This photo looks suspicious, the font seems too bold.
The horizontal green pull tab also doesn't look like what's found on Apple's current iPhone packaging. Apple could change it up this year, of course, but that design is more typical of smaller thin cardboard boxes that aren't shrink-wrapped, like Apple's cases, chargers, and of course AirTags.
And I’m surprised. Given Apple skipped iPhone 9 cause of the negative connotation in some cultures I thought they’d do the same for 13. I was hoping for it to be called 12s.
As others have pointed out, superstition had nothing to do with Apple skipping the iPhone 9. It was entirely marketing.
The "iPhone X" was revolutionary, and therefore deserved to kick off a whole new generation of naming. In fact, I feel like Mac OS X would have been called the same thing back in 2020 even if there had never been a Mac OS 9.
If Apple was concerned about superstitions, they would have skipped the iPhone 4 years ago, and even iOS 14 last year. The number "4" is very unlucky in China as it sounds like the word for "death." In fact, some Chinese folks take this so seriously that they won't use the number "4" in any buildings. However, Apple had no shortage of Chinese customers lining up to buy the "iPhone Death." 😀
However, to give you an idea of how serious this is for some folks, many Chinese buildings avoid
all references to the number 4, so you won't see a 4th, 14th, 24th, or 34th floor, and the really tall buildings jump from 39 straight to 50. It also isn't used in any individual unit numbers either. Chinese builders even do that outside of China — some friends of mine live in a condo here in Toronto that's exactly like that. It's quite crazy, as the number 4 isn't found anywhere in the building — even the numeric keypad on the lobby intercom omits the number (the button is there, but it's blank).
