France has laws - Apple must comply.
True on loads of issues in many many jurisdictions.

Same as when Apple installs their CSAM tool on everyones phone and then will be forced by jurisdictions all around the world to "use it" -- Apple won't even know what they are being forced to scan their own customers phones for.

there goes saving the environment excuse to not include power plugs also but oh yes, it is ok to have another packaging for earplugs. Sure sure Apple, it is for the environment. That accountant CEO sure knows how to ...............

Apple has no choice
This is following the law in France

If Apple really cares about the environmental impact of including the Earpods in the box, they need to cowboy up and pull out of the French market.

All new iPhones should come with earphones and a charger. Next year the box will be eliminated and the phone will come wrapped in paper like a piece of meat from the market.

It's hilarious that Apple even attempts to tell us that with CSAM technology, they won't be compelled to do photo scanning that they don't agree with..

They can't even tell France no on putting in EarPods

They will do what they are told -- putting revenue at risk isn't part of Tim's DNA

France: We are lobbying to change all phone connections to USB C, to reduce e-waste.

Also France: you must include wired earphones with every single phone sold.

Two different reasons in play
It's more nuanced that just trying to dunk on the e-waste angle

It must be a slow news day at MacRumors. It’s required by law, and this was in affect for a while now.
You think they would be busy writing 3 new step by step guides on how to launch the new settings app.

Good law, but why only 14 years old? Adults are equally affected and there are just too many "smart" devices nowadays. Some that don't need bluetooth/wi-fi and it's still there anyway.

And EMFs aren't the only issue with these headphones... these two are equally as bad:

Consider investing in a HomePod or similar to give a break from inserting these in your ear and/or at least get an over-ear headphone.

You may find hard to believe those things may happen over time only because you plugged the Earpods/Airpods, still they often do.

According to your logic, apple should stop selling their iPhone at all markets outside of US and maybe australia UK because every other country will impose “stupid” laws that “restrictive to profits” while apple is being targeted a lot BECAUSE OF their unchecked profits.

Ever heard of something called “lay low and be humble”?
No I think Apple has such large fan base in those countries they can actually pull out and piss the fans off enough they push their politicians to allow Apple to sell how they want. It’s called leverage

You assume that the citizens don't like those specific laws..
Not everyone is worried about "Apple making as much money as possible"

In either case -- I highly doubt that Apple is interested in being in the middle of all that, nor should they be.

Obey the laws, keep doing business == profit!!

(just like they'll do with CSAM technology also... ;) )

as someone who doesn't really follow what goes on in France, Im glad they pointed this out. but it's weird that france would want earpods instead of a charger.. if ya gonna pass a law, make it a useful one..
FWIW, 3rd party lightning earbuds are often not as good as Apple's. OTOH 3rd party chargers tend to be better, notably the GAN ones.

due to a law in the country that requires all smartphones to include a "hands-free kit" in order to protect children under 14 years of age from potential electromagnetic radiation.

Are French legislators getting medical information from authoritative sources or random wingnuts on Facebook?

“a "hands-free kit" in order to protect children under 14 years of age from potential electromagnetic radiation.”

And yet French is number #1 in Europe and perhaps the world in utilizing Nuclear Power plant. 80% of their power grids come from nuclear energy. Why don’t they worry about radioactive radiation from that?

Because not everyone lives near it and you don't hold a nuclear power plant near your head?

All joking aside..
Why are people so worried about what the French people are doing or not with their laws?

If this is a priority for them - great!
Why does anyone else care?
