How about an Action Button task to turn your iPhone into Landscape Mode instantly?

Wow! action button that can launch the flashlight. Wow apple! This is just next level. Don’t focus on bugs and maybe letting users place their icons where they want on the grid. No no. Action button to replace the most useful button ever that is the silence switch that we have used for a decade!!!! **** you apple
Wow, this is one feature in a new phone. Why all the hate?

If you have been following the changes in the new iOS, iPad OS, and Mac OS, you would see that they are focusing on small, quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and stability this year. Very few large feature changes. All the reports about the betas are that they are very stable.

As to the mute switch, from what I have observed and others have reported, most people use that mute switch one when they get a new phone to turn the ringer off and then they leave it in mute until they get a new phone. For those that do switch the ringer on and off, Mute is one of the available functions that you can assign to the button.

I don't really use the Action Button on my Apple Watch Ultra. Do you?
I'm going to miss the classic Mute Switch which only had one job to do! Some things are great being left alone. Furthermore, less is more.

The mute switch is useless for many people. The only time mine moves is when I take my case off to clean my iPhone.

I use the Action Button on my Ultra all the time. I start my exercises with it. The customizable Action Button on iPhone will be an absolute improvement. You can use it as a mute switch you want, still.

Um, I believe you got sarcasm on us 😂

If we’re voting. Mine would be:
Remove the mute switch
No new action button
Customizable Lock Screen buttons
Everything else in control panel
Great suggestions! But your post reminds me of All Glass iPhone.

You can only use one action at a time. Cannot select multiple actions. This is how it looks in Apple Watch Ultra. Basically, you select an action and it shows up on Apple Watch Ultra. You cannot select multiple actions.

Yes, that looks right. You would preset which function to assign to the button and then pressing the Action button would invoke that action. It's not a choice that you make each time you press the button is it?

I thought that you would configure the button for one of those functions ahead of time. Pressing the button would execute that function. I don't see a need to click on the screen unless that function has multiple steps.

Isn't that the way it works on the Ultra watch? (I don't have an Ultra)
Still have to look at the screen to determine whether what I just wanted happened or the opposite happened. For removing the mute switch, there’s no tactile way to tell what happened like there is now.

Leave the button to trigger silent then! I literally never use the ringer switch, and would rather have ringer be decided by focus modes.

I leave my phone in Silent mode. The vibration is sufficient since my phone is with me all the time. But you have a good point that the new Focus feature could be a good way to control Silent mode.

Is iOS getting complicated for the average user? Yes.

There’s no way rotation lock won’t be an option. CMONNNN

I'd actually like that. Some apps still don't do auto-rotation correctly. Netflix does it well where you can keep it locked in one orientation, but then the screen rotates to landscape automatically. But TV+ needs you to unlock the rotation in order to get into landscape, which is frustrating. It's simple enough to pull down the Control Centre and toggle the lock, but a quick tap on the Action button would do the same thing.

I'm not a fan of the side button on the current iterations. I'm always confused by it. Is it a sleep button? A mute button? Something else? It's no longer obvious like it was when it was on the top of the phone. I hope they rethink that. Maybe move it down further to the middle of the phone so it's not immediately opposite the volume buttons?

I hope we're able to set alternative actions by click, double click, triple click, and long press. And I hope that actions can be context sensitive to the app you're using.

Is this action button going to do all of these things or we’ll have to choose one?

I wasn’t that interested in this new feature but it’s multi action then that would be cool. One press does silent, two presses launches shortcut, etc. Or a long press brings up a menu of options.

I want a camera button. I know I know. But it was one of the best things about the lumia 1020. It’s 41 megapixel camera with raw support and a camera button in 2013.

Mute switch is better than mute button. With the switch you always know 100% without looking at the phone when you muted because left is always mute. With button, it will be like with Android, you need to doublecheck if it was mute or unmute... I prefer mute switch over mute button.

i stopped jailbreaking once it became clear that Activator was never going to be updated to work with current iOS... it was really the main reason I jailbroke at all. :(
Do people still actually jailbreak these days with iOS 17 and the new iPhones lol.

I think the last time I jailbroke an iPhone was in the iPhone 6 era. Maybe 5s. Then it got to convoluted so I just stopped lol
