Love the always on on my Apple Watch 7 but maybe not so much for the iPhone because it’s in my pocket during non use. I intent to turn off that feature most of time and I’m just wondering how much battery life will I really save?
I'm like you- the Apple Watch allows me to keep my phone away because I can check the time and notifications on my wrist. If I didn't have a Watch, then I'd probably want AOD on my phone though. I, too, am curious to see how much extra battery life we'll get if we don't use AOD. If they really had to increase the battery size to accommodate it, I would assume that it must be a noticeable drain.

This! I don't (and will not) wear any watch, so AOD or other form of missed notification system (like LED diode) is essential for me.

I totally see why Apple watch users don't get the point of AOD, but we who don't wear any smart watch welcome this very useful feature so much.

Seems odd that there’s so much “no” regarding the Apple Watch’s AOD. It’s pretty handy to just glance down and see the time. Or the temperature. Or about how much time is left on a timer. If you don’t want it, you can turn it off
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would assume that the iPhone would also have an on/off option for the AOD, too. It might even be possible to setup automation with different Focus/Home Screens so that one Home Screen DOES show the AOD but then switches to another that doesn’t based on location (not being at said location).

According to one rumor, the iPhone 14 Pro had a battery size increase, but not the 14 Pro Max; so perhaps (hopefully) the drain is not that much.

However, I also mostly use my watch to get needed info at a glance, so not sure how much I'll use this. It is nice to have, though.

Agreed. Some people are opposing it, but I don't see why anyone has a problem with making it an optional feature.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you ever want to wear a watch? I never wore one before the Apple Watch, but now I feel naked without it, and it's usually the only thing I have on even when I am naked lol. It's just so useful for so many different things.

I'm not saying everybody will use it, but I think a fair number of people who have never had AOD will be pleasantly surprised by its usefulness. And I don't think not liking it on your watch is the same, as it provides a different purpose (e.g., looking at notifications/time while your phone is sitting on your desk). Either way, the great thing is if you don't want to use it..........don't.

Longer battery life is great, but sheesh, these phones are getting heavy!

The 11Pro is probably the last and only Pro I buy, until weight gets under control. I see titanium in the future.

Drop the corner of a 13 or 14 pro on your foot and your foot could break.
I hear ya. I've had my 11 pro for 2 years and it still surprises me how heavy it is.

I like my hands free. I don't wear any wristbands or anything alike. Yes, it is something you can get used to, but added value is just not there for me. I'm not so much into sports, there's clock almost everywhere around me (sitting in front of computer most of the day), I'm trying to disconnect from the internet (and other distractions) as much as possible, so instant notifications on my wrist is not something I would appreciate either and to use it for apple pay few times a week it simply just not justify the added hassle with charging and wearing it every day (not talking about price).

I totally see the value when someone do some sports daily or when someone needs instant notifications everywhere they go. The usecase and added value is not there for me though. If I wanted something on my wrist, it would be for style. So it would be some expensive Swiss watch, not something common like Apple Watch.

How is a heavier phone a selling point? 90% of people put a case on their phone, just make these phones out of lightweight plastic.

I certainly hope that it's optional. A screen permanently switched on and emitting light would be incredibly intrusive, anywhere one doesn't want one's phone to attract attention - which is basically everywhere.
At night it would be especially intrusive if there's no way to switch it off when trying to sleep.

I'm sure it can be switched off- Apple isn't that stupid.
