I totally agree on that too. For me both screens and the stainless steel casing must be perfect for me to make it a keeper. After that if I scratch it due to a drop or what not, then that is on me and I'll have to own up to it, but I just can't accept that comes right out of the box. Not worth it for me at least anyways.yeah hard to tell
if I got a good screen I'd let that be prioritized over scratches out of the box, and rolling the dice.
But I'd much rather *I* add scratches to the device than it come that way day 1 at full price

I’d go silver but that’s gonna scuff real easy just won’t stand out.
But I still really like black even with its concessions. Haha
Seems a thing with gold
Too
This is true. Unless you are using a waterproof case, you will have to periodically remove your device from the case to clean it otherwise lint, dirt and bits of gravel can cause abrasion on its smooth surfaces. I have had zero damage on my 6S, SE, 8 and 12 Mini due to weekly maintenance which consists of 2-3 minutes of cleaning the device and the case. The 13 I am presently using is in a 2 piece highly protective case so I will just take it out once each month for a clean.BUT!
Having a case on an iPhone, well ANY device, will cause damage over time. I had an iPhone 3(something) and had a case on it, and dust/dirt got into the case and just wrecked the smooth back. It looked like someone took fine steel wool to it, and in some places there was pronounced scratches and gouges, and it pent its whole life in a case and was, I thought 'safe'. HAH!!
Take any device out of the case every couple of weeks (days?) and clean both it and the case. Lesson learned. That effect has happened on may other devices in snug cases. Makes sense now that I've seen it so often. And careful of switch damage when putting the case on too...
Yep. I remove mine every two days and wipe it down as well as wipe the inside of the case down. Use a lens brush also. 👍🏼BUT!

It looks like you’ve dropped I though as the paint will not naturally peel off on its own. This is how my Space Black 14 Pro is looking after 4 months of use with no case.
This really triggers my OCD haha, wish I've researched a little bit before buying a non-silver model, wasn't aware of this issue.
Maybe over time the entire edge will peel out and won't look that bad, it's just on one side, probably gets rubbed on my jeans.
There is no screen protector on your phone, any visible scratches on the screen? This is how my Space Black 14 Pro is looking after 4 months of use with no case.

I was thinking to remove my screen protector but there is a lot of people complaining abut scratches this year. I guess I'll keep screen protector on this phone and case too. Five years of using iPhone X naked and for me that was phone whith phenomenal feel in hand. 14 Pro design with sharp edges somehow is not easy to hold, or swipe from top/sides.Don't know because I do have a screen protector installed.
It’s just a phone, a tool, the thing is that one can’t complain if the phone gets dropped and damaged and there were no case on it…. Another thing is what you can expect from a $1000+ phone in terms of durability, which I think is the point the OP is trying to make.I feel nothing for people that don't protect their stuff from life.
I feel nothing for people that don't protect their stuff from life. I have never had an iPhone without a case. One I forgot the color of it because I bought it and immediately put it in a case. But not having a case does allow for 'seasoning', and a great look over time, if it doesn't get damaged from dropping, etc.
Yet I have had cases damage iPhones too. The plastic back of one iPhone had gouges in the back from the hinges that closed the case. Apparently they were stiff enough, they actually wore small areas in the back. I was horrified, plus the grit that gets between case and iPhone causes a sandblasted look. But the enclosed device isn't shattered from gravity. *shrug* YDY, but I have dropped an iPhone before, once from the top of a 10' step ladder. It survived. The case didn't. I've had enough expensive doodads damaged by 'life' to take precautions.
Nope.
For me cases are for protecting the phone when (and if) you drop it.
What's the point of buying a $1000+ phone and put it in a $20-30 case? That just doesn't make sense to me
And yeah, any premium phone shouldn't have this kind of issues after less than 6 months of normal use... the only "rubbing" of that affected edge is when I put the phone in my pocket and get it back.
So if you decide to ever go case-less with the 14 Pro Space Black, you should expect this kind of issues anytime soon.
