This is great news. Can’t wait for the iPhone 14 leaks and materials to start flooding. The countdown is on. 👏
I'll be ready to move to the next iteration via iUP.
The annual debate, for me, ramps up to preorder day: Pro or Pro Max? I've yet to opt for the Max. And maybe with the addition of a mini 6 to my arsenal, I'll continue my smaller Pro config request. 👍
Fall is my fav time of year. 😁

I just wonder if they are finally using USB-C..

Along with that, will they ever implement ambient screen? Those are two things I miss on Android that are pretty great. Well that, and notifications on Android just being simply better in every way.

I'm trying to switch over with an iPhone 11 currently, but my Pixel 5 keeps reminding me of those couple of things that it offers. As for the Notifications, it might just be user error at this point. I just find the "Notification Center" being filled with old notifications that I have already swiped away in the day prior, and have no clue why it pops up again.

This will be a meaningful upgrade from the X. I am finally interested.

Assuming USB-C and a substantive improvement in the camera (even if the 48MPs are binned down, it’s still 4x raw pixels for the ISP to play with – to ‘retina-ize’ the optics per-se) – I will most likely bite with those two requirements alone.

The notch is still ugly, still old-fashioned, still visible when watching content, so the minification of non-usable screen area space is good and will modernize the look and feel to match that of modern Android counterparts.

Only controversial bit in this post: Whilst the 4 was a huge leap in industrial design, relative to the smartphone market at that time, those rounded metal volume buttons seemed a huge upgrade, but I’m not sure that would work today. Perhaps for nostalgia, but ultimately it seems like a regression in function due to the smaller hit area. I loved my 4 at the time though.

The only thing I’ll miss from my X is the curved edges which, whilst more expensive to manufacture, made it more premium feeling.

Also, I hope the increased thickness means much better battery life. When I moved to Android, I was worried that battery life would tank because, MaSsIve JAVA OvERheAd, but I was wrong, relative to my X, but then again, the X has a terrible battery historically, so I could be biased in that assumption.

– Sent from my Pixel 4a

Still can’t see a reason to upgrade from my launch day iPhone X. Battery life is the only issue but I’m managing.

You can buy iPhone X battery replacements for £25 on eBay. Replace the heat-gun with a hairdryer and you can have a new battery within the hour.

This means internally they are already designing iPhone 15, which will likely be my upgrade grade from my iPhone X.

Smart. 15 will be the XS.

I currently on the new M1 pro MacBook Pro 16 inch as well as an M1 iPad Pro 11 inch. Ironically I do not use an iPhone however. I am still using a galaxy note 20 ultra. I have thought about buying the iPhone 13 promax, however one of the big things distracting me is the lack of USB-C connection. I do not like the idea of a legacy lightning port with every other item that I own is using USB see which includes my earbuds my Kindle My drone,my iPad etc.

I am also not a huge fan of Face ID and the notch. Personally I really hope that they add the option of both touch ID and face ID. I would love the ability to grab the phone and as I’m picking it up be able to unlock it rather than having to hold it up to my face. I also feel like the notch is a lot of wasted screen real estate, compared to Samsung which has a tiny hole punch camera which is much less intrusive when viewing content or media on the device.

if Apple is able to make those two changes they may bring me back to the fold.
I agree with you on the USB-C for iPhone. It’s past the time when they should have made the switch, even if just for the Pro models. In regards to FaceID, it’s gotten so fast and able to scan at greater angles, that I can pick up my iPhone 12 PM off my desk and as I’m lifting it up to look at it, it’s already unlocked and even a partial swipe up of my thumb gets me to the Home Screen before I’ve even stopped moving the device to view it.

I’ve never really been bothered by the notch, but I’m not a huge video consumer or game player on it, so it’s rarely blocking content. The same will be true with the hole / pill punch cutouts, if they go with those. But I get that there are situations where it could be bothersome (as a first world ”problem”). I do like on my M1 iPad Pro 12.9 that the screen is uninterrupted, but that’s because it does get used for video consumption in both portrait and landscape, although I hate the fact that the camera is at the top of the device in portrait use, especially with so many Zoom / Teams / FaceTime calls happening today.

I have a 12 pro max and I don't plan on upgrading at all. I think this is my last apple iphone. I love their products, but they really need to change looks and design every now and then. I'll keep my 12 till it's dead

LOL, 8K video. Raise your hand if you have an 8K TV?

I don't think there exists an 8K TV less than the price of an entire house that you could see the benefits of 8K resolution on. It has to be so huge for there to be a perceivable difference if you're sitting on your couch 8-12ft away. I guess this is useful if you want to watch this on your 36" 8K computer display.

For me we're already at the point of archival footage. I don't think I'm going to look back on videos of my kids in 20 years and be sad that it's only in 4K like I would be if it was 480 or 720. Even 1080 is passable. 4K is great. I bet 8K is only available on the Pro iPhone which will be more likely to have 8GB of RAM, and I'll probably never use it. Hopefully it brings other benefits, though, such as being able to digitally zoom in more while recording video while retaining 4K resolution (although I recognize in certain lighting conditions this may lead to more noise). Would be a nice setting to have, however.

What I would rather have is even higher quality video. Better dynamic range, lower noise, improved sharpness and rack focusing. That's more useful to me than 8K. Fortunately we will probably get improvements in those areas as well, because Apple is always leading in video. Another nice improvement would be 4K slow motion. Don't see why the A14 couldn't handle that at 120fps as a minimum as 8K = 4x 4K so 8K30 as a baseline would be equivalent to 4K120 in terms of raw data throughput. And if it somehow does 8K60 then that's equivalent to 4K240. Would also be cool to get 1080p480/960 if the sensor can handle switching that fast.

I mean, I will be getting it regardless... But I also miss the curved edges and feel of my 11 Pro.

The 13 Pro looks great, but in the hand it just feels terrible in comparison. I assume Apple will go back to curves at some point, but sadly not soon enough.

So you would prefer plastic? Just having antenna bands doesn't seem to be sufficient for WiFi 6 or 5G.
I hate glass backs I really never use wireless charging, if Apple ever releases a se or any kid of iPhone with a dope metal design I'm getting that don't care if it's not a pro

The perfect iPhone for me is small size no face id, touch I'd under the display with a metal back and no notch , USB c and one camera 3 cameras idc

I would only buy one if it comes without a notch, otherwise I will keep rocking my Iphone XS for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully it folds. Because I ain't upgrading because of a reshaped speaker grille which no one will notice.

Someone should make a case that has the words “THIS IS THE NEW ONE” printed in large text right next to the camera. So that, even if they’re holding it up, people can clearly see the text. I think there’s a very large market of people who will buy a new phone MAINLY if it’s noticeable. :)

I'll buy one, if it comes without notch and with USB-C.
Agreeeeeddddd. Their watch type c already. If they still don't change it, people will still buy it. ? Im still waiting iphone5 design. Still got in on my table, charged but switched off.

Apple's largest supplier, Foxconn, has begun trial production of the iPhone 14 Pro, suggesting that Apple has finalized its design as it moves into the early stages of device manufacturing, according to a report from the Taiwan Economic Times.

According to the report, Foxconn will manufacture the higher-end models of the iPhone 14, while Luxshare, another Apple supplier, will take on the two lower-end models. The report notes that Foxconn will begin OEM trial production of the iPhone 14 Pro to ensure it can produce the device to Apple's standards in preparing for mass production later on in the year. From the report (machine translated):
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro could feature some design tweaks, invoking nostalgic design choices with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. iPhone 14 Pro Max renders shared by Apple leaker Jon Prosser suggest a thicker overall chassis and no camera bump. Those same renders suggest circular volume buttons and a redesigned speaker grille.

One of the most noticeable changes rumored to be coming to the iPhone 14 is the removal of the notch in favor of a pill-shaped cutout design. Multiple rumors have suggested that Apple will debut a single punch-hole and pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display to house the front-facing camera and TrueDepth camera system for Face ID.

The iPhone 14 lineup is expected to include four variants, including two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models. The updated iPhone lineup will mean the end of the 5.4-inch iPhone "mini," first launched with the iPhone 12. Alongside an updated design, the iPhone 14 is expected to include a slew of camera upgrades, such as a 48MP Wide camera, 8K video recording, and an improved Ultra Wide lens.

In addition to camera upgrades and a new design, the iPhone 14 will have improved performance and could feature 8GB of RAM on the highest-end models, the most ever in an iPhone. Other rumors have stated the iPhone 14 will not feature a SIM card slot as Apple pushes to increase adoption of eSIM technology, and it could come with as much as 2TB of storage.

I’d consider upgrading from my 13 Pro, only if the weight of Pro is noticeably lighter this time around. That’s about it.
