Apple earlier this month acknowledged that customers faced longer wait times for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models because of reduced supply chain capacity, but the delays appear to have gotten worse.

On Apple's online store in the United States, the devices' estimated shipping times are currently hovering around the six-week mark, with deliveries for all iPhone 14 Pro models now only available from December 27, already putting them out of reach of many would-be gift-buying customers before Christmas Day.

The delays corroborate analyst expectations that Apple's iPhone 14 Pro models will fall short of earlier shipment estimates for the year, following lockdowns at the main Foxconn factory in China where the devices are assembled.

Foxconn is now expected to ship 79 million units in the current quarter, down from the previous 85 million handsets estimate, due to the stringent COVID-19 restrictions imposed on the factory in Zhengzhou in recent weeks, according to investment firm Morgan Stanley (via Bloomberg).

"The wait time for 14 Pro/Pro Max has extended to four to five weeks as of late versus two to four weeks a month ago, implying demand stays healthy, even with supply gap," wrote the analysts in a note.

Looking ahead, Morgan Stanley predicts higher-than-usual output in the first few months of 2023 to make up for unfilled demand. Meanwhile, operations at the Zhengzhou facility have already resumed, with workers having been ferried to the plant over the weekend as Foxconn seeks to make up for lost ground.

The delivery estimates are usually on conservative side though, I think it's for a hype fest / so they can point to it if they don't meet the window but...

I would just hawk eye store inventory if you wanted one

Also- are they really still hard to get the 14 pro and pro max? not up to speed on the general situation

Yeah this isn't a news story. I don't know anyone who would spend over £1000 on a Christmas present for one person and some of the people I know could be considered financially comfortable.

There will be a lot of people choosing between putting food on the table and putting the heating on this winter so a flagship smartphone being backorder is not important.

Ordered 14 Pro Max 1 TB through AT&T on up reorder arrived last Friday without any problems .

There are far more enjoyable things you can do on Christmas night with 190,000 yen in Tokyo, trust me. ;-)

I got mine a few days after release. It was barely better than my iPhone 11 Pro Max and costs 70% more here in Japan at the same capacity levels as the three year old phone I already own. Needless to say it went back after the month free trial was up...

Currently waiting to see if the 15 is any better. Totally underwhelmed by the 14. Except the purple rear glass colour which was gorgeous... (Although the purple shiny steel surrounding bezel looked and felt like cheap Chinese plastic after picking up 30 seconds worth of fingerprints.)

I'm sure it won't, but I really hope the 15 also comes in purple. The colour really was fantastic. But paying the equivalent of what would have been $1600 in March before the Yen tanked is just not worth it for a largely cosmetic upgrade.

Weird comments about "sympathy" aside, I think many people are missing the point. Apple's iPhone is one of the most successful (volume x margin) products in history with over a decade of investments in vendors, logistics, diversification, etc...and Apple is having supply chain troubles.

I went to Disney several months ago and discovered that they were out of things...like various options for making your own robot or lightsaber. These are products with 70-80%+ profit margins, from companies with virtually unlimited resources and clout to EXPEDITE their orders...and they are having trouble managing global supply chains.

Imagine how other lower-margin industries are faring.

Apparantly the supply chain issues in China and its zero covid policy are quite real (where the whole factory town is shut down if covid infections in the area are detected, which worked early on but now the current Covid strains are much more transmissible). Definitely not what Apple wants with its highest profit iPhone models.

Would seriously bet the prices rise significantly on the 15 Pro's (and Ultra if rebranded) next year with the base 15 kept at its current price, but we'll see.

Yes, China still has their zero covid policy where they lock everyone in their houses in the town if someone is found to have Covid, which worked early on, but the latest variants of the virus are much more transmissible that before and the policy isn't working (but the leader said to use this before...) so some of Apple's factories are literally sitting shut down for extended periods of time not producing anything.

Not much better this side of the pond in the UK. I’m going to pop one on order but also keep an eye on in store inventories if possible. Current date is 22 or 23rd dec.
In my case it’s a Christmas present but one that’s known. My daughter has my launch day 8+ and we agreed she’d keep that til this model as it’s the last one I’m buying for her. My fault to trying to hold off waiting for them to appear on the student discount site, but also John Lewis have told me they have no ETA on arrival (despite their website claiming some stores have 1 in).
