It's because of the mad pricing... 200EUR+ price hike is keeping customers off.
You need to pay 1000EUR now for the ENTRY iPhone? wtf apple?!
And.. what for? The same SoC as the iPhone 13?

They are pushing customers away big time...

Fruit company: you can always buy SE

Lol xd

I've spoken to numerous non techie people and they all know Apple is skanking people using last years A15. Also on top of that when they increase the price £100 here in the UK people notice.

Its been in the big tabloid newspapers over here, many articles pointing out to Joe public that Apple is ripping off customers this year.
That makes my exact point, they have no idea what an A15 is and whether it meets their needs they just respond to the propaganda, errr marketing, errr journalism. In this case Apple's marketing is not doing as good of job (spending as much) as in other areas and Samsung or other Android propaganda is winning.

I am techie, have designed computer boards, have written software in assembly to mainframe and I could care less what chip is in my phone. It's just a freaking phone. But hype sells to uninformed people.

So many people I know want a mini-sized option but didn't buy a 12 or 13 because they just didn't need to upgrade yet. Now they have no interest in the 14. I don't, either, because there's not a mini size. Even with a mini size, I'd prefer most of the "pro" level features, and the steel construction. I think Apple could simplify the line up and get more sales. Let's hope the next SE is in the mini body. And let's hope the recession subsides (that could be the main reason for low sales anyway).
Yep, we have 2 family members that wanted to upgrade original SEs to this years mini. But no, we'll now wait to see what Apple does. When you buy a phone to be just a phone (I know hearsay to Apple) we don't need to upgrade so often.

So… are we discontinuing the plus too? Just like the mini.
Not a chance. The 14 + 14 Plus will likely significantly outsell the 14 Pro + 14 Pro Max over the course of the year.

In contrast, the sales from the 13 mini were almost just rounding error. Well, not quite, but its sales were just horrendous, below even Apple's low expectations. (According to supply chain analysts, they had to cut 13 mini production several times.)

I know. I was just taking a jab at Apple. The normal 14/14+ is a joke. Barely any update at all.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will be huge sellers over the course of the next year. They will be the "go to" contract phones that the average consumer will buy. Carriers will probably offer them over the next few years, even when the 15 is available.

No ones going to be queuing up for this on day 1.

Quite popular ... did you even read the article? It's selling worse than the mini.
Yes, I read the article. Did you read the entire thread discussion? Perhaps not, so I'll summarize. The general consensus is that it's pretty sketchy info, especially for a product that isn't even available until October. The iPhone 13 mini launched at the same time as the iPhone 13, but the iPhone 14 Plus launches 3 weeks after the iPhone 14.

Only a few people in this thread think the 14 Plus will sell worse than the 13 mini over the course of the year, although opinion varies as to how good it will sell overall. Some of us think it will be one of Apple's best sellers, while others think it will be a poor or mediocre seller, but most people don't think it will sell anywhere near as bad as the mini did.

Too expensive for what it is. Here in the UK it costs the same price as the 13 pro did last year.

When you are paying nearly £1000 for a phone you don't want it to be the model that doesn't get the best specs and software features.

Pricing varies by region of course. Pricing hasn't changed at all in Canada and the US (which I think represents roughly 45% of worldwide sales). Furthermore, the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have been discontinued.

If you can find a 13 Pro Max today for cheap, then great, go for it. In fact, I've been recommending people check out Costco in Canada for the 13 Pro Max, as they are selling the 512 GB 13 Pro Max for only $50 (US$38) more than the 14 Plus (which isn't even out yet). However, 13 Pro Max will be sold out in most places worldwide relatively soon.

My point still holds, the plus is too expensive for what it is in many markets. It's $899 in the US for a phone that doesn't have the best processor or camera that you can get in an iPhone.

There are just too many products in this lineup. Five different models of iPhone o_O

Most people don't even know what processor they have in their iPhone. Camera is important for more but for some people, camera doesn't matter either. In contrast, what is totally obvious to everyone is the size of the phone, and in our family, that is very important. For us: iPhone 14 Pro Max > iPhone 14 Plus > iPhone 14 Pro > iPhone 14 > iPhone SE.

And personally I think 4-5 models is just about right, but not with a mini. Nobody wanted the mini.

Well we will have to see. The early signs are that it is at least one model too many and they have already had one flop (the mini) since moving to this five model line up.

They make this even worse by keeping the old models around.

When I go to the Apple Store site in the UK today I can buy eight different models of iPhone. Including last years 13 and 13 mini and the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are almost identical. It's far too many.

On that note, for the iPhone 14 (non-Pro non-Plus).

It turns out the buying power of salary vs iPhone is basically the same now in the UK vs. Canada, while in Denmark and Norway it takes less % of income to buy it.

It’s selling well and will be released LATER meaning sales will catch up when release date comes.

Now if Apple would ACTUALLY release a mini model that’s ACTUALLY small THAT would sell.

The iPhone 12, imo, will start to go away. When that will happen, few of us can say.

So why replace the mini with the plus that is selling even worse? People were obviously buying the Pro Max already if they wanted the largest screen.
Apple likely couldn’t fit the satellite antennas into the mini, so it’s gone this year. It’s way too early to see how well the 14 Plus will sell. Also keep in mind you can still purchase a 13 Mini from Apple, so that form factor is still there.

The mini battery life is indeed horrible. A model with a somewhat bigger battery would still be bad for battery life, just not as bad... unless it's big enough that it's no longer a mini. Having Pro features would make it even worse, and raise the cost even more.
I'll never understand how people consider the mini battery life to be horrible. I have a 12 mini which generally lasts fine for my 8-9 hour day of regularly checking social media and using the web. The 13 mini has even better battery life, so I don't see how it wouldn't be find for someone using a small phone as one should use a small phone.

Obviously it won't have as good battery life as a large phone if you're trying to watch a bunch of media or play games on it, but why get a small phone if you want to watch a bunch of media or play games?
