Yup phablets in the making. I'm glad to switch down to 13 mini
I have a Pixel 5 and it's the same size as an iPhone 8. It has a 6-inch screen. I set the viewport to 432px (2.5x pixel ratio). That's like having a Max screen resolution (428px) in the palm of your hand.

Since the news of the Mini disappearing from regular releases, I’ve been contemplating upgrading from my regular 12 to 13 Mini. These phones are becoming pretty heavy and big, they should at least address the weight IMO.
I'm still on a Sony XZ1 Compact. The phone's screen is only 4.6" large but man oh man, does it easily slip into ALL of my pants front pocket with ease and without looking like an idiot having something stuffed so large in there as if to compensate or distract from something else.

I bought myself a Samsung Galaxy S10e as a replacement, but haven't even opened it yet since I'm far too used to my Sony. I don't wanna part with it; it does so many things right, like TWO front facing speakers, dedicate shutter release button for photos, power button also acts as fingerprint reader, etc. Amazing how Sony did all these things in such a small package while including a headphone jack and here's Apple desperately trying to make phones as big as possible.

y'all must do a lot of stuff with your phone I don't do

I call, text, listen to audio, plug into CarPlay, pay with Apple Pay

Just about nothing I do is made better by the screen (and device) continuing to get bigger and bigger.
In fact, quite the opposite -- these "bricks" are a huge PITA for portability and pocketability.

Maybe it’s due to the slightly slimmer bezel? So its actual physical size will not change
That's the correct answer. But the corners of the phone will change, as well as the camera bump, so iPhone 13 Pro won't fit the 14 Pro cases.

LOL, ridiculous. Soon enough everyone's gonna need a cargo pants to fit these monstrous sized phones. The hell is the point of such a huge phone?
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is rumoured to be slightly narrower than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the same length. The main difference is the 14 Pro Max will be a bit thicker, especially at the camera bump (due to a much bigger sensor).

The iPhone 14 Pro is rumoured to be the same length and width as the iPhone 13 Pro, but again the 14 Pro will be thicker with bigger camera bump.

I would think the Mini will be kept around as an SE model. But the reality is that not enough people care for small phones anymore.

I actually believe Apple always had a sweet spot for small phones. Think of how the iPhone 5 and 5S were already considered small when bigger was becoming mainstream. Now the 12 and 13 Mini are proof they still appreciate this form factor.

I don't think Apple had any specific fondness for that size. I suspect they wanted to increase their share of the market, but the mini didn't really work to do that so they'll just cancel it. Not sure if they'll do that right away or not after the 14 is launched, but it's likely they will relatively soon. I'd be quite surprised if there is a 14 mini. I wouldn't expect that at all. At best, they'll keep the 13 mini around for a while and then kill it later.

The different in screen size is NOT due to pill instead of notch (that is just bringing some pixels back) the different screen size here is just due to thinner bezels

Like what happened in the last 4 years?

Who decided we want these monster devices in our pockets?
The market decided…this isn’t new to anyone paying attention. The phone has become most user’s most used and most available computing device. The average consumer wants these devices to have the largest practical screen, not a tiny screen device that a small group of users want who don’t have the same use case as the majority of users. How the minority uses their devices is just not the mainstream any more given how pervasive the use is of mobile phone devices in every aspect of our lives. Apple and other manufacturers figured this out a long time ago, that’s just the way it is. This is how we got to this point. Tiny phones are simply too small a niche to sustain beyond a few models. That’s the reality.

Yes, a lot of people do a lot more with their mobile that you don’t do. The smallest
possible size for me that is usable to me is my iPhone XR. My next iPhone will be either an iPhone 14 Max or possibly a 15. Time to size up again.

Exactly. I use my 12PM the majority of the time for browsing, buying and for GPS since my car does not have CarPlay.

I tried the 6.1 but it’s too small for my usage.

Big phone is nice when you’re doing Uber/Lyft with a phone mount on the top of the dash. I’m gonna get the Max size next time.

Why not just get an iPad? Phones are for use on the go.

Probably just decreasing the bezel size to the same as the iPhone mini?

Well that's a shame. And unless they switch to titanium chassis the weight will also increase if this is true, people already hate holding the Max up for long periods to film something etc cause if it's weight. Seems pointless to me.

I think that the presence of the pill and that it sits a little lower from the top of the screen caused them to reduce the bezels to enlarge the screen to compensate for the pill position resulting in the same size screen below the pill as was below the notch.

Currently rocking a regular 12 Pro. Wanting to go Max for the very first time for extra battery and screen so extra screen size is welcome to me.
