no, its the lower frame rates that bothers people. if the frame rate could be pegged at 120 that would help prevent people from getting sick. its when it goes to slow it creates a flicker that causes nausea. But it’s the super fast 120 that seems to be bothering him. Toggle should make it feel on par with older gen iPhones
It's a good thing choice exists. No thanks. I don’t want mine on all the time. Same with the watch.
People just need something to complain about.I love when people act as if they're being forced to use this feature... you can literally turn it off
Agreed, it's just begging for screen burn in.The idea of this is so wasteful to me. The screen automatically turns on when you pick it up already.
Whereas I’d be happy if they just included the option to LOCK the refresh rate, as I’m one of the unlucky few made sick by the variable refresh rate of the 13 Pro. It’s just a software toggle, folks. Bury it in accessibility for the few of us who want the improved cameras of the Pro but not the resulting vertigo from looking at the screen.
Already a thing,
All this does is cap the refresh rate to 60. It still goes lower...or does it?

I really hope there is breakthrough in screen technology as I can’t use all new iPhones with OLED screens because of eye strain and tension headaches.

Absolutely!Always on display outside of the pocket or when nothing covering the front would be great. I regularly have my phone propped up in front of me on my desk while working, and would love to be able to look down to see notification alerts without tapping the screen. It would be awesome if only an indicator would update instead of waking up the entire screen to show a notification, until tapped. That trade off alone might save battery life or even out.
Its amazing when I can recognize your username from every article comment section I read through. All useless criticism..No thanks. I don’t want mine on all the time. Same with the watch.

That's my main fear as well. The whole image retention.I don’t have an issue with an always on display, as it typically has a ‘low power draw’ as it is. The only concern I would have, would be image retention on an OLED display, but then again, with the Apple Watch, there’s nothing I really need to see on the lock screen of the iPhone.
It’s rare to see image retention on the Apple Watch display, but I think it would be more noticeable on a larger display like the iPhone. But if somebody has the Apple Watch, I don’t see why you would need an always on display with the iPhone, when you’re going to see direct notifications/time/weather right on the Apple Watch display. That's my main fear as well. The whole image retention.
Agreed. The AppleWatch hides image retention better. But an iPhone? I can already see the mega-thread in the iPhone forum complaining on burn-in.It’s rare to see image retention on the Apple Watch display, but I think it would be more noticeable on a larger display like the iPhone. Apple trying to differentiate lot between PRO and non-pro models. I understand the non-pro models will not have the same variable refresh screen but hope at least same cut-out pill-hole design than all good.

Exactly...AOD moves the pixels around so slightly, you wouldn't even notice it as well as the extremely low brightness level. This display was made for this...burn-in has not and will not be an issue and has been proven for nearly a decade with other phones.AOD has been pretty much perfected on Android for years now, especially with Samsung. I highly doubt you'll have to worry about burn-in on an iPhone.
I wouldn't mind an always on display. It would be very useful when I have my phone sitting on the table or when it is charging to be able to see what my notifications are without having to wake it up.
I can see Apple upgrading the display to support 1Hz refresh simply for battery life without giving always on to us though. I think Apple expects users to check notifications on their watches instead.![]()
I've always wanted this! But I can't see them pulling it off with the current battery life and what would be sacrificed to make it happen.
