I am as much of a Apple biatch as everyone here but that design is starting to look quite dated. The Galaxy Fold 4 or Flip 4 are so tempting, not gonna lie.
Don’t do it, you’ll regret it. My partner has the Z Fold 3, it’s horrendous. He’s had it less than a year, it now won’t open out fully, as soon as you get ANYTHING (dust, lint, fluff etc) near the hinge, the so-called sweeping mechanism on the hinge has the opposite effect, and actually brushes dust in to the hinge. Loads of people have had this problem apparently. It’s also got a crack in the back glass. It fell out of the phone cradle in the car, it fell about an inch on to soft carpeted ground, and cracked. Not very hard wearing at all. As with all Samsungs after a time, the charging port is starting to fail, and the volume buttons are starting to play up. Of course, Samsung won’t touch any of it under warranty, and they say they need to take the whole front and back glass off to fix the hinge and the small crack in the back glass, at a cost of £500.

I had the Z Flip 3 for a little while, until I sent it back. It was nice, a really novel idea, but the battery life was shockingly terrible. I was charging it 3 times a day, and I’m not a gamer, and don’t make videos etc. Unless they’ve managed miracles with the battery in the Z Flip 4, I wouldn’t touch it.

The last Samsung phone I had was the S22 Ultra. No matter how much I flirt with the idea of going back to a Z or an S - mainly due to the aesthetics - I know I’ll regret it if I do.

Well, if I had to choose any of the colours on offer here, it would be the purple. As someone else here said, the gold is getting tired. For too many years now, it’s looked exactly the same. I’m pretty sure it can’t just be me, when you upgrade, you actually want your phone to look different and ‘new’. You don’t just want to replace it with a carbon copy of your previous phone, with new internals and a bigger camera module. I, personally, have never bought a black/graphite/grey phone. I couldn’t think of anything more boring, myself. I did quite like the Sierra Blue and did toy with the idea of getting the 13 Pro in blue, however I ended up with the standard 13 in the pink, which is actually a very pretty colour. Out of this year’s ‘alleged’ line up (and I’ll take it with a pinch of salt at the moment), the only one that’s making me throb is the purple one…we shall see!

Thanks for this. Now I don't feel bad about not having taken the Samsung offer, which expired yesterday haha I actually managed to resist my urge to buy it. 💪

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid Mag. Have one on my 12.

Seconded. I had one of these on my 12 Pro and it was awesome. Nice and grippy too :)

You did the right thing resisting temptation! I’ve nothing against Samsung as a manufacturer - I’m not one of these ‘über kvlt’ fangirl types who worships at the shrine of Apple and spits in the general direction of any other phone manufacturer (in fact, I have a Tab S8 - the Samsung Tabs are generally the only things worth bothering with), but in my honest opinion, being a serial ‘early upgrader’ (ie, paying my phone network to let me upgrade after a couple of months), the Apple phones are the only ones that consistently work, work well, and don’t start degrading to the point of practically unusable after 6 months. I’m sure when the iPhone 14’s come out you won’t regret not tying yourself to a Sammy bag of beans! 😂

After the black iPhone 3G, black/blue iPhone 5, a white iPhone 6s, a white iPhone X and the Pacific Blue iPhone 12 Pro. If have no idea which color to choose. Definitely not purple, not my kind of color. Blue can be nice but is feeling old. Maybe timeless white or black it will be. But a green color would also be interesting.

It will end up in a case anyway. 🤪

We will see after the event which color looks the best to me. 😉

I always wonder why people put on cases, the iPhones can take a beating so it’s not needed for protection. It also makes the phone annoying to get in and out of the pocket.
Because of the drop/dust protection. Not everybody works in an controlled office environment. So damage because falling on concrete, in the mud or in the water is more possible. Therefor a case and screen protector in my case.

A friend of me, does without both. Works in an office, no sweat at all.

What I mean is, live and let live. 😉

I've used a Fold 2 before and it was flawless, all manufacturers produce some bad units and that is what you have warranty for.

I think the biggest downside of the Fold is running Android but if you want something that has evolved in the past 4-5 years it seems that Android is where it is at these days.

I drop my phone all the time on various surfaces (wood, stone, carpets, asphalt, concrete) and it barely gets a scuff, the worst I ever got was a small scuff on the corner of the phone when it fell out of my pocket while biking and the phone bounced along the asphalt. The only scratch on the screen I've ever gotten (that was more than the small ones you get from normal use and storing it in a pocket) was when I dropped my phone on a rough stone floor and used my foot to slide the phone towards me with the screen down. So I really don't think they need much protection since even being stupid with them like I am doesn't result in much damage.

As for dust and water the phone is IP68 so it will be okay for most things anyway, if I've dropped mine in something I just rinse it off under the tap and it's fine. My wife runs a case on her phones though which means she spent more on cases over the years than I've done on repairs since I've broken 0 phones since I got the first iPhone in 2007, even if I were to break 1 or 2 phones she still have spent more on cases.

Yikes. 11 pastel purple was kinda nice. 11 Pro Midnight Green was excellence.

Shame nice colours (and prices) don’t stick at Apple. Unlike Lighting, 8GB of RAM for Macs, 128GB of storage for iPhones 🙄.

Ugly colours. I like the old purple and olive green. I guess "pros" need blander colours. Why not just make them all corporate navy blue..

Purple is plausible, but that purple seems too dark for an Apple Color. I think it’d be more like the purple on the iPad mini. Lighter. But I’m just guessing. Who knows.

What did you regret about the S22 Ultra? I love mine. My husband has the Z Fold 3 and he loves it. I hope it holds up! I don’t like Samsung customer service. That is indeed dealing with the typical impersonal monolith.

The past few years with these pre-recorded keynotes, the new colors are VERY hard to tell what they will look like in person. Slapping a stock image on the Pre-Order page doesn't quite match 100% - especially with color changing in the lights. (I played it safe 2 years ago with Graphite, but after seeing Pacific Blue in person, I traded Graphite in for Pacific Blue on the 13th day. Graphite last year...Sierra Blue looked WAY too light for me...in hindsight it is a pretty cool color.)

What I hope since this is a RSVP - "in person" (by a few I guess) event on 9-7 is this will be like the old full in person event with videos, real photos of the actual phone colors posted online 45min-1 hour after the event.

This will give a better idea of what these colors, especially the new color(s) will actually look like. We'll see.

But this is a Pro. Dark colors are for the Pros, pastels are for the regulars. Maybe. 🤷‍♂️

The Spigen Ultra Hybrid Mag. Have one on my 12.

The thing with transparent cases is that they turn yellow. So to keep the case look clear you’d need a new case every few months.

The back of this one is polycarbonate so it doesn't yellow. The TPU sides have yellowed a bit, but not drastically enough that I feel the need to replace it. Unfortunately, yellowing is a problem with all TPU cases but that's what you get when you want clear and grippy.

Just don’t believe this one bit 🙄

Sorry, that’s what I meant. The TPU side yellows.
