That's what I came to comment. Apple watch 6 or better?I wonder if it needs an apple watch with the UW1 chip.

That’s for the iPhone 18 Pro Max Plus Ultra only with the 1tb configurationWith this level of thinking, you'd think the watch could end workouts whenever connected to CarPlay or your vehicle's bluetooth.
Proximity data will be used. How far apart the watch and the phone needs to be before this kicks in is still to be determined I guess. If your room is that large I can only assume you won't be able to see your screen from across the way anyways. How does it determine you've left the room? What if it's a really big room or you're outside? 🤔
Wouldn't it be more likely determined by the distance between the two devices?
it will, your friends will see that AOD will be off when you leave themA small detail that nobody would notice.

For you, your new iPhone will turn on after a 500ms delay -- just to mess with you. It’s interesting that the always-on display is, in fact, not always on. I hope it turns on very quickly so that the illusion persists upon removing from a pocket.
Exactly! It's probably based on distance. How far apart the watch and the phone needs to be before this kicks in is still to be determined I guess.
This is AOD with an additional benefit. There’s nothing sneaky about figuring out integrated ways to improve the experience for users.yeah this feels a little sneaky, not really "always on" is it, apple?
ok, I was referring to the always-on display being not always-on. But lets play along: can you imagine a scenario where the always on display might be useful to TWO people, where one of them wears an Apple Watch? And then leaves the room, and the display turns off? This did not take huge imagination here. But again, my quip is with the so-called always-on display not being really always-on. Does my always-on apple watch pick sneaky points in the day to not be always-on? NO! no sneaky business there. If you aren't with your phone and the screen isn't on does it really matter?
You can enable that in settings right now where notifications don’t display unless security has been unlocked (faceid or touchid)It would be nice if the screen would stay off, should no notifications have not been read.
Perhaps this is a U1 benefit?Exactly! It's probably based on distance.
Just pointing out that it probably doesn't detect when you've "left the room", which is how the article phrased it.
Proximity data. Presumes as much right in the original post. How does it determine you've left the room? What if it's a really big room or you're outside? 🤔

always on? or often on? what if two people (your old grandparents for instance) like to look at their always on display but it keeps turning off every time granddad leaves to take a leak?Exactly.
Apple says "hey we found another way to extend the battery the peanut gallery is always whining about"
Peanut Gallery: THIS IS SNEAKY!
