A hardware technician has come up with an iPhone 14 Pro Max modification to add a display that curves at the edges like a Samsung Galaxy device.

Twitter user @lipilipsi, a self-proclaimed iPhone hardware technician who specializes in aftermarket Apple device modifications, showed off their latest project with several images and a brief video. The modification involves swapping out the iPhone's stainless steel frame and adding a new display, but all of the device's other components remain the same.

The curved display is particularly reminiscent of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, which have had displays that curve on the left and right horizontal side edges since the launch of the Galaxy Note Edge in 2014.

@lipilipsi has undertaken several other inventive iPhone modifications, including adding a rear display using an Apple Watch, switching an iPhone 13's Lightning port to USB-C, and moving an entire device to a transparent casing to see the internal components.

I stand by my assumption that the reason the Samsung Galaxy have those godawful rounded corners is a complete misunderstanding of a leak of the curved top-surface glass that the iPhone 6 had. The intent was to pip Apple to market with a curved-glass screen. It looks awful and I’ve never heard of anyone who considers it a good feature.

That is so pointless and will end up making the phone uglier. I have already seen Phone Repair Guru's iPhone XR to iPhone 13 Transformation kit.

Quite the mod, it looks fantastic (from a completing it point of view), what a piece of craftsmenship - that said, would never want a phone with a curved display though.

Have had a couple of Android phones with curved screens as work phones and they are terrible to use with the curve screen getting triggered easily and keeping the case sides down leading to easier damage. The curved display is definitely one of those examples of the Android world where whatever the latest thing is, if its percieved as desirable at market launch, it becomes something the other mfrs have to have whether its good or bad (the tail wagging the dog).
