This is the kind of decision Jobs himself would have made.

Before everyone jumps on that, I’m not commenting on the current state of Apple, nor the cutout, nor the indicator and what design would’ve made intuitive sense to him. Just reflecting on the kinds of things he felt were important.

I really wish we could get some type of status light up there. A blinking light for missed calls, emails, texts would be awesome.
Let me guess you want the Google play store as well? Just kidding but it seems like iPhone is moving in the direction of what android has. Of course Apple is good about implementing something after they refine it. Apple is never first or not that I can recall but they’re just better

So much COURAGE ! Wow !!
headphone jack to return in 2026? You heard it here first.
It will plug in right in the hole besides the pill.

Why not have a single smaller pill-shaped cutout in the first place without the superfluous space that they have to blacken out apparently to make it look more esthetic and cram in the indicators? Ah lemme guess - so that they can "shrink" the pill a couple generations down the line and brand it as the latest and greatest thing that ever happened to any smartphone! i(ngenious)phone indeed!
My guess is because they can’t cram the internal electronics of all the sensors arbitrarily close to each other.

The pill shaped notch seems to be positioned lower. Are we losing vertical space?
Yes, for some reason that’s what they’re going for.

I love it. I’m very happy to have the battery indicator back in any form and have been somewhat enjoying it on the iOS 16 beta (at least whenever my iPhone isn’t crashing) but this is MUCH more preferable!! Exactly what I was hoping for.

I’m kind of sick that attention to detail regarding usability features is being referred to as first-world problems. After all, this is allegedly what Apple is supposed to be good at, and because it’s actually important. I’m also pretty sure that tech aficionados in the third world care just as much about those things.

Don’t get the hype. The percentage shown in the battery icon is so much cleaner.

In other news, I know it’s gone, and we should like what apple tells us to like, but I would love a 14 mini with a 120hz screen. Even a mm thicker for more battery powaaa

Let us take a moment to take this in: It is rumored (!) that the least exiting thing to exist in a smart phone, the battery indicator, will return to something that was there before.

And the someone even took the time to comment on this. :)

Lol, no, I have just always wished that Apple would implement some type of status light on the iPhone. A glowing Apple logo would be the best. Years ago I did this mod on my iPhone 7 plus where you could make the Apple logo light up when you got a message. It was fantastic and I'd love to see Apple implement something like that.

Steve cared all about the details. It what made apple great in the first place.

And I was thinking while reading about the pill shape camera with the green and orange lights, that THIS has Steve's attention to detail, craft, and design sense all over it.

It's almost as if Apple finally hired someone (or gave someone at the company already some leadership role) that had some creativity and innovation to offer.

I actually was "wow-ed" reading about the camera cutout this last week, haha.

This just seems to be getting a bit messy and overkill for something so simple. I don’t see the purpose of having it back to the classic way over the current way on the iOS 16 beta.
At first I was excited. But if this changes depending on whether you are on the lock screen or Home Screen I agree. I don’t want to be looking in different places for the cellular signal depending on the state of my phone.

I'm upgrading just for the old battery status bar! 😉 No, I'm not dropping $1500+ CAD.
