I think that the presence of the pill and that is sits a little lower from the top of the screen caused them to reduce the bezels to enlarge the screen to compensate for the pill position.
I think they were going to reduce the bezel size regardless, but the added bonus for them is that it makes it easier to implement the pill that way.

Could be. hard to know which is cart and which is horse from the outside. I think that they did know that they would catch a lot of grief from users and reviewers if the pill resulted in less available screen space.

It's legit ridiculous that next year the smallest screen you can get is over 6 inches
Not to the 97-99% of people who buy phones and use them in a wider capacity than the tiny minority wanting tiny phones. The number speak for themselves and while it may be a disappointment for small phone fans, the market has spoken.

In every iPhone mini thread we’re reminded/scolded that “everyone” wants bigger phones so I’m disappointed they didn’t go with a 6.5” for the standard model and 7” for the max.
Straw horse. There is a practical physical size that is the limiting factor just as there would be going down in size. Let’s not try to sarcastic you’re way out of it.

I’ve upgraded yearly but with the notch going I reckon iPhone 14 Pro Max will be my last upgrade for a couple of years

I am soooo glad the notch has been banished to the afterlife on the iPhone that is; about “effing” time .Not so sure about the next iPad Pro though:rolleyes:, ? please don’t !

If you are worried about a notch on the iPad Pro, I think that is unlikely. The reason it was added to the iPhone was so that they could reduce the bezels and increase the screen size. The iPads are less size constrained. The bezels on an iPad are there partly to give a place to grasp it, something you don’t need in a one-handed phone. There is less need to reduce the size of the iPad case as it is less of a mobile and pocketable device than the phone. Apple is not in the business of selling notches, the notch is a compromise to maximize screen without making the case too large while still providing the camera, FaceID and other sensors. As we can see with the upcoming pill, Apple wants to reduce the size of the notch and likely wants to get rid of it as soon as they can create those components that can sit behind the screen.

Apple still sell the 12 mini as new, so I hope they will continue to sell the 13 mini as new next year. And why not make it the next SE in 2024 (I mean, it is too small for the bigger future camera modules to fit, so why not use it as en entry device) ?

I'd actually like a phone with the width of the Pro Max and length of the Pro, or even wider again. Tried a Max in my jeans pocket, and it's just too long to sit down comfortably with it in your pocket. And comparing the sizes, most of the extra is in height, not width, so doesn't actually make much useful difference when reading content. I'd love the biggest phone possible that can fit in my pocket comfortably.

I liked the iPhone X to 11 Pro size and design the best. These phones are getting thicker and heaver since then and i am not a fan. Pretty sure it is because of how most people use their phones for everything and not have different devices for different needs. A Mini with telephoto, promotion, and 6/8 gb Ram would be sweet

Just big enough to make sure old cases don’t fit.
The camera island is much bigger due to the updated sensor. The old cases wouldn’t fit regardless.

BTW, the length and width aren’t actually bigger, despite the slightly larger screen, because the bezel size is smaller. However, it’s thicker (with as mentioned, bigger camera island).

While I’m all for slimmer bezels, I really do hope Apple moves to making these phones lighter again. The 13 Pro Max is a heavy boy.
