Yes, I read the article. Did you read the entire thread discussion? Perhaps not, so I'll summarize. The general consensus is that it's pretty sketchy info, especially for a product that isn't even available until October. The iPhone 13 mini launched at the same time as the iPhone 13, but the iPhone 14 Plus launches 3 weeks after the iPhone 14.

Only a few people in this thread think the 14 Plus will sell worse than the 13 mini over the course of the year, although opinion varies as to how good it will sell overall. Some of us think it will be one of Apple's best sellers, while others think it will be a poor or mediocre seller, but most people don't think it will sell anywhere near as bad as the mini did.

The iPhone 12 mini also launched later so that's no different, not to mention during a pandemic where people were staying at home. The difference is that unlike the mini the plus does cannibalize pro max sales so if Apple has any sense it has to sell a lot better to make it worthwhile.

Apple likely couldn’t fit the satellite antennas into the mini, so it’s gone this year. It’s way too early to see how well the 14 Plus will sell. Also keep in mind you can still purchase a 13 Mini from Apple, so that form factor is still there.

I doubt that's the reason, just a matter of sales. Anyway I'd be happy if Apple did mini/plus on and off, meaning two years of mini then two years of plus then two years of mini and so on. That would mean having a plus and mini always available, for example you'd keep the iPhone 13 mini released in 2021 for sale through 2022 and 2023, then in 2024 the new iPhone 16 mini would come out, at that point the 2023 iPhone 15 plus would remain for sale through 2024 and 2025, with a new plus release in 2026.

I'll never understand how people consider the mini battery life to be horrible. I have a 12 mini which generally lasts fine for my 8-9 hour day of regularly checking social media and using the web. The 13 mini has even better battery life, so I don't see how it wouldn't be find for someone using a small phone as one should use a small phone.

Obviously it won't have as good battery life as a large phone if you're trying to watch a bunch of media or play games on it, but why get a small phone if you want to watch a bunch of media or play games?
Well, my last phone was a 13 Mini, and I replaced it with a 14 Pro because of battery life. 8-9 hours isn't enough for me. I got it because it was light and small, so yeah, I made a mistake, but I had to try.

7 plus user for the longest time, I have a 14 in hand and already miss the wider display of a Plus sized phone. Thought I wanted a smaller and lighter phone + definitely wanted on launch day. Right now I would take the 14 Plus.
