Based on y’all comment is it safe to say it is not worth the update to 13 mini/13 as an iPhone 12 mini user?
With the mini there’s a little different point of view. If the rumors are true that there will be no 14 mini then a 13 mini upgrade may make more sense to have a newer device that will last a bit longer until Apple decides again that not everyone wants a giant screen.

Well, what I stated applies also to the mini.
Ok, then your point is even less valid as I was assuming you were assuming I meant all iPhones. Apple already has products (including the SE) that don't fall into the every year cycle. Adding a much slower selling (or niche) model like the mini to a 2 year cycle wouldn't really apply to your "Apple won’t be comfortable being left behind" statement. Also Apple really doesn't have any competition in the smaller premium phone market to be left behind anyway.

Going to use your post as an IMO ...

This never hurts as it may fix wifi and 5G issues

Not seeing the benefit. My OnePlus 9 Pro is so much quicker for most things than my 12 ProMax even though the 12PM gets better Geekbench scores and is supposedly faster. Just not in day to day activities. Unless I am doing something cpu intensive.

If you are an iPhone camera buff, I can this being a benefit

I'll hold off on this. Significant to me would be I can go two days instead of one day. An hour or so ... no.

Useful if you use your phone outdoors a lot.

Long term device holders ... maybe

Let's see what apps take advantage of it, especially if going to pinhole on 14 model

If you are a big video buff this would be cool

Only if you are a base storage buyer.

For some this may be a great upgrade, others, not so much.
A big item is the discounts or trade-ins many carriers are offering.
Significant Battery increase has to be a 100% increase. That seems a little ridiculous.

As tempting as it may be to upgrade, I think you should base your decision on how your 12 mini is performing.

If battery life is not working for you, perhaps yes, upgrade.

Unless you’re getting a great offer from your carrier(like $50) to trade up, I’d say no.

Your 12 should be good for at least 4-5 years. By then we’ll have a foldable iPhone so size won’t be an issue. 😏

- Improved Qualcomm modem
- 10 - 15% faster A15 processer vs A14
- 47% improved light gathering for main camera
- Significantly improved battery life
- Brighter display (800n vs 625n for iPhone 12)
- 1 year longer support for iOS
- Smaller notch
- Cinematic Mode
- Base storage doubles to 128GB for same price
I have the XR and I won't upgrade even though I can easily afford it.

- So the modem in my XR is bad? I don't know.
- The XR is super fast even with the most demanding games.
- I have a Canon DSLR for vacations and anniversaries that no phone can match, maybe iPhone 23 will... All the images I shoot using a phone are for food, selfies, and docs.
- I have a charger at office too.
- The notch is still there.

More storage is always better...

The iPhone 13 has me excited for the 14 simply bc Apple is gonna be forced to make some real changes. I mean how does low light video look like this still?

Significant is far more than an hour or two. That's what? 10% or so?
Depending on how I use it, my 12PM gets 8-12 hours.
So with the 13PM I might get 9-14?
Either way I will need to charge it overnight and may have to sip during the day.
10% (approx) is not a significant increase.
Not a bad increase. But not what I would categorize as "significant".

Seems like Apple has a ways to go until we have a good decent battery that will last more than a day…… had a feeling of this when they were hyping improved battery (like they do every year).

Which competitor device has that available without tweaks out of the box?

longer support for iOS?! What a stretch to justify a S release!

iPhone 12 owners need only wait another year and they'll have no notch at all! Then suddenly the 13 will look very very dated.

Hm please Tell me how that notch will magically go away from my device in a year!

These YouTube “reviews” are like playground mates peer-pressuring you to do something when you made up your mind it’s not in your best interest, until you do it and regret doing so as it did not live up to the hype. 😝

I have an XR, with the Intel modem. The reception at home is mediocre at best, with numerous people on the other line telling me that I'm cutting out. Supposedly the Canadian Intel modems in the XR were problematic. For myself, I'm very much looking forward to the new Qualcomm modems and better reception.

All of this in real life usage comes down to - pretty much the SAME experience using it as its predecessor.

I have a 12 pro and ordered a 13 pro for store pickup. I plan to go and test the camera. If my skin tone is improved as promised I’ll keep the new phone. If not I’ll return it and head back home. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Touch ID on the on off switch would have made this a killer upgrade. And if they'd been able to make it a hole punch front camera then it would have been the biggest iPhone upgrade since the X. As it stands, it's very solid. I'm disappointed with the notch still being so big though and no way to unlock with masks on apart from an Apple Watch and passcode. Apple needs to do better.

Better specs for sure (as every single year), but I still don’t think it worth the upgrade from 12 or even 11.
“Worth” is just so hard to say. To whom? The average user with an average budget? A tech enthusiast who values the latest and greatest? A rich person?

All of which is to say, paying a few hundred for an upgraded device (one that many of us use more money than anything else) with a new battery and a new warranty is a pretty reasonable thing to do for many people.

All of THAT said: I’m undecided on upgrading my 12 mini.

The iPhone 13 series looks like a solid upgrade due to the camera improvements and battery life. Interesting to watch this for comparison:
