Probably.

I can't wait until I can finally have 1 cable for everything. There is still some Apple devices using lightening outside of the iPhone (looking at you AirPod Pros), but we'll get there.

It means less stuff to pack and less waste.
Clearly you've never had to charge everything with 1 cable 🤣

The EU should pass a law requiring no changes to iPhone exterior design to keep all those old cases out of the trash. haha
They should also go all-in and force Apple to recall and recycle all of the old Lightning devices, and provide new USB-C devices, cables, and chargers at no cost.

Really hoping Apple introduces iPhone 15 Pro Max in Product Red.

Yes, only we Apple people seem to write that down.

What we DON'T do is call Apple out for choosing to go USB-C instead of Lightning in all of those Macs... and then switching to it in iPad. No, apparently, USB-C is just fine where Apple has chosen to use it and not fine (yet) where Apple has not yet chosen to use it.

What we never see in all threads that debate the point is anyone DARING to call Apple WRONG for choosing USB-C vs. Lightning in the other major products. Do you wish to be first to do that?

And I suspect AFTER Apple has made this switch, USB-C will suddenly be just fine in iPhone too... like phablet-size screen "abominations" became "shut up and take my money" once Apple moved off of the "perfection" of 3.5” and then the "new perfection" of 4" screens. I’m still looking for pants with bigger pockets and man purses to carry phablet iPhones.

We just need Apple to actually make the switch. Then USB-C will be fine... as it is in all Macs and iPads.

I don't use those ports daily like I do on a iPhone. I haven't had great luck with using Type-C ports heavily. I will not pay for a port repair on a $1700 phone. I've had lightning cables fail but when it comes to Type-C I have had way more ports fail than cables. Break on one side, become loose, or completely stop working.

Just commuting to work that's 2x times being plugged in every day. I do try to do Magsafe at my desks. Not to mention traveling where you have the phone plugged into a battery pack all day.

I have no problem replacing a cable. Type-C makes the fragile part the port instead of the cable. Comparing to iPads and computers where you plug the device in and likely sit it down on a desk is a lot different than a phone that's going to be likely used while charging.

The cutout is so large it would be ok for 2 lightning ports. Don’t see it as a proof for usb-c.

So Apple is wrong for using such fragile ports in the other lines for all these years?

Or Apple will be wrong for going USB-C in iPhones sold outside the EU?

And you’ll be back in the Fall ripping into Apple for being wrong about going USB-C when they roll it out?

Or is it only wrong/fragile/doomed to countless repairs/jiggle/fuzz magnet while Apple is still selling iPhones with Lightning… but then will be perfectly fine after the switch?

To me this is phablet hate again while Apple clung to little screens… that flips to “shut up and take my money” when Apple went phablet. How was big screens “abominations” before Apple adopted them but then perfectly fine after? I 100% believe this will be the same.

If Apple believes any of the USB-C flaws we sling, all they’ll have to do is spin how Apple USB-C is a superior implementation and… magically…the flaws/jiggle/lint magnet issues will be gone.

I'm sorry for your own bad experiences with USB-C but I don't think that is widely representative. For example, I've been using it for YEARS in my iPad which doubles as my phone (voip app + buds) with no such issues. So my "phone" experience apparently cancels your experience out. The EU law doesn't force Apple to adopt USB-C on a global scale. But Apple is going to anyway. Apparently Apple does not anticipate a massive wave of expensive repairs.

Boring Hardware, boring software and I am not necessarily meaning this as a bad thing. It simply means the iPhone has reached its peak. It is actually great that I can hold onto my iPhone 12 Pro Max for yet another year without any regrets, especially at those 1,5k Euro price tags  maybe I'll check out the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 to play around with something new in the meantime (I am used to using multiple phones at the same time).

Ironic that the one change they did actually do is only because they are forced to do it
Rate of change has peaked. iPhone will continue to improve so no peak in sight.

The cult of USBC is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Doesn't save me a single cable since ....I need separate cables to charge things anyway. Glad it saves something for some but its just a port (and one with a super fragile tongue on the computer side)

As opposed to the 'cult of Lightning' which can only charge iPhone and (mostly) iPhone accessories now, because the rest of Apple's stuff has almost entirely gone USB-C?

Make this change and Lightning accessories should quickly follow and then those who can only buy Apple and only Apple can have "one cable to rule them all." And doing so on Apple's most popular product should by far spur on a speedier shift to USB-C in many other products.

Like firewire and 30-pin before it, lightning is a dead end: proprietary, relatively slow, limited to only a small number of products, no adoption beyond the Apple bubble, no benefit to adoption beyond the Apple bubble.

I'll take the "weird" tag if it can get my Apple mix of products all able to share a single cable in the bag... at last.

Been using it for years in the rest of the Apple lineup and just can't seem to make that super-fragility disappoint me. But again, I'll take the "weird" tag if that what it takes to finally have Apple finish what THEY started.

And of course, that makes Apple "weird" too for already embracing it in the rest of the mix and already committing to going with it in the next iPhone. Who is going to write down that Apple is weird for embracing USB-C in the last of the major product lines? Anyone? Anyone at all? Note: an EU law is not a global law.

It’s simple it’s a weaker port. The port is more likely to be damaged than the cable ask any company with Type-C docking stations in the office. Look up port issues on the Pixel 3. I hope Apple can figure out a way to make the tab inside the port more durable than other devices.

You sound like you baby your equipment. At the end of the day if I go for a hike I have my phone in one pocket and a battery pack in another with a cable attached. Killed cables plenty of times that way but never had a lightning port go bad. I am honestly worried about going to a Type-C phone. I guarantee that if I go on a hike and my phone port breaks six months from now you and all the other fans will be droning on how you should be more careful with your phone even though it was never a problem with Lightning.

I don’t want to worry about having a cable hanging from my phone on its magnetic dock on my dashboard. Knowing this bunch you will tell me I should buy a new car with wireless CarPlay even though it hasn’t been a problem with lightning.

I don’t see it as a step forwards. Also plenty of rumors that Apple is still going to throttle the port to USB 2.0 speeds to save a ten cents a phone unless you buy Pro/Ultra. It’s ridiculous. I see zero benefit. It’s not a bigger screen it’s not a faster port it’s just more fragile. Lightning was a 1000x better than the 30 pin connector.

At no point should a phone upgrade be a downgrade in durability. I should not have to worry every time I plug in my phone. Once again I don’t see you claiming that you are using your iPad while charging it. You’re not hanging a cable to it you’re not tethered walking around with the cable swinging while attached. I have a Type-C iPad Mini it charges on a table and doesn’t move while charging. It’s not the same thing as a phone that’s going to be plugged in being actively used and bounced around on the couch. Do you see the difference? Before you say don’t do that, I do that currently with Lightning with no issues for the last decade.
