The iPhone 14 is looking so sexy, at least the design that is expected. Much better than the rushed iPhone 12 design
rushed design lol.

You do realize the sides of these 14 renders/leaks are the exact same as the 12-13 models right?

rushed design; you say that honestly when leaks have followed same timeline as most any other iphones with months prior to launch and nothing changed in their design since the first real leaks. interesting how you see that as rushed design.

Doesn’t really matter imho. Notch, hole punch, pill shape, *insert camera cutout design here*, they all sort of disappear after a brief period with a new phone.

Hah, I have one of those too! What's funny is the last time I used it was Apple-related! I had to punch a second notch into a few 5.25" floppy disks to un-write-protect the reverse side on my Apple II when in one of my retro-computing phases a few years ago.
I recall that era ... yet I think the punch-cut-out was to enable write protect on 1 side of the 5.25" floppy. Tape over the cut-out enable writing or double-sided I cannot recall ( I was 8-12 during 5.25" and on Apple IIe in school).

Welcome to the hole punch era :)

What about the pill shape? 💊

2022 is looking amazing!

Not a fan ... still has wasted space in the same area-width above the pill-punch, causing the user to focus more on the pill vs the screen with a white background. if that size of the pill can be moved to replace the current notch at the top ... THAT would be fantastic.

We don't really know the details of the design of either the phone or the punch hole. As always, these renders are done by artists hired by the journalists to illustrate a rumor and should not be taken as an official design.

If they do a punch hole, it would probably sit within the space currently occupied by the notch. The same safe area rules where apps don't use that area unless they make special provisions would apply. It would probably be a similar height to the current notch but significantly more narrow. Its unclear if they would make the punch a free-floating hole or if they would extend an isthmus to tie it to the border

Give me a thicker phone to make the back flat(bigger battery too?) and ANYTHING to make that notch disappear.

I don't care about the shape-- the front camera is due for a major overhaul so it's as good as the rear camera. Until then, I'll hold off buying a new iPhone. In the meantime, my iPhone X is good as new with a new battery.

I was gonna buy a 13 Pro to replace my 6S but I guess I’ll wait until next year… again.

Front page picture looks like iPhone 4…probably my favourite iPhone. The main development I would like to see is Touch ID on the display

Hahahaha no it’s not. A home button changed the whole navigation. This gives marginally more screen area. Great improvement as the notch is ugly, but not even close to a home bottom removal.
they’re actually very similar.
removing home button didn’t add any features ,only different way to do same functions + better aesthetics and more space.very similar to outcome of change from noth to punch hole.

That pill cutout would be the most logical design to feature a new, miniaturized version of the current FaceID component. Another option would be to integrate this same new miniaturized version of FaceID into the top bezel of the iPhone 14 Pro, eliminating any “distraction” from the display.

This is underwhelming. I've expected more from Apple. Hole punch design is nothing new and apple should go straight for under-display tech.

They had to do something to make it "different" than the 12.
Just seems weird, as I don't think *anyone* would even realise unless looking side by side. Visually they're almost identical.

Something like a hole punch or other ways of handling it are visually distinct from the notch style.

Guess we'll see what happens with the 14!

The high-end iPhone 14 Pro models launching in 2022 are expected to have a hole-punch display, according to Korean website The Elec. The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to feature the upgraded display, which will do away with the notch used in the current iPhone models.

The hole-punch cutout will allow Apple to provide a larger display area while still leaving room for the front-facing camera, and it is a design that Android devices have used for a few years now. If Apple does transition to this design, the Face ID hardware will need to be moved under the display.

Two additional non-Pro iPhones, which will measure in at 6.1 and 6.7 inches, will continue to have a notch, with Apple limiting the hole-punch design to the more expensive iPhones. Apple is doing away with the 5.4-inch "iPhone mini" in 2022, and is instead going to offer a four iPhone lineup in 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes.

The Elec says that Apple will also be sourcing LTPO OLED displays for the iPhone 14 Pro models to allow for 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates, technology already used in the iPhone 13 Pro models this year. Samsung supplied the OLED panels that Apple used for the iPhone 13 Pro models, but Apple could source some displays from LG Display in 2022.

A hole-punch display has been rumored several times before, and notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said repeatedly that some iPhone 14 Pro models are likely to feature the technology.

Let’s wait for iPhone 15 then, hole punch on every edition.

i remember when apple used to never play catch up in terms of hardware anyway to its competitors
Apple always chooses to be better, rather than first.

FWIW I still don't believe this hole punch rumor. Apple likes their products to be instantly recognizable, this design is just like any Android. It also wouldn't make sense for them to have resized the notch on the 13 if they planned to dump it on the 14. Not to mention, embracing the notch on the MacBook Pros only to ditch it on the iPhone. For a myriad of reasons, I think this hole punch rumor remains hogwash.

So your OnePlus battery lasts for 3 days?

The 13 mini has the same battery life as last years iPhone 12 and that was considered to be good. The mini has better battery life than the iPhone SE or the earlier iPhone 8. Sure, it’s not as good as the fa… bigger phones but that’s fine. Most days I still have 50% charge by end of day.
I cannot get through the day on a single charge.

By comparison my three year old OnePlus 6T lasts about two days.

I like the phone but I need to bring a MagSafe battery to ensure I can use it without it dying before I get home.

They could've done it all along, but chose not to. And IMO will continue to choose not to.
Could have done it how? By going back to bezels? How do you think that would go over?

There are a lot of components in that notch and it would take some serious miniturization and efforts to get them to work from under the screen to get rid of the notch.
