But I wonder is mmWave 5G really that useful. Even South Korea and Japan only have mmWave in limited locations.

When you're in an Airport and need to download a movie or some other file quickly, yeah it's that useful. 2500 - 3000 Mbps vs. 50 - 300 Mbps is a huge difference.

For when have it and can use it, it really is many times faster then Midband 5G or any WiFi connection your going to have.

Android phones have 27MP (108MP quad-bayer) cameras, behind-screen selfie cameras, 120Hz, foldable phones, on-display fingerprint sensor etc etc.

I love Apple's software. But the hardware (as nice as it looks!) is feeling quite a few years behind by now thanks to the tiny updates in the last few years. The 13 is no difference. Tiny tiny increments only.

Any thoughts on if Apple will "pull up" eligibility for the new phone for those with the "iPhone every year" upgrade program, given the iPhone 12 launched in October last year (meaning no order until October next year). I would think Apple would want to capitalize on launch orders instead of making everyone wait until October to purchase.

I also wondered this. I am on the monthly upgrade with Vodafone (UK) but I am doubtful they will allow an early upgrade for the release of the 13.

I’m only mildly tempted to upgrade, given iPhone XS Max I am using is plentiful for my daily tasks, and 5G is going to be the only thing that matters to me. I also don’t need 512GB on iPhone. I just need to sync fewer songs and that’s it. Plus a portless iPhone wont support iTunes anyways. Unlikely iPhone 13 but maybe iPhone 14.

No, you'll have to make the extra payment/s if you want to upgrade early. Same thing happened with X to 11 upgrade.

I'm only interested in the new mini, but only so long as it isn't as ridiculously expensive as the current version and also has a much better battery life.

No big surprises. The hardware side of things has flattened out because there’s only so much left to do. Anything else is probably going to be on the OS side of the house. In other words, features segmented by firmware implementation.

I’ll help you. Visit Maui, Hawaii.

I hope you get your shiny iPhone 13 before taking off to your honey
Maui has been on my list for a long time. I'm thinking we'll do our 10-year there (just hit 7).

On topic, if they release a 13 mini with a larger battery I will definitely spring for a pre-order. I can't get over how perfect the mini form factor is, but it's definitely no battery champ, so any boost they can give it is welcome.

I've really got to think, with EVERYTHING going up in price, in every stage of just about everything, that these new phones are gonna start out at $49 more than the 12.

Could the new "features" be even more underwhelming? Are they going to do their usual presentation for this model? Does bigger battery warrant it?

Sigh.... Since the X, the iPhone releases have been quite iterative. I'll get a new iPhone this year, but it's my first new one in 4 years. Since Apple stopped throttling the phones, my 2017 X is still speedy and has decent battery life with the original battery. It has never had to "shut down" or whatever other ridiculousness Apple said would happen.

When the iPhone was subsidized and I paid $700 for it, I bought one every 2 years. Now that it's $1000-$1200, they don't throttle, and the "innovations" are iterative, I get one every 4 years. Apple doesn't get more than $300 a year out of me for a phone!

Most exciting feature for me will be:
Stainless steel Matt black color! Love the look of the matt black alu regular iPhone 12.

also looking forward to a smaller notch and a 120hz display.

You would kinda hope. Some people cited different circumstances with the X, but this last year was a little wacky nutty different.

Given that Apple is a bloodthirsty soulless corporation, I would not expect them to do this. I'm on an upgrade every year cycle with VZW and the delay will effect the future cycles, so I would have to pay more. It sucks, but I'll wait it out. I think I would have to pay like $80 to get out early when trading in my phone.

By October, there should be less of a rush on I would hope. I currently have a 12 Pro, but would probably get the "max" version of whatever is in the next cycle.

I've noticed I use my phone more as a mobile computing tablet than a phone. When I do use it as a phone, I put it on speaker or it's hooked up to Car Play in my vehicle, so the extra battery and screen size (and probably better camera) is a worthwhile trade off for me.

I would HOPE to get a new phone before the cruise I'm scheduled to go on in November sails. Even that's not looking good now, unless Delta burns out quick here like it did in the UK. I expect the worst. I'm eligible to upgrade 10/22 and we are set to sail 11/13.

A new phone is one of my few "guilty pleasures" in life. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, or gamble.

I DO splurge on the occasional mocha latte from time to time from a local independent coffee shop, which I absolutely enjoy.

Something like the combination of the smell of books and coffee....

Really hoping for a 1TB storage tier on the Pro Max, considering the top-tier iPad Pro now has 2TBs. And before all you "I only use 5GB on my phone" people get your knickers in a twist, I only have 28GB of free space on my 512GB 11 Pro Max with another 1.2TB backed up in the cloud. Lossless music files and High-Def video editing eat a lot of drive space, and reliable cellular service or wifi isn't a given when traveling (either on the subway or outside the city/country).

I have an Iphone X and tbh, I really don't see the need to upgrade yet. I've never been sitting around with my phone and complained about performance or connectivity speed.

So that mean those with (Apple iPhone upgrades program )getting early upgrade this year ?

Not many 'game-changer' things coming. I don't see any reason to upgrade your current device for another year. (Not to say iPhone 13 won't be a superb phone, it will). But I don't see that many people dropping what they have for essentially an 'S' model year. Every year better battery life, new chip, etc.

Besides 5G (which has been a bust so far to this point), and a new chassis. We have essentially had th same iphone since X/11. Change my mind.
