I've got 4 months to determine if the 13 Pro is worthy upgrade from my 12 Pro. As of this moment it really doesn't look like it but I'll probably end up upgrading anyways like I always do every single year lol

Well, if you are use to upgrade every single year, you better upgrade sooner than later, that way you will enjoy the latest phone the more. If I were you, that’s what I’d do 😉

Summation: People who previously had the 12 now attempt to justify buying marginally improved release of same phone, and why you should waste money now versus wait till next year for the worthy upgrade.

It's an S model, let's not over-hype it. Only worthwhile if you need more storage space.

Yeah I know, the only problem is that I'm on AT&T Next so I have to pay off half of the phone before I can trade it in for a new one. I decided to hold off on the 12 Pro when it came out last year only to upgrade a few months after launch, hence the reason why I won't be able to do so till 4 months from now :(

The Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern says that while the improvements are welcomed, they alone are not sufficient enough to convince an iPhone 12 user to upgrade.

When people say this, and in defense of my $66 upgrade from 12 to 13, do they take into consideration carriers basically letting you upgrade for free?
in order for my wife to take advantage of the heavily discounted trade-in offer, she would have had tp jump to one of AT&T's unlimited plans, about $20 more per month for 3 years. which effectively rendered the "free" part moot. we're back to pseudo-contracts.

all I really need to know is, did iJustine like the 13? ;)

same. im on the X, still runs the same with ios14
No concern with battery improvement? And is it not worth it for you to upgrade with a carrier and get it for the cost of taxes only? I’m pretty loyal with my carrier, don’t feel the need to run from one to the other so I am able to just pay taxes and upgrade each year or every other year.

Good point. I get that. I’m already on TMo’s max plan, mainly for the 40 gb hotspot for the kids to watch iPad movies in the car. We travel for several hours per trip on alot of the weekends.

Is it really wasting money to take better photos and have better battery life for $66 (taxes) per year?

Exactly - carriers are pushing nice discounts on these, so if I can upgrade for essentially no cost to me, I'm not complaining. I'll gladly take improved battery life, performance, cameras, etc.

Definetly not worth the upgrade if you have the iPhone 12 or even the 11. The september event was so disappointing.
I thought that on announcement day last week too, but seeing that through Best Buy I can trade in my launch-day 64gb 12 for a 128gb 13 and only cost me a flat $79.99 (plus tax) to upgrade? Seems like well worth it for more storage, fresh battery, and faster phone.

It’s worth the upgrade to me from 11 Pro to 13 mini. I don’t care about 5G but I really want a smaller phone. 13 pro mini would have been perfect but that won’t happen. Hopefully the 13 mini is popular enough to justify a 14 mini or this will be my last iPhone for several years.

this will be my first iphone..just cant decide between the pro and the iphone 13..will be getting 256GB just cant decide if its worth upgrading for 200 bucks more to get the pro version..seems its just about the camera usage

Still not enough of a jump to move from my iPhone X. Phones sadly seem to have hit a point where you don't need to upgrade them every year or two, nothing is pushing my phone and the design wont be enough of a change until we see a under screen camera... or better yet, a iPhone Pro with no cameras.

That is kinda the kicker. Most never seem to take into account the cost to upgrade. I know that they vary depending on situation, but still would be nice to give some sort of scale or at least state the assumption amount. It is worth upgrading from a 12 to a 13 for $400? Probably not. Is it worth upgrading from a 12 to 13 for $50, you bet!...

I wouldn't call it free, depending on the context. Many carriers require you keep the plan for a minimum time frame or forfeit the credits.
