Items are waste only when they are declared so, legitimately (legally).

I have inherited iPhones I still use as the head unit for bike bluetooth speakers, so even they are not waste.
And you plan to continue using these after you’re dead OR you are guaranteeing that you and your descendants will always use OR find others that will use them?

I know some people are proud that they use a device for a number of years past when anyone else would have used it. However, the environment timescales are not reined in by decades. 1,000 years is but a flash in geological scales. What devices made today, geologically speaking, are NOT e-waste?

Thank you Apple for the braided cables. They are so Durable!

Aliexpress stuff. Definetly fake. Apple wouldn’t make the cable this long

Exactly this. Long conductors have higher resistance, which greatly reduces charging speed.

Just a few ohms makes a big differences. Ohm's law in action. Ohm's law is also the reason why those cheap 26 gauge no-name cables with aluminum conductors are so poor at charging anything. When you pay so little, it must be junk. Simple economics: copper is a great conductor, but hefty copper wire is expensive.

Define expensive.
Money wise they are inexpensive.

As for short vs long, I see very little difference for my high charge rate Android devices. Going with a 6' or 10' has minimal if any realistic impact.

Do you really think Apple is going to bundle this together with the iPhone?
It's too long, wouldn't even fit in the box.
Yeah, this is sooooooo going to be a separate purchase.
If that’s the case, I’ll go for Anker’s once they release their USB-C version of the charging cable.

I just don’t this as legitimate. Why go through the process of creating different colors for each product. Seems like a lot ot extra time and resources
Yeah, this feels like something Apple will regret doing by next year. They’ll probably use a white braided cable for all colors of the iPhone 16 lineup to make it easier in addition to reducing costs.

This is fake judging by the design and length.

The design should look like this (first photo), look closely at each end of the cable. I like the new braided cable without the plastic end.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could come with color-matched braided USB-C to USB-C cables, according to a rumor coming out of Asia.

Twitter user "Majin Bu" first shared the information over the weekend, but was unable to verify the source of the rumor circulating on Chinese social media. Now, Apple device prototype collector "Kosutami" has affirmed that they have seen design validation test (DVT) samples of the color-matched braided USB-C cables and they are apparently destined to come alongside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

With the exception of the black version, each of the cables has a glossy white plastic shell at either end. Unlike the Apple Watch magnetic charging cable and MagSafe 3, the braided USB-C cables feature strain relief tubes.

Kosutami told MacRumors that they are anticipating that these cables will at least come in white, black, yellow, purple, and orange color options. It seems that this orange shade will be closer to a pink, perhaps like the iPhone XR's Coral color option. Each of these cable colors should match up with a corresponding iPhone 15 color option. A single rumor from February suggested that the iPhone 15 will be available in Pink and Blue, but it is otherwise unknown what specific color options the new devices could come in.

To date, all iPhone models have come with a white cable featuring a white rubber jacket, regardless of the color option chosen for the device itself. Apple has gradually been moving to braided cables across most of its devices, and all MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with MagSafe 3 come with a color-matched braided cable, so doing the same for the iPhone seems plausible amid its transition to USB-C.

Update: The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also apparently come with color-matched braided USB-C to USB-C cables, MacRumors has been told.

Mind. Blown.

(Except not quite really.)

Just so you guys know that each iPhone comes with a 1-year warranty which can be used to get a new lightning cable all you have to do is send the old cable back.
Being able to swap for a completely different connector on warranty terms? Please share where Apple states this in writing, I am intrigued! 😄

Reused cables from HomePod Mini. Also those cables are extremely long, so it's very unlikey they are for iPhone.

Just realized this, yeah this is most likely cables stripped from HomePod Minis with extra connectors glued on.

Same five colors as HomePod, approximate five foot length instead of three, strain relief, no starlight instead of silver, etc. etc. Them being the same colors as the iMacs had me thinking these could be for updated USB-C Magic accessories but modded HomePod cables makes more sense.
