I always find it surprising that there’s so much interest in color when most people will put cases on and never see the color again…

I love the Alpine Green and that’s part of why I don’t use a case ;)

I wonder if they’ll come out with another new color in the spring like they did this year?

It's odd that the previous pictures of the purple iPhone had a pastel look to it. These new pictures go to the other extreme. I personally liked the slightly purple color much like, Sierra Blue.

Totally. As an “ancient” single-camera on my phone user i still haven’t taken the plunge and hope i don’t have to… it’s so crazy to me. I appreciate being able to take quality pics as much as the next guy but how many cameras/lenses does that take?
As a filmmaker and photographer, I can tell you— aside from personal skill and creativity, quality of the lenses is the single biggest differentiator between good photography and bad.

Quality, sure, but what does that mean re: number?
If double, triple, or more lenses are needed then it just begs the question for me, why the needed quantity Instead of just quality…
as well as the question of why most good cameras like Nikon DSLR etc. have only one lens?
Thanks in advance for any explanation, just asking genuinely as a non filmmaker and from curiosity.

Let’s take it from an Event Photography point of view— good events photographers will typically carry two camera bodies so that they can have 2 lenses to choose from— a wider and telephoto or wide and tele zoom lenses. That way, there is no changing of lenses and you don’t miss moments. The laws of physics dictate that the faster the lens (I.e. the more light it lets in) the shallower depth of field (nicer bokeh) you have. The faster the lens, the more glass is required (I.e. heavier). If you want to take great photos at any location (traveling for instance), you usually need a wide, a semi-wide, and a tele lens. That way you can cover most of the possible scenarios. Since a smartphone camera doesn’t have the room for a high quality zoom lens (not until the periscope lens anyway, but let’s see what that’s like), you need these three lenses of relatively fast apertures to cover classic photography angles and for zoom capability (digital zooms are usually horrible quality). And I might add, that I believe two if not three lenses are required for Apple’s portrait mode, etc, but someone correct me if I’m wrong on that.

There are people who can explain all this much better than me, but that gives you an idea…

I appreciate the ideas, thank you for sharing that! Food for thought,… I guess I understand the reason for these ever-growing camera bumps a wee bit more now. By the way, I think my single-lens SE 2020 iphone has portrait mode, but I believe I read something about it being down via software post-manipulation somehow, so probably the 2x or 3x lens phones have much better or more realistic portrait mode.

That purple is very eggplant. I wonder what the real phone will look like. I’m loving my Starlight SE because it goes with pretty much everything I wear. It’s going to have to be a really good purple to tear me away from the gold or silver iPhone.

Purple is going to be very specific and the phone will have to stand on its own and not be considered an accessory to whatever look I’m going for on a particular day. Because it’s going to clash so hard with some of my clothes and accessories. That’s not stopped me from carrying colorful phones around before, though.

But I’m hoping for a deep purple. I don’t want to hear that it’s some other color in most light and purple in just a few lighting conditions. I already have been there and done that with Sierra Blue that was gray or lavender or anything other than blue half the time. I think it was gorgeous but really what the heck color was it?

I want an unmistakable unapologetic purple that Prince himself would rise up from the dead to claim if he could. If it looks some weird bluish greyish mess in some lights then no, nope, keep it.

clone colors are always bad but that purple could be interesting. the video makes it seem like the purple might be iridescent like an oil spill.

I'm not getting my hopes up. Even though that darker shade of purple looks great to me, typically haven't the pro colors been more lighter/pastel-ish the regular colors of the rest of the iPhone lineup?

Probably will wait until next year anyway. But at least, if real, looks like the pro models will finally be getting decent colors now.

I always wonder why people put on cases, the iPhones can take a beating so it’s not needed for protection. It also makes the phone annoying to get in and out of the pocket.
