'iPhone 14 Plus' Rumored as Actual Name of Standard 6.7-Inch Model

In case their M1 chips and iPhones were evident enough, Apple’s relationship with Pro, Plus and Max is set to ‘It’s complicated’
Maybe similar to how "Max" is used on the Macbook Pro chips, they are reserving the "Max" name for the iPhone Pro.

The plus moniker is quite suitable imo. It nicely separates the standard iPhones from the Pro line.
Remember that Apple doesn’t name things based on what makes sense for us, they focus on creating clear hierarchy between products with catchy names for customers who may know nothing about the rest of the line, and it’s the correct strategy.
That’s the reason why iPhone 2022 is worse than iPhone 14, or why it doesn’t matter if Max means something different for iPhones, Macs and AirPods.

What's wrong with:

The Plus moniker used to indicate extra features, not just screen size. The 6 and 6S+ had OIS, the 7 and 8+ had the telephoto camera.
Max was meant to indicate "same phone, just bigger".

Product naming at Apple is probably the companies biggest weakness. Someone should come up with a sensible and consistent naming standard, and then implement and stick with it over the next decade.

When you get Pro Plus, you get both the bigger screen and the max performance. Keep it simple.

You can't sell last year's model with that naming scheme.
So, then, what are the rumored marketing names?

- iPhone 14 Plus (6.7inch + A15)
- iPhone 14 Pro (6.1inch + A16)
- iPhone 14 Pro Max (6.7inch + A16)

- iPhone Old Plus
- iPhone Old Pro

Apple naming is like theoretical physics. Even our brightest minds can't come up with a theoretical model that explains how everything works.
Max has referred to the larger size since 2018 and since Pro Max will presumably still be used to identify the larger size Pro, I don't see why they would need to use both Plus and Max names in the 14 line.
For simplicity, my vote would be for:
iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Max
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max
But perhaps Apple wants "Max" to be more than just about size and instead refer to the "greatest" version of the lineup.

iPhone Max (for larger basic iPhone)
