I have an issue with my new iPhone 14 Pro: Alarms don't sound from the iPhone's internal speaker when the phone's connected to bluetooth headphones. This never happened on previous iPhones: and Apple confirm that alarm sound should come from the phone itself, as well as any connected headphones, do ensure the alarm isn't missed.

My Amazon package that should’ve contained my 14 PM but had this inside

Gave my gf my 13 pro max & traded her 11 for the 14 pro max.

IMO the screen is much better on the 14 pro, especially outside. The screen is extremely bright outside. I’d have trouble seeing the screen outside sometimes on the 13 pro.

Dynamic island is not at all a gimmick
Agreed. Is the feature transformative? That's a matter of opinion. The feature is first generation and app development will increase its utility. Let's see if the Galaxy S23 Ultra adopts the feature which by next year, Apple may allow split-screen multi-tasking feature through the pill cutout which will be with us for three years at least. It will probably get smaller and be closer to the ear speaker grill. As a former Samsung owner, I used to have a low opinion of how slow Apple is to implement features that Samsung introduced years ago. Apple first generation implementation is far less glitchy and is more optimized and resource efficient.

>Pill cut out sits lower than the notch and is noticeable when you look at the screen / watch videos. Will take some getting used to

Does it get in the way? When you watch a landscape video, does the OS keep the video from overlapping the pill? How about when viewing photos in the Photos app?

I don't think I'll mind the pill much as long as it doesn't cover content.

And another question: Can you use the phone, in a case, on a table without it rocking back and forth? I notice pretty much all cases have a camera lip now due to the depth of the camera module.

iPhone 14 Pro first impressions coming from a 13 Pro... it was an unnecessary upgrade for me. Screen looks amazing coming from the 13 Pro. Sharper, and brighter. Not as wowed by the “dynamic island” but that could be that not many apps take advantage of it yet. Camera of course is great, but how much greater than the 13 Pro… I don’t know yet. Performance feels the same.

The always on display is a welcome addition, and well executed… but how this was not possible with just a software update on older phones… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless you have to have the best iPhone with the best camera, stick with your iPhone 11. Anyone with an older phone will really appreciate what the new iPhone has to offer. If you have the 13 Pro… you can wait for the 15 and not miss out on much 👍🏼

Let’s be real, phones have gotten so good that there are less and less reasons to upgrade every year. But I still do because it’s tradition since the first iPhone 😝

This has been the case now. I've always kept my phones at least two years, sometimes three. The upgrade experience is a lot more enjoyable when you're coming from a much older phone!

Right. If they didn’t detach it and place it lower then it would be a notch again. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The focus isn’t what the cut out is. It’s the functionality behind it. You are making conversation about it like it’s just an obstruction and nothing else. You’re separating the hardware and software when it is an integration. And if you’re not doing that then what’s your point?
I’m not the user you’re responding to, but: We could have the same DI functionality without the display cutout. (Or even a better functionality, because it wouldn’t need to compromise due to the location of the sensors.) Meaning, the functionality as such doesn’t require there to be a cutout. And that functionality doesn’t prevent the cutout from being an obstruction for fullscreen content, and from placing restrictions on how the display can be used. While the DI is a smart way to integrate the obstruction into the UI in certain contexts, it’s still just a compromise to accommodate a necessary(?) evil.

Not me…I’m a fan of the Dynamic Island. My argument was that we’re actually gaining additional screen real estate having the Island instead of having the Notch (see my earlier comment with the graphic). The comment quoted was in response to someone else’s reply that the Dynamic Island was taller, which it very minimally is.

Wondered if anyone else has noticed this on 14P? When using browser, black space (including DI) at top of screen seems bigger/more distracting, to the point it reminds me of pre-notch iPhone screens, yet I realize it is very close, if not the exact same, screen real estate as my 13P when I hold them side by side. Just seems weird/an optical illusion.🤷🏼‍♀️. After all this time hating on the notch, I think I prefer it to the island, esp when browsing or watching videos.

Also one plus for me is screen is brighter in direct sunlight.

I have the space black and purple phones here, side-by-side, and I just need to say that those of you saying that deep purple is mostly gray are insane. Or colorblind or something 😂.

It is purple through and through. The side bands are even a relatively light hue of purple, bordering on violet or pink.

For me, black is definitely the way to go this year. But if you like purple, you will be happy with the purple pro.

I have the Deep Purple and depending on the angle, the back is gray. The sides and camera lens portions are purple for sure, though.

You can maybe find an angle where it looks closer to gray, but it’s a far cry from what people were describing, which was that it’s mostly gray, and only sometimes purple in certain angles. From my eyes, that is really untrue.

I am very satisfied with the 14 pro max ( silver is awesome). I am doubting on if I will upgrade next year. The camera, dynamic island, screen, refresh rate, the form factor and the better battery are great.

As of now, the only major features I would want in an iPhone are USB-C, Touch ID under the screen, and maybe 8K video.

But even then I am very content with this phone and wouldn’t mind holding on to it until the iPhone 17 launches in like 2025.
why would you want 8K video when there aren't many TVs, Monitors, or even iPhones displays that would be able to view the content in all its glory? 8K would be a gimmick move that Samsung has pulled and it's still not a nice selling point.
