90hz+ looks really nice, but unless you are using it side by side with a 60hz device your brain adjust super fast. If you are someone that uses an iPad Pro and iPhone side by side, you really can feel the effects.
I see how nice it would be for scrolling, but anything else - meh, idk.120 Hz display... the one feature I don’t understand the buzz about. I’m sure I would disable it in setting in favor of battery life.
I'm not. I'm still waiting for a rectangular screen OLED iPhone. If Apple were to allow iTunes Movies/Music on Android devices, maybe I wouldn't care so much, but I am really bothered by the notch in iPhones/hole punch in galaxy phones. The 12 just came out. Man, I’m getting iPhone fatigue.
It favors the battery life for you - ProMotion slows down to much lower refresh rates on the fly, when the material is static (i.e. you’re staring at the same thing for more than a second), then speeds up the millisecond you start scrolling.120 Hz display... the one feature I don’t understand the buzz about. I’m sure I would disable it in setting in favor of battery life.
If there's something I'd love to see on a new phone is a buttery-smooth display.120 Hz display... the one feature I don’t understand the buzz about. I’m sure I would disable it in setting in favor of battery life.
You are the one who is electing to read a site every day that provides all the latest rumors on all things Apple. The 12 just came out. Man, I’m getting iPhone fatigue.
Stop carrying rocks in the same pocket? In all these years I’ve never managed to scratch a single iPhone screen.Hopefully they make the displays more scratch resistant. The 11 series of phones is pitiful in the regard, and the 12s don't move the needle very much.
As I stated to another individual:You are the one who is electing to read a site every day that provides all the latest rumors on all things Apple.
Yep. That’s far more interesting than 120Hz for scrolling. I don’t notice a difference scrolling between my iPad Pros and my 11 Pro.More interested in 1hz for an always on display like the Watch.
it’s something u have to see irl. i’d trade 4 gens worth of apu & dsp improvements for a 120hz oled
It's such a huge visual enhancement. I use it all the time on my non-apple devices. I run my S20Ultra all day without any battery drainage. I wish my iPhone had it. Especially when rocking two phones.
Because people want more hertz, just like they want more nits and more pixels and more X and more fps, etc. Welcome to the spec wars, where more always means better and less always means worse.
Unlike Android's half-baked gimmick, where it has been a mess and a battery and performance hog (on some models you have to choose between maximum resolution or maximum refresh rate, or between maximum battery/performance, etc).
iOS implementation -ProMotion- adapts the refresh rate, so if you're watching a 30fps video the screen runs at 30hz, if you scroll text it runs at 120hz, the lock screen runs at 5hz, etc... so it can even boost battery life by running the screen lower than the fixed 60hz...
I agree. I had it on the ipad pro. Realized I didn't need a "pro" device, so I downgraded to an iPad Air 3, and put a few bucks back in my pocket. Haven't missed 120 Hz for a second.
neither. Had it on my iPad Pro. Don’t have it on my new Air 4 and I don’t notice a difference 😅
I see how nice it would be for scrolling, but anything else - meh, idk.

Not to mention, an often over looked hurdle unique to Apple is production numbers. There are FAR more iPhones sold than any other singular Android. Look how many iPhone 11 alone Apple sold last year vs any single Android. That makes production much tougher on suppliers, etc.It seems like you believe companies can just snap their fingers and come up with a product, firmware, support infrastructure, marketing materials, website updates in short order. And usually when iphone features "catch up", they set a new high standard.
I definitely notice a difference using my wife’s older Gen 1 iPad Pro with 60Hz vs going to my Gen 2 and Gen 3 iPad Pros. I don’t notice it a difference on my iPhone tho.I am supposed to notice it in my iPad Pro and to be honest I see no difference with my previous iPad pro that did not have ProMotion. Maybe I am just not the target user I guess.
Better late than never. Looking at how it took them four years to deliver something as basic as the AirPods Max, no wonder it takes till the cows come home for iPhone features to catch up.
For half the price, Sony XM3/XM4, Bose 700, B&O PX7, etc.I didn't realise the AirPods max were "basic"? What other comparable "basic" headphones are there?
do they need it for marketing purposes? yes, almost every Android have it - and iPhone 'power' users want itI120 Hz display... the one feature I don’t understand the buzz about. I’m sure I would disable it in setting in favor of battery life.
Edit: I have iPad Pro with ProMotion, I have never ever noticed the difference with my previous iPad.
120hz on non pro models will likely be 2022 I imagineWhat about regular, non-pro iPhone? I mean, yeah, sure, I don’t need Pro-motion on a non-pro device, and I’m ok with a regular refresh rate. But this LTPO panels could allow us to have much lower power draw from the screen, improving the battery life (something the iPhone mini could use, to be honest)
