Pretty sure iPhone 14 design was finalised long before this milestone...
The point is they're testing several designs simultaneously and figuring out which one would be the way to go. The design every year is finalized about this time, very early Spring.
As was shown a few years ago when the veil was lifted on a past set of delivery dates provided by leakers, the leakers WANT folks to think that the design is finalized in the same year that it’s to be produced. When, in reality, that’s QUITE irresponsible from the perspective of building a physical device. :) We know now that everything you hear about things happening in the supplier pipeline is being reported on a 3 to 6 month or more delay. It’s not as cool to say “It was finalized awhile ago” so it’s more like “I’m hearing that the design is finished” which, of course, is correct, but doesn’t provide that EXTRA information that what they’re hearing is old.

I'm on the fence on whether to upgrade from my iPhone 11. I've recently been in situations where I wish I had a telephoto lens, and the iPhone 5 design will really get me if it ends up selected by Apple. I'd prefer the notch over two holes though, though none would be killer!

This means internally they are already designing iPhone 15, which will likely be my upgrade grade from my iPhone X.

I'm definitely not upgrading my 13 Pro Max this year.
I know I told myself that last year too, but this time I intend to stick with it....... I hope......lol

The updates just do not justify the high purchase price for me any more......I end up upgrading then once setup I feel little has actually changed. Hence I want to wait for the iPhone 15 to see what that brings to the table, and whether that upgrade feels more like an upgrade.....

Please come back here in September to show us your shiny new iPhone 14. Somehow you cannot be trusted with your promises ?

Still can’t see a reason to upgrade from my launch day iPhone X. Battery life is the only issue but I’m managing.

Yep. I think it’s only numbskulls who think Apple are reactive in a 6-12 month timeline.

95% of the design of these products are likely sketched out 18 months to 3 years in advance, and roadmapped 5+ years out.
Finalized doesn’t mean planned. It means finalized. As in from this point forward we can confidently say nothing will change and can proceed with production.

Only numskulls think a product design is finalized at the planning stages.

I love my XR and usually don't upgrade early at all. The 4S was the first iPhone I ever had though, so if the 14 comes out looking anything like this and the pricing is right, I might pull the trigger just out of nostalgia.
The nostalgia began when Apple resigned the iPhone 12 series to incorporate the frame design of the 4/4S/5/SE etc. Now it looks like it will go a step further by going back to the round volume buttons.

iPhone X / 11 - 5.8" screen, rounded edges - my favorite so far. The new ones are too large, too brick like. Making an existing 13 Pro sized phone even thicker may look clean and I can build a house with them!

If eSIM were easier to move around, I would have both the max and the mini so I could pick and choose which I wanted at times. When I’m doing something active or going out for the evening, a smaller phone would be great. I dont like to stare at my phone when I’m out to dinner but use it to read the menu or pay so I need something, just dont need a lot.

Speaking of eSIM. I’m ready but I dont think a lot of people are. Many still want the physical SIM available and for the case of switching phones, it does make things easier.
It shouldnt be this way though. I should be able to login to my provider from the phone and just have it work.

Apple's largest supplier, Foxconn, has begun trial production of the iPhone 14 Pro, suggesting that Apple has finalized its design as it moves into the early stages of device manufacturing, according to a report from the Taiwan Economic Times.

According to the report, Foxconn will manufacture the higher-end models of the iPhone 14, while Luxshare, another Apple supplier, will take on the two lower-end models. The report notes that Foxconn will begin OEM trial production of the iPhone 14 Pro to ensure it can produce the device to Apple's standards in preparing for mass production later on in the year. From the report (machine translated):
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are expected to feature a significant redesign, invoking nostalgic design choices with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. iPhone 14 Pro Max renders shared by Apple leaker Jon Prosser suggest a thicker overall chassis and no camera bump. Those same renders suggest circular volume buttons and a redesigned speaker grill.

One of the most noticeable changes rumored to be coming to the iPhone 14 is the removal of the notch in favor of a pill-shaped cutout design. Multiple rumors have suggested that Apple will debut a single punch-hole and pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display to house the front-facing camera and TrueDepth camera system for Face ID.

The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to include four variants, including two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models. The updated iPhone lineup will mean the end of the 5.4-inch iPhone "mini," first launched with the iPhone 12. Alongside an updated design, the iPhone 14 is expected to include a slew of camera upgrades, such as a 48MP Wide camera, 8K video recording, and an improved Ultra Wide lens.

In addition to camera upgrades and a new design, the iPhone 14 will have improved performance and could feature 8GB of RAM on the highest-end models, the most ever in an iPhone. Other rumors have stated the iPhone 14 will not feature a SIM card slot as Apple pushes to increase adoption of eSIM technology, and it could come with as much as 2TB of storage.

The Pill and Dot cutout is hideous. Hopefully that’s not the actual design. Probably will be though, unfortunately.

Yep. You get to pay over a grand to advertise for apple. I want their branding (and thats all the notch or anything else is) off my d4mn screen.

I currently on the new M1 pro MacBook Pro 16 inch as well as an M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. Ironically I do not use an iPhone however. I am still using a galaxy note 20 ultra. I have thought about buying the iPhone 13 promax, however one of the big things distracting me is the lack of USB-C connection. I do not like the idea of a legacy lightning port with every other item that I own is using USB see which includes my earbuds my Kindle My drone,my iPad etc.

I am also not a huge fan of Face ID and the notch. Personally I really hope that they add the option of both touch ID and face ID. I would love the ability to grab the phone and as I’m picking it up be able to unlock it rather than having to hold it up to my face. I also feel like the notch is a lot of wasted screen real estate, compared to Samsung which has a tiny hole punch camera which is much less intrusive when viewing content or media on the device.

if Apple is able to make those two changes they may bring me back to the fold.

I would personally love for there to be a 2TB storage option this generation. Because if this ends up being the last iPhone with a port for wired charging & data transfer, it’ll also end up being the last iPhone I ever buy.

I always liked the thin phone with camera bump approach, since most people use cases and that approach keeps the phone/case combo thinner and more pocketable. A thicker phone plus a case seems like it would be a giant brick. Hope I’m wrong.

Obviously, but what about iPhone 8?

It's just not your upgrade window.

Agree totally. I’d love to switch phones too. But I hate taking cases of and on and wearing out the sim tray. I have an original SE but rarely use for that reason.

I wish they would go away with the glass back. It adds another unnecessary weight. My A52 from work is so light. Sometimes I almost drop it cuz I am used to lifting my 12 PM paperweight
Agree. Makes the phone too fragile. Plugging does not take much time or effort and is actually faster.
