But as I posted later in this thread:I'd say that is just normal battery degradation. I do not believe it has anything to do with your battery charging habits.
We have a 3 and a Y. We charge to 80%. I know you’re joking, but I only drive about 50 miles per day (primarily shuttling the kids to school and back). And I can charge in the garage overnight (or any time really) so no need to charge to 100% or even 90%.Guess you don't own a Tesla. Those poor people have to do the same. 😄
Does Optimized Charging work if the phone is off? (No).There is absolutely ZERO technical reason that all phones that support "Optimized Charging" can't support this.
Optimized charging literally has the phone hold at 80% until charging the final 20% just before it expects to be used.
It has nothing to do with USB-C.
Can’t agree more!! ❤️Nope. Charge to full, smash the battery, MagSafe in the car, upgrade after a year. It made no difference on the 13 pro. The 14 pro just had a **** battery.
What do you mean AlDente doesn't support this feature? I have my M1 Max MacBook Pro set to never charge above 70%, in my case.BTW, this feature was added to all Apple Silicons MACs with new firmware update on Ventura. You can limit battery charge to 80%. When enabled, Mac always charges to 80% and not more.
See: https://github.com/actuallymentor/battery/pull/163
Feature must be enabled manually by editing specific SMC key. There is no GUI in Settings app in Ventura. AlDente doesn't yet support this feature.
What about people who DO care? Can’t agree more!! ❤️
I was wondering if the battery percentage had anything to do with my StandBy not keeping the screen on. Have you found any solutions to this?I wonder if standby screen stays on when it reaches 80% 🤔
Me too, but I wish it were native since my MacBook is basically a desktop replacement that only needs to be a laptop about twice a month.I use a program called Aldente which does this as well. Works well.
That's exactly where this setting is for. While using carplay don't overcharge your phone. What I want is a mode where the phone is not charging while plugged in. Would be extremely useful for CarPlay not killing my battery. IIRC some new Samsung phones support this.
It’s not $49.People always want to complain about anything. But yea, I fully agree with you. Like 49$ for battery change is too expensive (if you plan to keep the device a few years)
Some places are less , some more. Apple charges $99It’s not $49.
You mean that the iPhone 14 Pro has a **** battery? Yes I do care about it but Apple refused to replace it.What about people who DO care?
So its still higher capacity than it would be if you were limiting to 80% charge (which would be 80% from new).Good to know. My launch day iPhone 14 Pro is now down to 89% after a mixture of wireless charging in the car and overnight charging (optimized) at night (with MagSafe mostly).
i100% this... I don't understand the "intelligence" behind when it does and doesn't restrict the charge. It's clear that it is software, so why not just provide a frkkn slide switch.... It can't be that hard.Nice, hope this comes to macOS as well, where the OS will sometimes notice that you're constantly plugged in and stay at 80%, but it's really inconsistent. Just let me configure it!
Is this speculation or is there any actual data behind this? I ask because my 11 Pro is down to just 94% and, aside from turning Optimized Battery Charging on, I don't do anything else to "preserve" battery life. It gets wirelessly charged to 100% every night.Extreme states of charge like 100% and 0% negatively affect battery health because the materials expand and contract.
Posts claiming usage of iphone for a year and still at 100% is asinine. This is chemistry not magic. If you use your battery, capacity will go down. If you charge to 100% it will degrade faster. These are facts
