"Care" might be a strong word, but it's a nice-to-have, especially if you're spending $1K on a phone. Say what you want about Apple, but they do often sweat the details.
My orange M1 iMac came with a matching USB to lightning cable, keyboard and mouse, and they're nicer looking on my desk than the generic silver and white versions would be.
Same applies for the "cheap" HomePod Mini. All comes with colored cables.
That would be another smart move by Apple. The cables are made more durable so that people can use their cable for a long time and from the looks of others can say: Yes, this is an Apple cable (Because it's colorful) Apple knows they lost the battle with the Lightning connector, so you have to make up for it ensure that at least their customers buy and use USB-C cables from Apple for a long time instead of those from other manufacturers. If they would only be THIS proactive concerning their quality of their hard- and software these past years.
In a completely unrelated story, all of Samsung's models next year will also come with color matched USB-C cables.
I like this change. Hopefully the colors of the 15 Pro line are going to be smashingly gorgeous!

Speaking of which, I would like a shorter Apple Watch USB-C fast charging cable. The 1 meter ones are quite long for some purposes. They used to have a 1 foot version but it is USB-A.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could come with color-matched braided USB-C to USB-C cables, according to a rumor coming out of Asia.
Twitter user "Majin Bu" first shared the information over the weekend, but was unable to verify the source of the rumor circulating on Chinese social media. Now, Apple device prototype collector "Kosutami" has affirmed that they have seen design validation test (DVT) samples of the color-matched braided USB-C cables and they are apparently destined to come alongside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
With the exception of the black version, each of the cables has a glossy white plastic shell at either end. Unlike the Apple Watch magnetic charging cable and MagSafe 3, the braided USB-C cables feature strain relief tubes.
Kosutami told MacRumors that they are anticipating that these cables will at least come in white, black, yellow, purple, and orange color options. It seems that this orange shade will be closer to a pink, perhaps like the iPhone XR's Coral color option. Each of these cable colors should match up with a corresponding iPhone 15 color option. A single rumor from February suggested that the iPhone 15 will be available in Pink and Blue, but it is otherwise unknown what specific color options the new devices could come in.
To date, all iPhone models have come with a white cable featuring a white rubber jacket, regardless of the color option chosen for the device itself. Apple has gradually been moving to braided cables across most of its devices, and all MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with MagSafe 3 come with a color-matched braided cable, so doing the same for the iPhone seems plausible amid its transition to USB-C.
Update: The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also apparently come with color-matched braided USB-C to USB-C cables, MacRumors has been told.

I'm surprised that Apple did this. They should have went with off-white braided covering cables only just to save money.

Apple can make 38 different colored USB-C cables but can't make 1 black pair of airpods?
seems like a waste of excess cables to produce, which it thought they were helping the environment with years ago by not including them? also, why don't they color coordinate the end caps? odd
I’m guessing the silver ones will come with white because that’s the color charging cable that came with my M2 MacBook Air.
Now that the iPhone is switching to USB C, customers have more options to get their cables elsewhere. I suppose this would provide a little incentive for them to buy from Apple instead.
