I upgrade from an iPhone X to the 13 Pro Max and really the only noticable difference (apart from the larger screen) is the cameras. So far it has been well worth it. I've got 4 kids so I'm always capturing them to be able to enjoy when they've grown up and flown the nest.
Here's photos I took of one of my kids standing in the same place at the same time of day 4 years apart. That day being the day I got he iPhone X and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

What’s funny is when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus came out, (7 years ago) Apple went on & on & on about how great their cameras were. That was when the “Shot on iPhone” ad craze began and they really pushed it.

I used a 6 Plus for 6 years and I can say unequivocally that the camera is really pretty bad compared to just common sense (not new phones) and Apple’s marketing blitz back then was utter BS.

Could be wrong. Looks like the first phot's worse quality is largely due to the use of 1st gen portrait mode on the IPX - it hasn't aged well.

Finally, my iPhone6s Plus with its horrible horrible battery that I need to charge at least 4-5 times a day has died. I am moving to iPhone13Pro and am waiting for its delivery in Nov. I am still Apple's bitch despite its horrible stance against right to repair.

Yeah, it's fine regardless of repairability if the 6S lasted that long (6 years). Mine is ok so far.

None of those cameras’s photos look very good to me. I occasionally use my iPhone XR camera to take throw away photos, but if I want a true keeper photo you can bet I’ll use one of my good ILC cameras rather than a tiny, Cracker-jack box camera from a smartphone. When choosing to upgrade an iPhone, the camera is the least feature I care about since I know tiny smartphone cameras are not good for much except social media and selfies.

You could have bought a good photo camera instead

For whatever reason the photos form the 6 make it look like it either has dust in the lens, or, has grease or something else on the lens. While it is not even close to an awesome modern camera, the photos here make it look worse than garbage.

Not amazing shots, but some I recently took with my 6 while comparing to my 11 Pro Max.

Maybe I shouldn't upgrade my 8 after all.....

Just echoing what everyone is saying, I know in the real world my wife's 11 Pro takes much better pictures than my 8. Something is clearly wrong with these photos.
