Here’s my shot of a leaf held up towards the window. Absolutely love the camera

They look excellent all around. I'll wait 'til it hits the Mini phones next year though 😅 until then my other phone is an S9 which gets a lot closer than my SE2. Or if I'm bothered enough I'll use the olloclip...

Well, let's do a more extensive quote from that article

Clearly, the author of that article has an easy time reading the serial number off the bottom of a Mac or back of an iPad, or from the strap slot of a Watch, or the IMEI from the SIM card holder of an iPhone.

I guess you can call that limited use. How often do most of us need to give those numbers to Apple tech support so we can arrange a repair? But I guarantee you that there are Etsy jewelry designers and eBay antiques dealers who are delighted to have this new tool.

But let's face it, a lot of "real world use" has nothing to do with practicality. What practical use is a football or tennis racquet, jewelry or a Halloween costume, a painting by Renoir or a Chopin etude?

As someone who purchased his first macro lens more than 50 years ago, the real world use is that it gives photographers another way to view the world around us. One of my favorite statements to make with a macro lens is "You can find beauty in the ugliest of places if you look closely enough." There has to be some real world value to that.
I think maybe you thought I was doing something other than mocking a bad review?

I got the Pro. Ok so I’m not a photo buff. But I was curious about the camera.

I am amazed at how good the camera is. This is series pro level hardware and software. It is light years ahead of my old 11.

if you’re on the fence about the pro or regular 13, go Pro. The camera alone is worth it.

My dog’s fur and a close-up of my jeans. Look at the tiny fibers of the denim, it’s bonkers.

I like texture photography.

For iPhones that don't support the new macro mode, just put a piece of foil with a pinhole in front of your 1x camera lens.

The pinhole creates a small aperture, which results in more apparent depth-of-field and an overall uniform sharpness.

Only took 20 or so photos so far and I feel like every macro shot is rewarding…
Wow! The depth of field is pretty good. I've been using a Moment macro lens with my 12Pro and although it's pretty good - it doesn't have near the DOF, meaning a lot more seems to be in focus from your shots.

Does the Macro function help with the Magnifier tool accessible from the Control Center? With my XS the Magnifier is handy but you can't get too close or everything gets blurry. If you boost the magnification too much everything gets really grainy. Seem like the Macro enhancements could fix these limits.

I've been trying to take a picture of my eye for the last five minutes at work. It's hard.

The short answer is, yes.

The Magnifier tool is a "digital zoom" - it enlarges the existing image. So that enlargement magnifies whatever flaws existed in the original. If the image is out of focus because the camera couldn't focus on something so close to the lens, then it'll be even more obviously out of focus when magnified.

If you’re into any type of photography at all, this smart phone feature alone would be worth upgrading to the iPhone 13. Just amazing detail that Macro-mode captures.

I’ve been using the optical zoom lens on the iPhone since iPhone 7 Plus for macro. This is a photo I took with my 12 Pro Max using the 2.5 lens. Great macro photos from iPhone have been around for quite some time.

This flower photo was taken with my 7 Plus. First photo I realized the zoom was a great macro lens. Anyway, just adding my thoughts and experiences. I love photography so much. Isn’t it incredible we get to do this anytime wherever we are with such ease?!

I have to say as a photographer, I am impressed. I’m going to do a side by side comparison against my Hasselblad X1DII. While not having a medium format sensor, the camera on the phone performs exceptionally well.
