What are people on the upgrade program thinking? I am on it and have a 14 Pro Max - not even sure its worth changing it but I would feel cheated. I would need to pay £69 and a case the monthly would be about the same. Not sure what the benefit would be though. Thought about a 15 Plus which would be cheaper per month but would be downgrade screen wise.

iPhone 15 is 10% faster only?. The famous switch to 3nm just brings a 10% speed improvement?. And the same battery life?. Really?. That’s the “big upgrade”?. How about real life usage?, only 10% faster??
There is an easy answer to this: Battery Life is measured by Apple with Video & Audio Playback. Both are Hardware accelerated and nearly have no impact on the processor.
Most of the Battery is simply used by the display which stayed the same ... And OLED is using more power that LCD, that's why battery life was even getting worse with the newer devices.

The only thing that has me thinking about an upgrade of my iPhone 11 Pro is the current trade in value of my device. If I wait another year for a better upgrade, I could see a much less trade in value…
Same here but I have the 12P.
$360 right now which is low already.

Anyone know if values will be lowered this Friday when we’re able to pre-order the 15?

I recommend selling the device on eBay. You'll get twice the money Apple is offering you ...

Sorry if this has already been asked, but can anyone confirm whether the following features will be available to the 14PM or only the 15s (AFAIK, it's available to the 15s and 15 Pros): upgraded, after the fact portrait + focus shifting (depth information in every photo).

Seems like it would be more than possible for the 14Pros, but not sure if Apple has decided to differentiate on purpose.

This is a great article.
I can’t believe the 14 pro was over 200 grams.

I’m seriously considering upgrading my 11 pro (188 grams) to the 15 pro (187 grams) I think it will be a nice upgrade.

I’m also thinking I might go up in size to the 15 pro max. Not sure yet.
I'm in the same position. The 11 Pro is still fine, but I do want better cameras for taking pictures of my kids (a longer telephoto is really helpful in this context). Thinking of holding out for more telephoto next year, but could be convinced to move to the Pro Max now, though the 15 Pro does increase the telephoto focal length from my 11 Pro. Might need to buy pants with bigger pockets.

Apple always holds back features that are technically feasible on older phones.

I installed the RC of iOS 17 on my 14 Pro last night and don't see those features.

I like that there now seems to be with 15 PM an in between SIZE for larger MP images,,, a 24 mP and a 48 mP.. that could be nice and useful.

Also, vis a vis the chart, I expect the “AAA roadside assistance” access via satellite to be available with ANY 14 PLUS or PM and any 15 phones going forward. I think this is just an enablement over the same connectivity channels, and with ios 17 most likely it will be an alternate selection for Emergency/SOS/Roadside Assist.

Up until now, I was expecting to go with a Pro Max for the first time to get the enhanced zoom, but upon further reflection… ehhh an extra 2x zoom isn’t going to change things much.

If anyone is feeling the draw of the zoom lens, don’t base your decision on it. Even if it were a 10x zoom, you can’t expect a phone lens it to give you the kind of performance a good 10x interchangeable lens can give you.

You can zoom with your feet for most things and the things that are too far away will still be too far away. They’ll merely be very small instead of tiny at 5x vs 3x.

I expect to put in for a 256GB 15 Pro… sometime soon. I will procrastinate as I always do because I hate upgrading.
25x digital zoom vs 15x btw

iPhone 15 Pro would be a downgrade because of USB-C. Use AirDrop + wireless charging. So simple.

I owned every iPhone since 3g(except iPhone 11 Pro Max). I upgraded from 13 Pro Max to 14 Pro Max only because I got a $1000 trade on my Magenta Max plan. If I get that amount of trade in again, I will do. Otherwise my 14 Pro Max is amazing.
They’re only doing roughly 600 for magenta Max this year

Significant upgrade? I don’t think so MR. Significant would be a leap in the overall form factor like the iPhone 3 to 4 for example. This is a minor bump to show progress towards whatever is coming for later models.

Meanwhile there is some shadow coming on the east front. Seen the remarkable market share grab it got in a few year times over the iPhone before the ban, I’m curious to see what happens with these in-house developments. Won’t be surprised that they are able to evaporate Apple sales in China in the not so distant future. You may think what you want, but at least they are innovating by the speed of light.
Yay! Huawei just released the iPhone 12!!
(likely with stolen IP)

I felt a bit of cringe realizing the kudos Apple had in their keynote were digital influencers... iJustine, MKBHD... maybe MKBHD has some credibility, but yeesh... where's the traditional tech journalists gone?

Anyway, topic at hand... After six years, mildly debating upgrading from my iPhone 7 to a 15Pro.

Not looking forward to the weight and size increase.
Not looking forward to needing an overpriced dongle in the car (Lighting to USB-C $40 CAD) for support of wife's current iPhone and a USB-C phone for our single Carplay USB-A port.

Apple is being generous, and offering a $50 trade in for my older phone.
The U chip for more accurately spotting my airtag or airpods pro are a plus.
Might get it for the better camera and presume better battery (On year two of a new battery).

For all of you upgrading yearly or every second or even third year... why?

25x digital zoom vs 15x btw
I'm not familiar with the digital zoom specs. Is that what the maximum digital zoom is between the 15 Pro and the 15 Pro Max?

Then again, digital zoom numbers are mostly a gimmick. It might help you better line up the shot by blowing the image up on the screen, but you're not getting improved quality.

Acttion Button - I guess it’s too much to hope it will be possible to customise the same way switch on iPhone 14pro max, right? I assume they will not allow that on purpose

The first year depreciation on phones is always brutal, and the upgrade program (using a 14 Pro 512 as an example) locks you into the US$700+ - a - year payment.
I got in, and got out. It's not worth spending that much.

I am usually on a 2yr upgrade cycle, but I remain on the fence over upgrading from a 13 Pro.
my wife too. Only real issue is she has a 128GB, but seems to be okay.
She also cooks her screens - keeps at near max brightness due to a lot of outdoor activity.
