Almost more ram than the base Mac Mini.

Almost more RAM than storage for most base Mac products

Someday Tim Cook will realize the prices for storage have changed since 2009, maybe in his grave

One thing I'm going to watch: will Apple upgrade the Lightning port to support USB 3.0 speed connectivity and 27 W initial charging rate under USB-IF PD 3.0?
That’s actually a more beneficial upgrade for a lot of users than the DRAM. I had no idea that Apple let you record ProRes on your iPhone that would have to be. Transferred to a Mac or iPad through the equivalent of a swizzle stick interface. What idiot in hardwares dev thought that was a good idea for the target consumer?!? 2022 and we’re still using USB 2.0 on iOS devices? This is the dichotomy of Apple in that they have these super fast SoCs which are all gee whiz and then hamper them with useless connectors. Dear Apple, we still need to physically connect our iOS devices to a Mac or an interface for full functionality. D’oh!!!

I thought the 14 Pro was getting 8 gigs of RAM to accommodate the huge increase in megapixels and 8k video recording? Also having a third iPhone in a row with 6 gigs of RAM seems unlikely to me given the frequent RAM increases in recent years.
Why?
We still dont have a great way to send them to our Mac!

I'd prefer USB 3 speeds but truthfully it hasn't been a significant issue. My wife and I charge almost exclusively via MagSafe. I suspect that's true for the majority of users, which is why there isn't a bigger outcry about it.

The supercomputers in our pockets are about to get even more powerful. Apple's SoC and electronics tech is amazing.
It’s just that, WHAT are these supercomputers really good for?

AR? Sure… but current phones handle fine.

Camera processing? I guess.

Apps? Really?

Video and photo editing? ? that’s what laptops and desktops are for.

Faster interface navigation? ? yeah, Apple thanks.

Maybe I don’t know things, but, geez, it seems unnecessary only to keep progressing for progression’s sake.

I cannot wait to see how Apple will announce that the regular 14 models will stay on the A15 chip. Maybe they just won’t say anything at all, and only announce the A16 chip and its features when they introduce the Pro models.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they announce it period. Apple doesn't talk about RAM in iOS devices, so what are the other differences with the 13 vs the 14..?

To be honest, even iPhones with 1GB of RAM run surprisingly well.
My iPhone 5s is still fine.

8k video recording would be insane, even on a 1TB phone. I know Samsung has already done it, however with the prores and DV recording options one could add, 8k video would murder a drive really, really fast.

Perhaps when they allow 2tb drives it's more of a realistic proposition.

I guess it depends on the usage, but even by 7 years ago in 2015 I was complaining about memory related issues with my iPhone 5S. Moving to the 3 GB iPhone 7 Plus in 2016 was a revelation.

As for storage, now that we're all on iCloud, even 128 GB is more than we need.

Can't wait for the new "Advanced Pricing Strategy*" for the whole lineup. The only worth now to pay imo is gonna be the pro's and you're gonna have to show them the money of course.

I bought an iphone 13 and was planning to buy an ipad pro 2022 this year but now i think it's time to start moving back to android.

I think I’ll be good this year to hold onto my 13 PM. Unless they really blow me away with something during the announcement. Already have amazing battery life, got my high refresh screen, great cameras etc.

Also heard the A16 is based off the same architecture as the A15, so may not see much of a performance increase either.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see but I’m pretty happy to hold onto mine for another year. Maybe my wife will want a bump from her 12pm

Of course it runs fine. iOS doesn’t really do enough to actually need the ram. If they ever introduce multitasking, then it will need more ram.

If Apple felt that the iPhone 13 Max Pro needed 2 more GB of RAM than the non-Pro 13...then why not then give the 14 Pro Max 8GB of RAM? (I'm asking for a friend.)
I like big apps and I cannot lie. So I hope we get that 8GB. (AND an announcement about dropping plans for on-device scanning)

If true, that's great. I'm looking at getting the 14 Max for the wife, and 6 GB would be perfect. I was a little afraid it might have 4 GB like the 13.

At what point did you know you had used up all your ram?

Of course it runs fine. iOS doesn’t really do enough to actually need the ram. If they ever introduce multitasking, then it will need more ram.

The iPhone has had multitasking at the OS level at least as long as they have had copy and paste.

If the frontmost app needs more memory, background apps will be reaped and will restart when they get focus.

The alternative is the frontmost app fails until you go and manually kill background apps (although often, that failure is just the app crashing - apps typically deal poorly with memory allocation failing).

That is going to be true whether the apps are fullscreen or in windows.

Someone needs to do a study on how much data is wasted by safari reloading pages throughout the day and the power wasted to do that.

Whenever Apple allows third party browsers without web kit they will eliminate this problem and be king of the hill and people will leave safari in droves.
