Finally some honesty here. Right there with you. Pure WANT!
all i'm saying is when you have the money to spoil yourself, do it bud; i do it.
i stopped upgrading every year because as a long time apple consumer i dont see innovation no more, so ill keep my 14PM this year and im looking forward to get the Galaxy S24U in a few months.

I’ve been on a very long road going back to undergrad for 3 1/2 years, then medical school, and in my 4th and final year (7 and a half months until I graduate). As a soon to be resident and eventual attending, I plan to splurge on fun tech yearly.

You undoubtedly noticed how they slipped in the old Carbon Offsetting Credits as an unspecified factor in their solution to getting to carbon neutral. About as honest as a 3 card monte game in Times Square in the early 1980's.
75 percent reducing emissions and 25 percent by investing in clean energy sources. They are way ahead of the curve in comparison to the other higher tier fortune 500 companies. Name one company with close the market cap of Apple doing the same thing.

When I was a resident, my mobile phone required a man purse to carry around. But yes, I did splurge and there wasn't a lot of time to spend money those days. That was before they instituted the 80 hours per week work limit.

Can’t see any reason to upgrade from the 14Pro Max.

I'm doing it for sure. I have iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB.

iPhone 15 Pro Max will have less wear and tear since it's brand new - that's obvious. But note that I do not care how long the battery lasts, nor do I care about battery health.

I went through one leather case and now, if I sent you a picture of my Apple silicone case, you would laugh too.

I totally trashed TWO CASES in less than one year.

- OK - so I'm upgrading as per usual and I am looking forward to:

- Capturing 3D video VR for the upcoming Apple Vision goggles product.
- Improved camera. The quad prismatic "periscope" lens sounds cool. I want.
- I use my iPhone nearly every day of the year - so of course I'll upgrade yearly. I also spend $1500 for Telus unlimited North America plan. Pricey plan - I think it deserves to have the very latest Apple top quality produce!
- Wifi 6E
- it's a tool for my business - so it's a depreciable business asset.
- One year old iPhone 14 Pro Max is a great gift to relatives etc. They would otherwise be rocking some antique iPhone.
- USB-C ability to charge my Ultra Watch on those rare occasions where I totally forgot to charge
- Mainly I want it so my poor wage slave friends can envy my luck at being so rich that it's not even a decision to think about upgrading blindly like the Apple fanboy I have been since the Apple IIe. (Kidding, but it turns out that way even if you don't want it).

We are in the Information Age I think. You might have some Eureka moment and a new iPhone feature might just cause you to invent the next Billion dollar dumb idea such as twitter!

You are wasting brain time by thinking about it - just make it automatic. New is always better, stronger, faster!

Thanks for this.

Yesterday all I heard was "carbon neutral." This morning I woke up in a cold sweat screaming "CARBON NEUTRAL!!!!"

That got the dog barking and the kids crying. I was dazed and didn't know where I was and my wife spent a lot of time trying to calm me down.

Then it occurred to me I didn't even catch what they said about the products. So now I'm catching up.

Totally.

It was a woke attack on my senses.

Bastardizing Santa Claus with afro Mother Nature, and making a cute dig at Tim Cook practicing his lines "best ever iPhone - best ever iPhone" or whatever dumb line he said.

It was cute - and I DID enjoy it because in truth I do like that they are declaring carbon neutral goal, and doing it even if it is useless, and nobody really knows for sure, but if you are gonna declare "carbon neutral" - it's amazing that Apple will carry out the promise! This is INTEGRITY. Don't care if you think it's vital or if you think it's a farce, or anything in between. They declared it - and they are doing it to the letter - ahead of schedule.

If they really care about Carbon, it's inevitable they will come to the idea of the Apple Nuclear Reactor. Climate emergency! CO2!!!! Well then, you need Nuclear guys. Or maybe they will simply make lakes of solar panels and I'm ok either way. whether it's a real threat or not. I'm game to fix C02. Let's do it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger put it best - he said something like "everyone wants less pollution'. Simple.

So in the future - Apple corporation controls the world? Does your government work as efficiently as Apple on such "promises" - I think it is admirable.

It’s easily affordable for me but I’m still on my 12 Pro and was eager to upgrade though am a bit underwhelmed by the 15 Pro

Oh, you'll notice the difference.

Think of your time spent on the dang thing. Get the latest if you are spending hours daily on this addictive thing.

I think Tim Cook said something about forgetting your iPhone at home. He said " if you realize you forgot your iPhone at home and you are driving away from home, we all know you turn around and go home to get it"

Something like that. It's ESSENTIAL.

You would be naked without your iPhone. No way you are going to last one day without it - you'd miss it, and it would mess up your day probably.

Consider that. I did.

still clinging onto my gold iphone 12 pro max. Holding out for the larger display, just one year away let the countdown begin.

I felt a bit of cringe realizing the kudos Apple had in their keynote were digital influencers... iJustine, MKBHD... maybe MKBHD has some credibility, but yeesh... where's the traditional tech journalists gone?

Anyway, topic at hand... After six years, mildly debating upgrading from my iPhone 7 to a 15Pro.

Not looking forward to the weight and size increase.
Not looking forward to needing an overpriced dongle in the car (Lighting to USB-C $40 CAD) for support of wife's current iPhone and a USB-C phone for our single Carplay USB-A port.

Apple is being generous, and offering a $50 trade in for my older phone.
The U chip for more accurately spotting my airtag or airpods pro are a plus.
Might get it for the better camera and presume better battery (On year two of a new battery).

For all of you upgrading yearly or every second or even third year... why?
If you want a smaller, lighter phone, try to find a 13 mini somewhere before they're gone.

Agree. Think about how much time of your life you spend interacting with your phone. It's significant. So even it's a little better ( I think it's more than a little), it makes you life a little better as well. Every day.

"Aerospace-grade titanium chassis with contoured edges"

This is false. The chassis is still aluminum. Only the outer edges are titanium, bonded to the aluminum

The main reason to upgrade every year for me is battery. My battery capacity is at 87%. By next year it will be 74%. I cant do that for a whole year. Its bad enough now at 87%.

All i want is better battery life. Its crazy how that’s priority number 1 to apple.

Keep up the hard work bud, proud of you mate.
i was working in the oil field, have a business with my fiance and now thinking about a second business next year.
let's keep working harder mate.

Thank you for putting this list together, and for putting a dash in the column if it doesn't apply so that everything is side-by-side. Much easier to digest. Are you able to put together a comparison between the iPhone 14 Pro, 15, and 15 Pro?
Just do a comparison on the apple comparison site

Huh. Is there a reason why they have different digital zooms? Not that it'll affect me, but it's disappointing that they'd limit it like that between the Pro and Pro Max.
The optical zoom/lens is 5X on the new Pro Max and 3X on the 15 Pro, like the 14 pro. The digital zoom is based on that.

The 15 Pro received virtually zero hardware camera upgrades this year. They all went to the pro max.

That’s seemingly why they only bumped up the price on the pro max. I assume it’s mostly to drive more purchases of their most expensive phone and somewhat artificially raise their iPhone Revenue.

I'd suggest break that cycle. That seems like an excessive degraded battery. My three year old battery on my iPhone 7 shows 85%.

$100.

Or, maybe an external battery? Anker has a pretty convenient $40 lightning port battery that just slots on to the bottom of the phone to charge for a little bit. https://www.anker.com/products/a1645?variant=42700490637462&ref=collectionBuy&discount=WSCPB0FVOW

Its

You’re absolutely right about the marketing 💩 Apple is pouring out. But at least it’s better for your wallet and the environment nothing significant has changed.
but more recycled carbon neutral EARTH ZERO

how about not upgrading? that's carbon neutral too

It's kinda ******** that you need the iPhone 15 Pro to do spatial video. I don't see any logical reason why they couldn't also support this on the iPhone 14 Pro. Yes I get that it gives people an incentive to upgrade, but then again, the more phones that support spatial video, the more of a reason to buy a Vision Pro.
