy to use it.

In the car, I don't have as many options for the adapter, but i've purchased a MagSafe puck for there also.

Keeping as much of the wireless ecosystem with Apple as possible should be ok imo.

Since the "set up as new phone" I have slightly better autonomy, nothing dramatic, but 5% night drain has appeared again, it was 0% before. Always that damn Find My network.

Also, super strange, at night I use airplane mode, switch wifi, bluetooth and cellular data off, and still this morning I had whatsapp notifications of a few minutes before, WHILE being in airplane mode with everything offline. My home router was offline. How was it possible? It must not be really offline then. Never happened before. Weird

Maybe give Apple Support a call. This would be the perfect time to do it as you have setup your phone as a new device. What you describe is not normal. That is what I would do.

Maybe check

The battery obsession here is quite remarkable. I don’t remember the last time I looked at the battery usage. I just plug it in at night and then plug it in again the next night. I keep a battery case handy, only used it a couple of times. But I never spend time worrying about the battery. I have better things to think about and more important stuff to be concerned of. If I started to worry about the phone battery, then I’d be more concerned about my mental state.

It's called an exchange of information and discussion. Instead, you felt the obsessive need to lecture everyone else that you are a know-it-all, who thinks they know better then others, trolling.

hello. Just stumbled upon this thread.
What I find strange is the huge gap between users posting insane battery life all over the internet, like 10Hrs + of normal usage and still having 50% battery and people who can’t get through a day.
What I’ve found out is that connected devices are a big problem, some are reporting battery drain from connected Phillips hue lamps, others from connected Apple Watches.
What made a big difference for me was setting up the phone as new.

First I restored a backup from my old XR leading to about 4hrs of usage a day and having to recharge in the evening. Then I set the phone up as new which seemingly solved some problems because it’s a lot better now but I still can’t get anywhere near 10 hours.Overnight it’s constantly loosing power, just some percentages but it’s going down.

I have disabled most location services, most background activities, hey Siri, wake on pickup, most messages besides mandatory ones. I’m on dark mode and I’m using a static background picture.

Epitome of the point mentioned. Personally I wouldn’t take anything personally here, it would be a sign of me being unstable ? thanks for the input!!

And yet you wasted your time posting in this thread, Pretty funny and ironic.
Cheers.

Having the battery drop a few percent is normal in standby. It looks like you were on track to have just over 8 hrs battery life. Focus on the bar chart and look at those apos which are having big battery drain. Maybe stop using those apps, maybe one at a time, and see how your battery usage goes. Can be a bit time consuming. That is what I would do.

Never seen anything like this before. Whilst on charge.

Thank you for your reply. I saw that iPhotos was very active in the background, I guess it is still syncing pics with iCloud in idle.
I lost 10% of battery tonight. But I found out something else, I don't know if this was mentioned before in this thread:
I left the iPhone connected to the charger although it was showing 100% for 2 hours more. When I disconnected it and started using it, it didn't go down although I was using it for an hour or so. It stayed at 100%.

A lot of people are claiming that their phone is on 100% the whole night and that they don't loose a single % in idle. This makes no sense, even Apple is claiming that some percent during night is normal if everything is kept in default mode. It's checking for mails, it's checking for messages, all the push data is processed.

I guess that the 100% value isn't shown correctly.

It looks like you had very minimal battery drain in standby. I was really surprised that 15.2 improved the battery life for me.
I’m using 15.3 beta. I’m actually getting worse standby time than before. But not by that much. IPhone is place in same location when I go to bed. I broke a record a couple of nights ago. Lost 6% overnight during 7 to 8 hours sleep. Almost on par with Samsung territory. 🤣

100 to 99 takes the longest time to drop. Based on what i have seen on my phone, starting 80% it starts to go down faster.

I put my phone in Low Power Mode in standby when I go to sleep. This limits OS activity which will help with battery drain while in standby. I really don’t care about receiving e-mails while I sleep.

100->99% is not accurate. Regardless of how you use it it’s gonna take a lot longer for that drop than any other. It’s just the way iOS does battery readings and had been the case for as long as I remember.

Apple is over reporting the percentage 4%-5%. That is why you see it stay at 100% for several hours. I always charge to 80% and after phone is done charging, I see the same over reporting by iOS. As the phone battery depletes the over reporting gets smaller, at one point will be <1%. For example, my phone battery is being reported as 23%, CoconutBattery shows 22.3%.

The way you can see this is with the CoconutBattery app.

EDIT: Just checked CoconutBattery after I charged to 80%, iOS is over reporting the battery percentage by 2.5%.

Have you noticed anything fixed in 15.3 that was broken in 15.0-15.2? The one issue I am still waiting to see get fixed is the touch registration issue, the issue where iOS is not always reacting when the displayed touched. The other issue that I am waiting to get fixed is with the Music app, intermittently a random song will be selected and put in Now Playing in Control Center. The only work around is to delete the Music app and install a new copy from the App Store. Beyond those 2 things, I am pretty happy with my 13 Pro Max on the whole.
