iPhone 14 Plus makes perfect sense. Here is my prediction of the names:

iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max

Heh. That doesn't make sense, since S and L are the same size, and M and XL are the same size.
I was thinking that they could do:

iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Max

very disappointed that every iphone is now a phablet except the mini and SE.
We used to laugh about phablet Andriod phones...

Of course, they have to clearly differentiate the 6.7's.

LOL, such a bold prediction.
iPhone 14 Plus makes perfect sense. Here is my prediction of the names:

iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone 14 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max

I always assumed they moved away from "Plus" for hardware since they moved more into "Plus" for subscription hardware (Apple TV+ etc). That makes it kinda weird to go back, especially for just one model in the lineup? I guess I've never understood the need to name the different sizes of the models separately, instead of following the iPad Pro/MacBook Pro model of just having one model with different screen sizes, which IMO works well.

I prefer the iPhone 14 Plus name. Keep the iPhone Pro line up "Max" separated. It's meant to be exclusive to Pro/higher end models only.

I think we all know why it can't be the 14 Pro Plus

Apple is expected to announce four new iPhone 14 models at its September 7 event, including a standard 6.7-inch model that has been widely referred to as the "iPhone 14 Max" in rumors. However, the device could actually end up having a different name.

iPhone-14-Plus-case.jpeg

According to a photo of an alleged iPhone case from Apple, shared by Twitter user "Tommy Boi," the new 6.7-inch model might actually be named the "iPhone 14 Plus" instead. This would result in the lineup consisting of a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Of course, a photo like this could easily be photoshopped, but the "iPhone 14 Plus" name is still a possibility even if the leak is fake. The name "iPhone 14 Plus" could help to distinguish the device from the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and make it clear that the device is not a maxed-out model in terms of specs despite having a large 6.7-inch display.

Apple last used "Plus" branding for the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017. Since then, Apple has used "Max" branding for its largest-sized iPhones, including the iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

An argument can still be made in favor of the "iPhone 14 Max" name, as Apple selling an iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max alongside an iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would certainly provide some consistency. We'll ultimately have to wait and see which names Apple announces at its event just seven days from now.

As for the source, Tommy Boi accurately leaked some of Apple's new iPhone case colors last year, but it's unclear if the cases were authentic or replicas.

Well The CAMERA cut out is Too Small. So that might indicate NON Pro model.

Funny how you NOW prefer it after just hearing of the possible naming yet never voiced issue the dozens of times it was referred to as iPhone 14 Max.

Also nothing is "exclusive" to the Pro in name when (inhales) PRO IS THE EXCLUSIVE NAME!
"Max" is MEANT to distinguish the Pro phones by their size. Just like it would distinguish the regular phones by their size. And "Pro" is what distinguishes them from the regular. Completely redundant to rehash the old "Plus" moniker when it was replaced by "Max"

This would result in the lineup consisting of a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Why not just call the iPhone 14 Pro Max the iPhone 14 Pro Plus? Seems dumb to use 2 different terms to mean the same thing. So it would be:

iPhone 14
iPhone 14 Plus
iPhone Pro
iPhone Pro Plus

I think we all know why it can't be the 14 Pro Plus

I'm no expert in trademark laws, but it seems the two industries are disparate enough where this shouldn't be an issue, especially since it wouldn't simply be the "Pro Plus" but the "iPhone 14 Pro Plus".

Or they could simply substitute the mathematical symbol (+) for the word: iPhone 14+, iPhone 14 Pro+

Broke: iPhone 13 Max
Woke: iPhone 14 Plus

Pro and Ultra are cool. Max is dumb.

I think this is the model thats gonna sell a lot followed by the standard 6.1, Pro Max and then Pro. Apple has this figured out this year. And its not like they are gonna stop selling older models either.

Agree, don't forget Apple iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus model contains the last year's iPhone 13 chip. More profit for Apple. Nothing is going to waste.

Why not just include the screen size as the product name? Both the iPad and Macs do exactly this.

6.1-inch iPhone 14
6.7-inch iPhone 14
6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro
6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro
I actually read years ago that it’s phone carriers that insist on every phone having a different name for marketing materials.
This was around the time that Apple ditched the numbers for the iPad and introduced just “the new iPad”, and apparently they were thinking about doing the same thing for their next phone.
I believe at the time it was the iPhone 5, but the rumor was they just wanted to call it “the new iPhone”.
But phone carriers insisted they give each phone a different name, so they have and continue to.
That way in their commercials they can say “we have the new iPhone 14 Pro Max” instead of saying “we have the new 2022 six. 7 inch iPhone Pro”

will sell like hotcakes. the price for a phablet and cognitive associations with the Plus moniker.

Well done Tim Apple. Pure innovation

Naming it "Max" like the Pro Max would be a fail. I've said this ever since the 6.7" 14 standard iPhone was "leaked" and you I stand by it even if Apple decides on "Max" instead.

Product names should be unique and easy to remember. "14 Plus" achieves this much better than "14 Max" when there's already a "Pro Max" in the line-up.

I love it. While they're at it, they should drop the "14". Macs and iPads don't have a revision number either.

If Apple does one thing right then it's to (mostly) make easy to remember product names that both signify what product category the product belongs to but also ensures that you won't confuse it with other similar looking products in the same product category.

More importantly, "Max" is quite clearly, on-the-nose marketing speak for "maximum, the most of everything, more than all the others" while "Plus" signifies something like "with something additional" but not "the most of everything".

The standard iPhone 14 with the 6.7" display is bigger than the 14. But it's not the "maximum" iPhone 14 you can get in the line-up, that's the 14 Pro Max.

Apple always strives to make the value of each product in a given lineup as obvious as possible and a clearly segmented "tiered" naming strategy is one way it achieves this.

Pro Max = S tier
Pro = A tier
Plus = B tier
(standard) = C tier
SE = F* tier

*Sorry, I just hate the 3rd Gen. SE so much. It's become such a terrible value-proposition. 😅

If true, good move by Apple. Not saying I like their naming system, but naming both the normal 6.7 and the pro 6.7 "Max" was destined for confusion. At least this way we get different names for each phone in the line up.

That would make sense if they didn't offer a "regular" iPhone 14 "Plus" that had the same screen size as the iPhone 14 Pro "Max", since the last word of those two names refers only to the display size, not any other features. It makes sense with the iPhone 13, because the "Max" is indeed the biggest phone in the 13 lineup. The "Pro" in the name is what differentiates the other features in marketing.
