I went to the Apple Store last month to check out the Silver iPhone. After analyzing the silver iPhone stainless steel scratches easily as well. You can see it very well under the light. I was a bit disappointed. Over time, scratches, and scuffs will appear. My best advice would be is to don't use your iPhone too roughly, avoid hard surfaces and continue to use Apple Polishing Cloth to wipe down the stainless steel.

Hopefully, next year iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max titanium will be more durable. The stainless steel has got to go.

Honestly great pic.

I’m hoping pro models no longer have such a polished edge anymore.

Yes I agree the polished stainless steel seems to be or used to mean premium yet it’s getting quite played out. I’d rather premium in the build quality and hardware within along with the OS and features.

I think all black iPhones are like this. For the stainless steel Pros, stainless steel naturally scratches easily. I have a Midnight 13 which has the aluminium sides and even though it's constantly in a case that has microfiber on the inside, bits of paint are chipped off in some places and it's even discolored in others. Haven't had that happen with any other brand but it is what it is. My friend's black 13 Pro looks awful on the sides. The corners are completely missing large chunks of paint and I believe that it's because it sat in a hard shell plastic case and he didn't clean that often. Dust buildup between the case and phone will scratch it up, especially the stainless steel.

Here is mine it’s only been in an Apple Leather case and gets pulled out and cleaned weekly not sure how this happened, never had it with any other iPhone recently and quite annoyed by it

After five years with iPhone X without case and screen protector I decide iPhone 14 Pro will be in case and with screen protector. Probably I'll replace this phone with next iPhone or maybe some other brand, build quality is terrible.

I bought this color first but there were multiple defects in the finish. The camera rings also had marks that wouldn’t come off. I decided no to try again and I went with silver instead. I love it so much more.

That’s clearly a chip. The edge looks flattened or out of its more original rounded shape.

Don’t let mom-iPhone owners handle your iPhone. Like trolls they’ll damage’em and return without saying a word lol.

All joking aside yeah that looks bad.

No not a chip. That’s how it looks with the crappy iPad camera but if you look from another angle or run it with your finger it follow its original shape.

here's mine along the bottom , it has like 5 or 6. cant see it in most lighting, have to be aware of it and shining on it at the right angle. Not as bad as @JCCL's that has like a whole section worn off, the 'section' on mine that looks like it to the light is just the light reflection. I cant believe I could actually capture it with my iPad Pro camera, wasn't easy!

in most other lighting even looking at it off angle, doesnt look as pronounced as here. its like a very faint silver speck, looks like a tiny piece of dust.

Not too bad- just hope this doesnt end up happening across all sides and be more common than the space black finish haha (ie more silver than black after a while)

I had something like that happen with my 14PM, and used my fingernail and was able to get rid of them. Maybe a different issue, but I was shocked, and they came out/off. YMMV?

I’m afraid of making it worse haha

It looks like the paint is off shining the light on it. Yours looked the same ?

Hard to tell, but kind of. Looked like white blobs. Some looked like they wanted to go under the screen protector as I tried to remove them. I turned my finger around so that it scrapped away from the cover, and they came out. I figured they were small pocket lint, or something. They all came off. It's just glass up until the metal.

You’re talking about the edge of screen protector?

I’m talking about the frame beneath the front the glass (the stainless steel band )

Yea i think it's a hit or miss. Just like that above post. I had something similar but I was able to rub it off and it's gone and its clean. I think it might be just some residue left behind. but then YMMV. Some are legit marks and dings and etc.

I just rubbed a glasses cleaning cloth to it and it seems to have cleaned up somewhat. not entirely, theres still little nicks there but it's much less pronounced even in the worst lighting - thanks!

I tried a small bit with my fingernail and thought I caused horizontal scuffing lol but it rubbed out after giving it a little elbow grease. Wont try that again, I think the coating is too frail in general with space black this year... cant speak for other colors but

its probably from dust or dirt accumulating in my caudabe sheath that goes over the stainless steel Band and covers it and upon removal got it, who knows

or the five seconds I tried a Clear gripzilla a few weeks ago from amazon before returning immediately since didnt like the stiff buttons on it (and prefer feel of apple cases instead in general )

Try and use a magnifying loupe to see the defect .

I’d go silver but that’s gonna scuff real easy just won’t stand out.

But I still really like black even with its concessions. Haha

Seems a thing with gold
Too
Maybe that person didn't check thoroughly. I've gotten a few that had a hairline scratches on the stainless steel right out of the box. I always do a full inspection for any defects before I power it on. Things like this for me is a definite return and rebuy.
