Anyone else think the size of these cameras are getting out of control? I’m all for improved cameras on smartphones, but at what point does the entire back of the phone just become a bunch of camera lenses? The 12 Pro Max’s camera is absurdly huge in every way as it is, I don’t know if I want it to get any bigger than what it already is.

In my opinion, the iPhone X/XS were some of the best looking iPhones ever, in part because of how simple and clean the camera looked.
I care what it does, not how it looks.

Awfully strange to be buying a $1000 phone because of how it looks.

I'm probably behind the times here, but we're assuming iPhone 13 is 2022 or 2023 right? This year we will have something like iPhone 12s that will maintain the current formfactor a while longer?

IMO all those lenses are a blight on the phone as it is, I would rather see them focus their efforts more on form factor and functionality, I think they're sacrificing a lot for this unnecessarily. It will only ever be so good without an external attachment.
exactly. i still use my canon for my pro photo needs. i never considered using my phone for that, but i'd love a good zoom when i'm hiking or whatnot.

You know perfectly well Apple will require you to buy a new case with the new phone :p
I'm going to be so annoyed if they tweak the camera just enough to necessitate a new case. I upgrade every year and have always kept the same case for at least two generations since the "S" cycles allowed me to do so. I'm not excited about the prospect of buying a new leather case for a third year in a row.

If it’s thicker how are you gonna fold it? Isn’t that the future folding phones?

A 0.2 mm thicker iPhone Pro Max is quite alright.

Can they make it larger and lighter and give the screen anti-reflection?

Larger cameras is excellente.

Give it a more powerful light (flashlight) and let the user turn-on the light while using the camera.

Nice! Fellow Canon fanboy myself (6D MKII). For me photography is a serious hobby so while a phone camera is great for point and shoot (and usually the most handy) I'll never use it for actual photography.

Wow, that camera module is starting to get h-u-g-e. Hopefully Apple can pull off something that looks really nice! Impressive that the lenses are becoming bigger - together with computational photography, how long before these replace professional cameras?

Couldn’t agree more. The cameras are good enough now (and have been since about the iPhone 5 tbh)

The pro is just so damn ugly that’s the main reason why I wouldn’t buy one. The 12 somehow gets away with it and looks nice. I’ll take nicer looking over slightly better camera specs anyway. For people who just want overkill specs with no thought put into the design there’s plenty of Android phones to choose from. iPhones are meant to look nice

yea, i don't have any illusions about professional photography on smartphones, nor do i feel it's a necessity. but in order to have good quality pointandshoot on a smartphone — good optical zoom is essential.
One hundred percent. I get the pro name for the phone, but using an iPhone in a pro photography setting is an edge case. Doesn’t mean we can’t want and need the best possible camera you can cram into this little pocket-sized slab of wonders.

My thoughts exactly. The cameras are already really good. I have the 11 Pro and the photos are as good as what my Canon point-and-shoot could take. And the 12 cameras are apparently even better. How much better can the cameras be by making them bigger? Is it really necessary? I get that phones have replaced point-and-shoot cameras but I don’t need them to go beyond that...I’d rather they just refine the cameras they have, improving the sensor and the lenses at the current size.

I thought the same but then you kind of get used to it. They do this incrementally so it does not look 'too' off compared to previous gen. In fact, I remember thinking that the iPhone X lense didn't look as nice as the iphone 7 plus. That the iPhone 11 pro didn't look as nice as the XS...

Now I think it would look weird to go back to smaller modules.

I wish the phones were getting thinner and the camera bumps were getting smaller...I guess this is a “pro” phone and pros are ok with additional heft.

Waiting for the iPhone Shaver Pro

Same. mobile phones will never replace the quality of a solid DSLR - and I know, they’re not meant to but I wish there would be less focus on camera improvements every year and a focus on battery improvements, etc. It’s handy to have a decent camera with you at all times but I also notice we’re not looking up and enjoying our experiences anymore as we’re so focused on documenting everything.

How big those lenses will get in the future? And how many of them will be there? It's ridiculous.
