Whoopity doodah! Big frigging deal! It still lucks butt ugly and is stupid. Perhaps if less people were so engrossed in selfies they would see how senseless a front camera is. A popup camera that pops up out of the top of the iPhone would be much better, especially for those who rarely use the front facing camera. Small cameras have used popup flashes for decades, it seems natural to use that idea with a front facing camera and get totally rid of all the pills and notches.

Not just camera in there. Also FaceID emitter+sensor and ambient light sensor.

A shared wi-fi network, geolocation, contact tracing, or other information that demonstrates you were together allows advertisers to make very good guesses as to what you talked about, as long as they have halfway-decent profiles on all participants.
Nono, I did not look up nothing about that or similar, that’s why I wonder how exactly happened.
Yeah, that’s what I thought in that moment… a direct contact with friends (with their android phones), or maybe a shared wifi had the key for targeting accurately well.

First we had fools complaining about bezels. Now they’re complaining about the phone having a speaker.

No wonder vendors get away with peddling ever-more-crippled phones.

For all those people wondering about the “wasted” space above the cutout I have the following question. These are honest questions because I believe answering them will answer the question for the iPhone:

Why do almost all android phones with a hole-punch camera in the corner not just make the entire corner of the screen a black section instead of having those wasted pixels around it? Why not have every center hole punch be a tear-drop shape instead of just a hole with that wasted space above?

There are tear drop phones, Samsung has it in there low to somewhat mid range phone tiers. Do your research.

For this pill to work, it HAS to be higher up than these rumors are showing.
The earlier rumors said that while the pill & punch would sit a few pixels further below the top edge of the screen, the whole screen is the same number of pixels taller so the end result would be that the content area under the pill & punch is the same as under the notch.

Hoping that those rumors are true. I don’t want to see all the posts about how Apple is stealing screen space, otherwise.

Yes, I know what targeted ads are and I totally understand (and in part agree) your point, but the thing is that is too much coincidence to talk about some specific things like a portable water filters and 4h later IG show you an ad of exactly that. In this particular case I never have seen any ad about that or similar, not even known that it exist.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but surely is very weird…
I agree and I understand what you’re saying but my point is you’re only going to notice it when it happens but not notice all the times it doesn’t happen. For you to try to figure this out you would have to look at every ad and write down what that was about and then write down what you said before.

Most people know what targeted advertisements are but they don’t know the details. It’s like everyone knows what hot dogs are but not how they’re made. If you really start researching about targeted advertising and how they track you across the web it’s pretty scary. It’s a lot worse than listening to your microphone because they get so much more data. Companies like Facebook, Google and other ones you probably never heard of have detailed profiles of you and everyone. The good thing is they’re not out to get you but just to sell your stuff. Maybe don’t research this because sometimes not knowing is better 😂

Pareidolia - is the tendency for perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus.

Paredolia is often about interpretation of visual patterns and I'm sure that there are other terms that apply to more general pattern association but Paredolia is a cool term and does apply.
It seems most of the definitions talked about people confusing objects for maybe other objects but I didn’t read the whole Wikipedia article. This seems like correlating to events like perhaps an advertisement with something they said.

I mean the word coincidence comes to mind but the advertisement could be related to another action like a purchase using their debit card. They buy a fishing pole with their debit card and then all the sudden get advertisements for fishing stuff. Of course they’re talking about fishing because they just bought a fishing pole and they think it had to do with them talking about it but it was actually the purchase that triggered the ads.

Why do I seem like I’m the only person who actually really liked the look of the hole + pill shaped cutout? I think one long pill-shaped cutout looks terrible, at least the other design looked somewhat unique compared to most of the other Android camera cutout designs. They might as well keep the notch if they’re gonna go this route, it’s not like it’s much different anyway.

I hope there’s a way to turn off the black space in between the Face ID sensors and the camera so we can actually see the screen in between them.

Because this is fanboydotcom, Apple could make a star tac with an Apple logo on it and most people here would praise them.

I thought the “i” looked cool too, just like Apple to **** it up and use that space for these moronic privacy indicators, the last thing I want is ugly green dots popping up on my screen constantly. I know when I’m using the camera, I don’t need Apple constantly nagging me about it. At this rate Apple will never have an all screen phone.

If it was just fanboyism then people here would like whatever Apple decided so that isn’t it.

I don’t like either one and I think they should’ve just stuck with a notch and made it smaller.

Those indicators are already there. They are just to the right side of the notch. Do they bother you now?

While there is such a think as "fanboys" that like everything. There are also "anti-fanboys" that seem to complain about every change where everything is an example of Apple effing up and everything looks "fugly". We should be wary of falling into either trap.

My question was why they all don’t have tear drops, if that design is objectively better, as some people seem to think.
In fact, the higher end the phone is, the less likely it is to have one, as you point out. Makes a person think. 🤔
The fact that I mentioned the teardrop at all should show that I understood that that option existed.

My post was intended to promote critical thinking and inspire an attempt to understand all sides. There are clearly benefits and downsides, both objective and subjective, to every type of display cutout/notch.

"All" is subjective, why ask a question that has a obvious answer which is the following: tear drop phones by design can only fit smaller front camera modules and sensors in such a tiny space just like a simple hole punch.

Otherwise you use something like a notch or large pill (something with more surface area) to allow more space for those sensors and camera modules (Apple's way). Doesn't take a genius.......

And who said tear drops were better????

This is an Apple related site. It shouldn't be a surprise that the majority are fans of Apple. The weirder thing are the Apple haters that frequent the site. I guess their Samsung or whatever products are so inferior, they can't stop fawning over Apple and need to try and rationalize their bad purchase decision by crapping on everything Apple does.
