Well, here in the U.S. there are TV advertisements for $70,000.00 pickup trucks as Christmas gifts. There’s even one where the husband buys TWO of them and the wife gets to pick the color she wants. Just saying.
It's TV. On TV, a shoe salesman can live in a two story home and feed a family of 4. Also on TV, a furry alien can live with a suburban family and chase their cat.

It does not have a Dynamic Island + no 48 MP camera :(
Dynamic Island is a software gimmick to hide the fact the phone still has an obnoxious notch. It's the TouchBar of the iPhone. I refuse to write software for it because it will be going away sooner than you think. Definitely not worth spending more money for it.

Not much better this side of the pond in the UK. I’m going to pop one on order but also keep an eye on in store inventories if possible. Current date is 22 or 23rd dec.
In my case it’s a Christmas present but one that’s known. My daughter has my launch day 8+ and we agreed she’d keep that til this model as it’s the last one I’m buying for her. My fault to trying to hold off waiting for them to appear on the student discount site, but also John Lewis have told me they have no ETA on arrival (despite their website claiming some stores have 1 in).

My daughter is also using my old 8+. :) I think she'll get a 14 plus next year if the get a discounted price next september.

Not sure what world you live in where $1,000 is “rich”
Well, if you go by the data, then spending $1000 on a gift is about 10x more than the rule of thumb.

Data from the National Retail Federation (NRF) found that in 2020 the average American planned to spend $650 on gifts for family members, friends and coworkers. Other data from 2020 showed that the average consumer spent $850 on gifts.

While the right amount to spend will differ based on your income, cultural norms and other factors, a basic rule of thumb is to spend between $50 and $100 on a gift for a family member and between $20 and $50 for a friend. Buying a gift for a coworker, like an assistant or a boss, usually runs between $20 and $50.

$1,000 is also the average amount someone spends on all Christmas gifts.

If she likes the size and weight and feel of the 8+ she’ll LOVE the 14 plus.. in the hand it feels very confortable and pocketable, with of course the larger screen. And oddly, the 14 plus FEELS lighter due to the same weight being distributed across the same area slightly differently. It’s the perfect upgrade for one who might not NEED 120hz, Fantasy Island or 48 MP images.

Is that $650-$850 per person or all. That might be for everyone for us; maybe even lower anymore. When the economy was good we maybe have hit $1K+ total

There aren't available the new ipad pros in Mexico LOL and the Buen Fin (Black Friday equivalente here) starts this Friday. Good luck with sales...;)

I think a new iPhone is only worth to get it in the first 3 months after release.
Once the new year rolls around, it kinda is better to wait for the next model.

The delivery estimates are usually on conservative side though, I think it's for a hype fest / so they can point to it if they don't meet the window but...

I would just hawk eye store inventory if you wanted one

Also- are they really still hard to get the 14 pro and pro max? not up to speed on the general situation
With the lockdown in place in China, the dates keeps on moving~ May not even get it till January~

I don't have much sympathy for someone rich enough to gift a $1000-1200 premium phone not being able to get that phone in time for Christmas. There are people with real problems. This isn't one of them.

And no sympathy for the people who are rich enough to buy the premium phone just for themself…just in case someone was looking for it. 🙄

Christmas is a great time to be Jewish. 💪

I am predicting it now 😀 People with new iphones over Christmas and damage it will be coming into this forum and making threads complaining about how long it is going to take to get the iphone fixed due to lack of available spare parts and their post will end with 'Is anyone else having the same issue?' 😂

That's lame. I am glad I ordered mine not too far from the release date. Hopefully for those looking can find a surprise one in physical stores.

They will get it anyhow. Those richies are the reason iPhones for 2-3x retail are on auction sites. And McD Adult Happy Meal figures for $10k

I wouldn't call it the "Touch Bar of the iPhone". The Touch Bar was arguably worse because it removed some people's preference of physical function keys. A lot had developed the muscle and tactile memory for those keys and the Touch Bar made it more difficult and inconvenient. Dynamic Island is not particularly useful now since there isn't a lot of support for Live Activities yet. Apparently you "refuse" to add it, but will your app even need to support Live Activities?. It definitely looks nicer than the completely wasted space of the previous notches, and it doesn't remove any convenience or functionality.

To be honest, I wouldn’t even bother buying my mother, an iPad let alone an iPhone, she wants one she gets one. The world is in a right state financially people are scrambling for food. I’d rather gift somebody a hamper or make sure they have money for our crazy gas (not petrol) and electricity prices who needs it by putting money into their electricity or gas account than buy a bit stainless steel and glass at over £1000 apiece, that’s just crazy even if you are that well off. Then there’s a thing called gift guilt where people feel like they need to give you something back of equal value and they haven’t got enough spare money or they’re not as well off as you and that puts him in a really bad situation financially. With the way the world is this year especially lots of people are agreeing not to gift each other things unless they’re very close family. I think that makes sense. I wish people to do it more often. If I want something I’ll get it myself. I don’t expect of people to put themselves in a bad situation. Let alone buying me a pro iPhone so this article is just to far out there for me to take seriously, or have any pity for the people who have left it too late To do so.
