Not expecting much for ip15. Especially, if rumors are true with ip16 having another tier of devices. Need to have some kind of difference between devices.

Introducing Apple Finger Cots. (Exclusively made for the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max) Available: September 2023.

No more gloves. But you will be needing this. It's much more efficient! They are very popular in Asian markets.

I gave my son gloved for Christmas that have iPhone compatible finger tips

And a prescription for millions of "accidental silences"....

"Sorry honey, I had no idea the dog was killed, run over by a car. I didn't know you kept calling. Didn't hear the phone ring. I had no idea the phone was on Silent since this morning."
With always-on display you will see the notification.

I think it was because Apple could not implement it on the iPads. They wanted to have similar features across the board and within the ecosystem. Logical yes but I don't think it was a good decision.

It was a step backward. I wish Apple had at least left it alone exclusively for the iPhone Pro Models. More info is below.

3D Touch was amazing, far better than the current crappy software implementation in apps. 3D touch in games for example was amazing, in driving games it worked like an accelerator or analogue trigger, press the screen gently and you drove slowly at a constant speed, the harder you pressed the faster you went and it didn't take much extra force either. With the watch it was far easier do dismiss notifications, I could force touch anywhere and dismiss, now I have to scroll to a cowing dismiss button.

Now that kind of subtle control in apps or games is impossible to do without the extra hardware, removing 3D touch is the stupidest thing Apple did in a very long time.

Yup. This has always been my "problem" with this site, is that many members here seem to forget it's "MacRumors". And the "What We Know" as in the title of several articles...I digress...
Yup. Obviously, I don't mind that these are rumors. It's in the name of the site. But call it what it is, speculation or an educated guess. We don't know anything as a fact at this point.

I think this is a really bad idea. Let me count just a FEW of the ways it will be a quantum leap from usability in the physical world...rain, anything that gets things wet - especially wet and COLD! I think it's a solution for a non-problem. Maybe one day when we have minority report style hologram projectors everywhere...On the other hand, good while driving.

HTC U12 did that, and I can say you are pretty much screw when there is a systematic problem that required physical button to respond.

Why did they take away that feature? Supply line issues? Not enough sales? Even though I'm not into iPhones, I was still kinda hoping it would become more popular nonetheless. It would've been a long stretch, but perhaps make its way into the iPad line where I would perhaps get in on that there (but even then, it'd be the basic line. Not Air nor Pro)
It's a hardware feature that most users weren't using (from my experience), as well as the fact that most (if not all) functionality has been replicated without the hardware. Having the extra components in the phone just adds complexity that is not necessary, more expensive and more difficult to manufacture/repair.

It's the same argument for having both TouchID and FaceID in a phone - having two hardware components that essentially perform the same function is not a good use of the limited space and resources inside a compact device.

I don't think this will impact battery life to any significant degree. When iOS 16 came out, I activated taptic feedback on the keyboard and turned off key sounds. I like the effect and haven't noticed any battery changes, and I'm on the 13 mini.
It will this time since battery will be smaller to provide space for those additional Taptic engines. Apple probably banking on 3nm fab to give them the extra efficiency so they can reduce battery size.

More I read about the 15 rumours, less I'm excited. How will cases or gloves work with this?

I might just go with the 14-Pro instead of trying to get my 8-plus to hang on for another 10 months.
i am sure apple will have thought of that.

but likely i guess a case will be design to be opened for that area for the buttons to be used.

for gloves i dun think it can be helped. since touch id one also cannot use with gloves.

to be frank, it is users to make it disappear.

i recalled when they first introduce 3D touch, many youtubers or users commented that they did not actually use the feature and say that the feature is redundant. however, when apple actually takes it away, then you guys commented the other way.

I bought a pair of leather gloves that have small capacitive areas at the fingertips, and it works near perfectly. I’ll have to try them with the 15 Pro Max/Ultra when it comes out. 😉

This is a bad idea especially with how Apple’s software is getting buggier and buggier. You at least need a reset button. I can see it now. Your iPhone freezes or starts acting weird and all you can do to reset it is to wait for the battery to die.
Hopefully Apple’s engineers are aware of this, if it fails on Apples’s most expensive & premium iPhone, Apple’s stock will likely be hit hard… 😉💴💴💴👀
