The amount and pace of innovation from Apple is just staggering. I mean, USB-C, 8GB of RAM, modern Wi-Fi, *and* a customizable action button in the same update?

They must have had their top teams working 24/7 for years to figure out how to pull this off!

OOC: I have all Apple products, so obviously I see value in them, but the reality distortion field of Apple marketing that somehow, about 5 years too late we're getting USB-C, an action button, and other very basic stuff is somehow "keynote worthy" and whipping up everyone into a buying frenzy is actually the only innovative thing here. Fine, take my money, not because Apple is actually innovative, but the Android ecosystem is just (still) pathetic. I love Apple, but I also want them to have a credible competitor so we don't have to wait for things like the EU to step up and mandate the change that is actually exciting and nice before Apple will deliver it to consumers. A technology monopoly wasn't great when MS/Intel made one and this AAPL/Arm/TSMC tie up isn't doing consumers any favors, either, now/anymore.
The problem is what the tech bubble considers “exciting” and what everyone else does. Of course, a connector change is not exciting for basically everyone. That’s why it’s a minor point in the 15 Pro’s marketing material (highlighting its few benefits just to offset the small turmoil that the change will bring). Same goes for 8GB of RAM and WiFi 6E. Design, cameras, screen… that’s what people look for. But bloggers somehow highlight the most irrelevant change.

Kinda wondering if usb ports in car (the one I use for CarPlay) works with this having usb c. Get an A to C cord or an adapter from Apple.

Finally going to make the jump from my XR to the 15 Pro. I’d love the 5x zoom on the max, but not loving the size and either way, XR to 15 Pro will be a massive jump for me. Although, I’ll prob check out the 14 and 14 Pro refurb market the next few weeks to see how much they drop. I was thinking initially the 15, but since I buy unlocked full price, it’s only $170 difference (excluding tax), which isn’t much over 4-5 years of ownership.

Anyone have a good review they’ve found that really shows off the colors? Debating between the white and the light gray… I like the “one slab of metal” look

I was going to buy the 15 Pro Max but I am dissapointed in just a 10% performance gain with the A17 processor and no real improvement in battery life. The new 3nm A17 chip so far is a dissappointment to me, I expected more. I'll just keep my current iPhone for another year.

If they had left the mute toggle and added the action button in addition... It would have been useful as a camera button like they had on the battery case a few generations ago.

I “want” the pro… it’s not a need. My wallet is whispering “no!”

Curious how many on here use your phones for profit? Or are the added features enough to get the Pro over the regular?

I’ll be upgrading my 256GB 14 Pro Max for the 512GB 15 Pro Max, but I’ll be doing it without enthusiasm or excitement since it won’t be much of an upgrade.

I thought the film with Mother Nature was clever, funny and informative. Why shouldn't a company tout its progress/accomplishments, especially in an entertaining, non-board meeting style?
Yes it was cute. But it was a time consuming deflection.. fact is …not much change occurred on the “new devices” being offered. no hate… as I love my 14 pro max. And I’ll forever love my Apple products. But it just seems redundant to upgrade to virtually the same device I currently have. And they threw the video in to distract potential buyers. IMO anyway.

Just curious, if I wake up tomorrow at 5 a.m. and put in my pre-order for a 15 Pro Max, are the chances good that I'll receive it on the 22nd?

Not sure if you're into video or if you're an FCP user on the Mac, but the idea of being able to record ProRes log to an external recorder and then pop it into a Macbook for quick editing sounds kind of intriguing.

For still photography, I like the new "focal length" selection (maybe not a functional change but perhaps a cozy UI improvement for photographers). The ability to get a 12mp 48mm equivalent photo will be nice. That's a focal length that I enjoy using, but it's too much of a compromise with the 13P imho. Probably not dramatic improvements, but hopefully some nice to haves.

Yeah - recording to external storage is pretty cool, but not something I could see myself using much for simple holiday/family videos. Heck - I usually just set them for 1080p30 for memories etc because the file sizes were too annoying to get off via lightning or wifi. I did a proof-of-concept video for my podcast and this might something to explore now that manipulating large files will be less annoying.

My guess is that Apple will have done just enough for me to scratch the upgrade itch, even though my frugal side is urging me to live with the phone for another year. In truth, I work from home, I now need glasses to enjoy my phone (so I use my iPad more) and my phone sits around the house unused for 23.5 hours a day. I don't need to spend $1,000 on the upgrade but, well, ... shiny new, shiny new.... :)

Apple's such a meme at this point.

Wasting 10+ mins of their premiere product Keynote on some cringey self-congratulatory environmental crap; hyping up USB-C by listing the other Apple products that have had it for years; minimal processor speed improvements, all the result of TSMC's 3nm node wizardry; and multiple misleading comparisons, the worst of which was tricking everyone into thinking the Pros feature a new bigger main camera sensor (even MKBHD misreported this).

Anyway, gonna be up at 5AM tomorrow to order that Blue 15 Pro.

Thank you! Best laugh I had all day!

  • Lightning has been replaced with a USB-C port for a more universal charging standard and faster data transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps.
  • All four iPhone 15 models support DisplayPort for up to 4K HDR video mirroring and video output to an external display or TV with a supported USB-C to DisplayPort cable, according to Apple's tech specs for the devices.
  • A new titanium frame results in the iPhone 15 Pro models weighing up to 10% less than the iPhone 14 Pro models with a stainless steel frame.
  • A customizable Action button replaces the traditional mute switch on previous iPhones. By default, the button is set to toggle between Ring and Silent modes, but it can also be assigned to a different action for quick access to the camera, flashlight, Voice Memos, Shortcuts, Focus modes, and more.
  • The new A17 Pro chip enables up to 10% faster CPU performance and up to 20% faster GPU performance compared to the A16 Bionic chip.
  • The devices are equipped with 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB in the iPhone 14 Pro models. Along with the new A17 Pro chip, extra RAM benefits overall system performance, particularly for multitasking.
  • There are thinner bezels around the screen compared to the iPhone 14 Pro models.
  • Like the latest Macs and iPad Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro models support Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz) for faster wireless speeds and less signal interference. Remember, you'll need a Wi-Fi 6E router in order to take advantage of this functionality.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusively features up to 5x optical zoom.
  • The devices are equipped with a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. Apple says two iPhones with this chip can connect from 3x farther away.
  • The devices feature a more repairable internal design, with a redesigned frame that allows for the back glass panel to be easily removed from the devices. This change was first made to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus last year.
  • New colors: Natural Titanium, Blue Titanium, White Titanium, and Black Titanium.

Seems like most of the new articles on MacRumors in regards to the new iPhones & A17 Pro SoC are neglecting to mention one of the most exciting features - Hardware Ray-Tracing...!

Also, with the ability to record to an external drive, maybe we see an Apple MagSafe SSD...?

what some people are missing is that when Apple does it.. it does it RIGHT!
Individually they might sound like less impressive small improvements. This maybe such a bad excuse, but it is also true that the sum of small small things are more important in the whole Apple ecosystem.
