I haven’t had it change that dramatically. Here is something from the Apple page on display settings you could try:

You can turn auto-brightness on or off in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. To reset the auto-brightness settings, turn off auto-brightness and then turn it back on.

I am having the exact same issue, I’ve been messing with brightness settings non stop looking for a fix. No luck. Kind of a bummer, my 13 pro max operated flawlessly.

i have had my old 13 PM exhibit this if I have the brightness turned too far down. When I woke it, it would wake at the lowest setting. Try turning your brightness up a little and see if that stops it.

That’s the thing, I keep my brightness almost maxed out. This only happens when I charge at night. When I go to bed it’s fine, when I wake up brightness is at zero. I’m thinking it has to do with the always on display timing out then brightness not correcting once the phone is woken in the morning.

Probably something to do with how Apple turns off the AOD when you’ve been away from your phone a while. I don’t use AOD or auto brightness and my pro max is always at the same brightness I set it to.

Thank you; AOD (Always On Display) also goes off under other circumstances, such as when you put the phone face down or in your pocket. Still, I've tried turning it on and off and am updating to the new iOS 16.0.2. If that doesn't work tomorrow morning, turning AOD off and testing tomorrow night is my next troubleshooting step!

Same issue here with brightness.

AOD also turns off in sleep focus which I have set to turn on every night. Might be a bug there when sleep mode turns off and returns to my default focus (per my settings) and the brightness doesn’t recover.

Every morning when I pull my iPhone 14 Pro Max off the charger, the display brightness is at zero. I have to manually go in and slide it back up. Anyone else experiencing this? I do have Always on Display turned on, but don't know if that matters. Thanks!
I thought I was the only one with this exact issue as I had not been able to find about this problem on internet!!! So glad I find more people with the issue.

I tried contacting Apple about it and the guy that tried to help me, said it was indeed something that that to do with the AOD. I could avoid it by turning it off. So I did and the following morning my Home Screen was as I always have it (about 50% bright) and the next morning with AOD on and the next morning was at 0% level.

The third night with AOD on, I took the phone off the charger a few minutes it was fully charged and the next morning it was at 50%! I’m guessing the clue is to. It let your phone on the charger the whole night so it won’t have time to go down to 0%. Which is nuts since nobody will be awake that long if you charge it overnight.

They should come up with a solution for this. I know it’s. I big deal to set the brightness bar up but still, it should work flawless. Right?

I’m having the same exact issue!!!16.0.2 did not fix it either.

Same issue for me. iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB. Screen brightness goes to 0 during the night. Moving the brightness slider brings it back to the level I had it before putting it to charge overnight.

I originally wrote a wrong description of what was happening with the Auto-Brightness on my 14 MP. The brightness in dark settings is too low (almost down to zero) and I have to make it brighter manually. Then in the morning the brightness is too high and I have to manually bring it back down.

Never had any issues with this on my 13 Pro.
