Possibility of 120hz/always on display on the pro models will be a nice upgrade even from the 12 pro models. Throw in rumours of portrait video and upgraded cameras across the range should make a lot of people happy.

iPhone 13...yaaaaaaawn 🥱My Galaxy Z Fold 3 512GB should be here tomorrow. Can't wait! Y'all enjoy your "new" iPhone with super sweet, totally amazing, upgraded cameras and nothing else. Oh wait, I forgot you might actually get 120Hz refresh rate, and a smaller but still completely ghetto looking notch. What a treat!! Until Apple releases a foldable phone (and not the Z Flip style), I'm out.
Thanks for the update?

I’m with Apple as long as they keep making the SE with a home button and no notch. The notch is ugly and FaceID is stupid. The definition of “Innovation” in these big tech companies eyes is “what new thing can we do to trick the masses into believing they need it”.

Don't get me wrong, I still love iOS, MacOS, and my 27" iMac Retina 5K but the Macbooks, iPad Mini, and phones are just too outdated anymore. Also, I use an iPad Mini along with my iPhone daily so having two devices in one just makes sense for me. Until Apple releases a foldable phone option, I'm done.

I would enjoy an upgrade from my XS, which is by no means an old device but the battery has been through the ringer and I do use my phone camera daily so an update would be nice.

I am holding off until they either go USB-C or ditch the port however. I can’t introduce another Lightning device into my life in 2021, it’s ridiculous. All my other Apple and other electronic devices have USB-C now. I just have to keep a Lightning cable for only my phone.

yeah I got one coming too , it was time for something different

The notch is ugly and
Yep. It certainly is. No way around it.
FaceID is stupid.
Nah. It works quite well and is great for apps. Easier than Touch ID for signing into apps. But in current mask world it's a PITA. Apple Watch does help with that but it's not ideal. That's why I'm confused why Apple aren't putting Touch ID and Face ID into the new iPhone.

i'm good with my 12 Pro Max. some nice changes with the 13 but not nice enough to ditch the 12 and spend hundreds buying a 13.

i'll check out the iPhone 14 next year but i can see myself easily waiting for the iPhone 15.

Slightly smaller notch, slightly better performance and slightly better camera are the leaks? 2 of those are table stakes and the other is around the infamous notch which seems like it’s sticking around.
Hopefully they’ll be some additional surprises. What’s everyone’s thoughts on price?
Exactly. There will never be any revolutionary new phones. They are a mature technology. There will only ever be incremental improvements. The most drastic change that can occur is if someone develops new battery tech that will allow much longer battery life.

I love Face ID. Works great. It it makes sense for them to add Touch ID to the power button since they already have the technology

<rant> Like so many others, the camera quality of 2 or 3 generations back was already plenty good enough for me. It's annoying that I have to pay for 'upgraded' cameras - that seem to take over the entire back plane of the phone - in order to benefit from e.g. an always-on display. Let the Pro models go nuts on camera features, but give the 'regular' models all the same Pro upgrades other than cameras. And what is the deal with power on/off?. I can never remember which buttons I need to push simultaneously to power cycle the phone. How about simply holding the power button for e.g. 5 seconds?!

My main reason for 'upgrading' this year will be to go back to the non-Max size, as I am tired of stuffing a tablet in my pants pocket. I have long ago succumbed to Apple's upgrade cycle by accepting the monthly iPhone payment and upgrade program as a cost of living. Take my money already. Damnit. </rant>

If it's only 120hz, I'm not upgrading from 12 Pro, no way. I doubt they can get an amazing upgrade to the camera either. We hit diminishing returns on phone cameras a while ago. The only thing they can upgrade is video capture. 4k 120 fps maybe? That would be a buy for me.

For someone who is supposedly moving on, no need to announce your departure.

I still love my PB 12 Pro Max, plus am staying even and skipping 13 for 14! Well that remains to be seen, looking forward to the keynote. Who knows maybe this is the year I break the yearly upgrade habit

I agree that the tiny incremental updates since the iPhone X are a bit of a joke, even the camera updates aren't much to write home about in my opinion. The photos I can take didn't get thaaaat much better to be honest.

But not many people care about foldable displays. I certainly don't. As long as a foldable display means that my phone gets twice as thick in my pocket, I don't want it. Most people, especially those who carry their phones in their pockets, don't want a brick in their pocket. Thickness is the most important dimension of a phone's form factor when you carry it in your pocket, and foldable phones are just way too thick. I think as long as they can't make foldable phones considerably thinner, I believe Apple will stay out of that game. I personally don't find the foldable Galaxy phones great (and I would never ever buy a phone with Samsung's disimproved proprietary Android version).

And honestly, people are over hating the notch. Nobody I know cares about it. Would it be great if it wasn't there? Sure, but I don't mind it much. I'd rather have secure FaceID and a good front camera than all sorts of compromises just to avoid the notch.

I wouldn’t even want a foldable phone Apple does what’s tried and true and the design is what makes it marketable! The fold is too fragile and clunky when in the pocket and don’t even think about taking it to the beach or where there’s lots of dust or debris. Enjoy your fold which will break in 1-2 years and only get 3 years of OS support!

I can do whatever I please, and will. I still have some Apple products, but I am not a fanboy who will buy a new Apple product that has almost zero innovative upgrades just to brag to my friends at Starbucks.

I do agree that there has been close to no real innovation since the iPhone X, at least not in ways that make the phone truly more useful.
