8K screens are not a thing at all. Comparing TVs with phone or Tablets is also a horrible comparison
8K is totally a thing and that's exactly how you sound to me. It's impossible to use such inferior technology when we have 120Hz screens.

No they aren’t a thing at all. They are simply not main stream at all. If they were 8k video on devices like the S21 ultra would be a far bigger deal than they currently are. 8K TVs aren’t everywhere thats the difference. 120hz has been on the market for the past 4 years.

you are also using a bad example of a TV which you sit there and watch with a high refresh rate which you scroll the UI for a far smoother experience. Completely different to a slightly better quailty viewing on as TV watching a film.

Sounds to me that you are getting upset that i called all 60hz displays as outdated technology. Guessing because thats what you use. No need to get defensive about something like that. If you are happy with 60hz good for you but i certainly Am not. Higher refresh rate makes using a phone or tablet a far more enjoyable experience certainly in day to day usage.

If you're going to move the camera notch off of the display's edge with screen real-estate in between the notch and screen edge, you may as well put it in the center.

That (bold/underlined) is what doesn't make sense. That's like saying, "if you're going to key my car on the bottom of the rear fender, you may as well key it on the hood instead." Obviously if you have to choose, you're going to choose less conspicuous over more conspicuous. A "hole punch" near the top edge of the screen is FAR less conspicuous and intrusive as one in the center of the screen. Seems painfully obvious.

I was in an Apple store a few days ago and the staff told me the 13 Mini is not selling well at all.

I bought one... and wow, the battery is garbage. My 3 year old OnePlus 6T has about three times better battery.
So your OnePlus battery lasts for 3 days?

The 13 mini has the same battery life as last years iPhone 12 and that was considered to be good. The mini has better battery life than the iPhone SE or the earlier iPhone 8. Sure, it’s not as good as the fa… bigger phones but that’s fine. Most days I still have 50% charge by end of day.

I'm just saying you sound like a snob that's too cool for 60Hz.

Also, 60Hz isn't outdated as most displays are still 60 (not just talking about mobile devices).

I don't really care what you want to spend your money on and what features you value most. You just sounded like you're too cool for old outdated 60Hz.

Also, I'm no stranger to high refresh rates. I had a 144Hz monitor for 3 years. Scrolling on it was nice, but I'm not too cool to use anything or buy anything that is lower than that.

As i said it’s not about being too cool for 60hz. I couldn’t use 60hz again due to experiencing 120hz being far superior. People can and will enjoy 60hz but if I’m spending a good amount of money on a device i wouldn’t go backwards and get a device with 60hz. If you are only used to 60hz then sure it’s not an issue for most.

Guess I'm just built different. I can go from 144Hz, to 60Hz to 24Hz to 30Hz. Doesn't matter to me.

Can't go back to black and white as it's inferior to color
Can't go back to older music because it's inferior
Can't go back to wires, inferior

Just sounds silly.

Again you are using examples which has nothing to do with the subject at hand and are way off base from using. A UI of a phone or tablet.

For those worried that this means that Apple is dropping FaceID or that there should be more holes(!)

The rumor is that Apple has been working on a FaceID system that can be placed under the screen and while still offering the same level of security and reliability. They will have also put the true tone and ambient light sensors under the display in the same way. Only the selfie camera needs clear access and is the reason for the hole punch.

Yes, Android phones have had hole punch cameras for a while now. Apple could have done that too, but the trick is getting FaceID to work under the screen. Those Android phones with hole punch mostly use fingerprint scanners.

This rumor does not answer the question about whether Apple will bring back TouchID, too. Some rumors suggest that Apple is trying to fit TouchID under screen, too. We’ll see next fall how far they have gotten.

Oh, and no, the notchs are not just a design flourish. They are a compromize to resolve different needs to provide cameras and related hardware while reducing bezels and maximizing useable screen space. Apple does not like the need for a notch sticking out like it, but it is a reasonable solution for now. Once Apple can miniaturize the components they will do so and the notch will fade away as they do.

Don't worry.. the notch will still be there and 2022 will be the year I truly give Android another chance because I am at the end of my patience. Apple's software (for all their devices) is just so bad and buggy now and if all they are going to do is regurgitate the HW. It will be time for a change.

Nothing about that design is realistic. They made the camera island ginormous and the cameras themselves protrude even more and people expect them to get flush with the phone next year? Seriously?! And the hole punch is just ridiculous. First of all they finally downsized it a but so that in itself means they are not gonna change it for a few more years and on top of that they slapped a notch on a freaking laptop! But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Clickbait is all that matters these days because no one cares about the truth and everyone can call themselves a journalist.

I don't mind the notch (although I would not be disappointed if they got rid of it, of course), but I would LOVE for them to make the back surface all flat.

A redesign for the Pro iPhone. This will be very interesting. Maybe hole punch display might end up being a pill shape cut out like in the Galaxy S10+ if Apple cannot move FaceID under the screen.

RIP mini ? Had to buy one this year cause had a feeling there wouldn't be one next year. Truly the perfect sized phone.
I just upgraded from my iPhone 11 to 13 mini because of the fear of them going away. I was perfectly happy with my 11 aside from size. If there were an iPhone 11 mini, I would still be using that. haha.

I expect the 13 mini will serve me well for at least 4 years, or more. Especially if I can self-service some repairs like new battery, etc.

i remember when apple used to never play catch up in terms of hardware anyway to its competitors

Apple has always been behind on features for as long as I can remember. Will always likely be the case. We still have only 3x optical heading into 2022
