Like every year. Little tiny change, but still enough that your old case is not working.

Downgrade for me. I'm curious for the amount of broken USB-C ports after few months. The market will be flooded with such.
Let me tell you a secret, all the other phones use USB-C since 5+ years and nobody has broken ports. Is it you Tim Apple?

Don't think we should expect an Apple Watch with USB-C.
Or a Vision Pro which clearly has a new proprietary port.

Apple lives for this stuff, so unless they are forced to streamline stuff (thank you EU!), there will never be a single connector in the Appleverse.
If they wanna sell it in the EU then they will have to use USB-C, or they will not be allowed to sell their products here.
The following Products will need an USB-C Port:

Phones
Tablets
Digital Cameras
E-Book Reader
Portable Consoles (Nintendo Switch, Steamdeck, etc.)
Headsets
Portable Speakers
Portable Navigationssystems (TomTom)
Keyboards and Mouse
Laptops (first 2026)

So Apple will have no other choice, and its tragic that they will not do it if they are not forced to do so.

Clearly u don't live in the EU 😏
I suspect Apple would have done this, because of the Pro Res video & Raw Photos file sizes, they'll still use MFI and win that against the corrupt EU on safety grounds
Apple would have done this??
I tell you a secret, iPhone 13 Pro and 14 Pro have both ProRes but still... Lightning, so your comment makes no sense.
If Apple is degrading Charging and Transfer speeds with no MFI cables the EU will sue their a**.

Not only the US can sue Companys, its like your favorite hobby over there to sue everybody and everyone isnt it?

Oh i dried my dog in the microwave and now he is gone, so i will sue the microwave producer - here in Europa we make jokes about you guys in the US.

Not true. The recently released RAW video recording feature uses a lot of memory. 1 minute of 4K RAW video takes up to 6GB of space on the phone! That's insane! As far as I know it requires circa 8 hours to transfer 1TB of such videos from an iPhone to a mac via lightning, as the lightning supports only outdated usb2.0 protocol. 8 hours, dude!
USB-C will solve this problem and make the transferring of big amounts of data much faster.
1TB is Max storage for iPhones. Maybe the 15 comes with more.
Still I think you might be disappointed with usbc because Apple still goes the way to wireless: https://www.macrumors.com/2023/06/17/5-new-airdrop-features-for-ios-17/

The EU mandate is only about the charging port not about speed.

So they are not forced to implement the higher transfer speeds.

You still have USB-A / USB-C on the other side. And… I always charge my devices at the same time. How do you do that with only one cable? 😁
You don’t have USB-A on the other side if all your devices use USB-C. You got me on the second one though. It’s nice that if one cable fails or gets lost you can still use the other one when they’re all the same.

USB-C doesn’t automatically mean faster than 2.0 speed unfortunately. I could see Apple still going with 2.0 since that’s one of the configurations in the spec.

“It’s the most revolutionary iPhone we’ve ever built. We implemented USB-C into an iPhone. The first of its kind. We also modified the buttons by moving them a millimeter. And this concludes our iPhone 15 announcement. Back to you Tim.” -Craig Federighi

Apple lies when it says it’s committed to reducing it’s carbon footprint.
Of course. Just like a lot of celebs lie about supporting that while getting on their private plane. But, I digress...

I think we all expected another small change design wise if any. Apple doesn't really change the design much and doesn't need to. Next one will probably be when they figure out how to put the camera (and everything else) under the screen.

Honestly.. I wouldn’t mind something like this.

Really looking forward to this but I’ll miss the mute switch.
But the expected action button will be much better. It will let us to do more things, like:
1) silent mode automations (automatically enable/disable silent mode based on the time of the day, location, etc.)
2) remapping the action button for various purposes (run a shortcut, turn on/off the torch, etc) if an iPhone owner doesn't use the silent mode
3) we will most likely get a silent mode icon on the screen as a reminder to turn silent mode off, so missing calls will no longer be a problem for many people.

Not to mention Apple was one of the first companies to go all-out on USB-C, by putting it on macbooks. Macbooks have essentially had only USB-C since 2015. Apple was one of the first too. I remember when those macbooks came out wondering "what are these new connectors? I have never seen them before."

And no one is complaining about broken ports on macbooks either, despite the fact that for years you had to get a dongle to connect anything useful to them since no one else was on USB-C at the time.

I get that but the switch was nice to be able to tell if my device was muted while keeping it in my pocket. I do look forward to mapping the button to shortcuts though.

It's intriguing to see these subtle design changes for the iPhone 15 Pro. The slightly larger camera module and the relocated speaker suggest that Apple is continuing to push the boundaries of smartphone technology. I'm particularly interested to see how these changes will impact the performance of the camera. Also, it will be interesting to see how case manufacturers adapt to these modifications. As always, protecting the device without compromising on aesthetics will be the key challenge

People are harder on phone ports. Just ask Samsung owners…

The EU should pass a law requiring no changes to iPhone exterior design to keep all those old cases out of the trash. haha
Age and mental capabilities limit for participating in internet forums would be better, to filter out stoopid preschoolers.

"Now, some people have asked why we would slightly move the controls on the iPhone. It really comes down to one word: courage. The courage to move on, do something new, that betters all of us. And our team has tremendous courage." - Phil Schiller
Finally, an intelligent reply 👍
