Agree with you on the ram but I still have 140GB free on my 256GB phone, and could easily fit my entire photo library on a 512GB phone. I really think 256 is fine for a large amount of people.
I think it depends sometimes on what youre using it for or the situation… If youre on holiday and recording a lot of video, but dont have the opportunity or ability to sync or upload it, it could prove very useful.

But youre right, for alot of people you can get by with much less.

Glad to see they're keen on lessening the blow of the $100 price increase. Better be 8GB for all storage configurations and not just the 1TB versions like they used to do with the iPad.
Wait, so they don’t do it anymore with the iPad?

Can you get 16GB ram without getting 1TB Storage?

So you won’t still be able to shoot full res ProRes on “base” “Pro” model?🤑🤑🤑

8 GB RAM on a Pro phone… this isnt Pro… Fisher Price probably put more RAM in their activity center toys. Storage needs to be at least 1 TB these days.

Agreed, these phones with their chips are so capable yet Apple holds them back.

It should look like this.

iPhone 15 pro max base ram 8gb
iPhone 15 pro max $100 upgrade 16gb
iPhone 15 pro max $200 upgrade 32gb
iPhone 15 pro max $400 upgrade 64gb

This way everyone is happy, I’d probably get a 512gb phone with 32gb ram. Then, they could justifiably call them “pro” devices.

Let’s play a game

what does the iPhone 15 Pro have that warrants 8GB of RAM?

You do realize that the full blown version of let‘s say, Genshin Impact has a 8GB RAM minimum requirements? So the iOS version had to be cut down in order to work with the RAM limitations of the iPhone.

It's also equally as foolish to believe that Apple can't keep up with other smartphones in terms of what we're offered and at what price point. They literally charge astronomical prices for any type of RAM upgrade on an iMac, when in theory, if we could just replace it ourselves with a cheaper alternative they wouldn't need to charge a premium.
Again, you have look at the overall package, not focus in on certain specs. If iPhones offered exactly the same package as other phones at a higher price, no one would buy it. It offers something else apparently of value, because people buy it. Again, value is subjective.
A publicly traded company will always maximize profit (a good company will maximize it for the long term). But if they price it too high, the market will reject it. So ultimately, Apple (or any company) doesn’t even determine the price, the market does. They are just constantly trying to predict that price. If they’re wrong, then they have to adjust or they will lose money. If they're right, and the price doesn’t change, then there is literally no one or nothing to blame except humanity as a whole.

Yeah, they do feel held back… even my iphone 13 is powerful for what it is, but the 4 GB RAM and lack of a Samsung DEX-like environment when connected to a display is a pitty. Granted they use various aspects of the processor for image processing etc but my iphone for the most part could probably get by solely with efficiency cores.

There are some things you can never have enough of in life, brakes, RAM, ice cream, clean water, etc.

The Android phones I’ve used with 12-16gb of ram make my iPhone feel arthritic. ☎️💾📼🗝️👵

Exactly and let us dock them and run MacOS Sonoma on them....

Eventually the Pro range is likely to have a docking station that converts it into a mini desktop that can be used when the full power and ability of a “real”desktop is not required. The phones are getting to that stage where they have such an abundance of power, RAM and storage.

Especially on the processor side… apples chips run circles around the competition.

Agree with you on the ram to an extent (however, iOS doesn’t need as much RAM as Android…) but I still have 140GB free on my 256GB phone, and could easily fit my entire photo library on a 512GB phone. I really think 256 is fine for a large amount of people.
For many photo management systems, including Apple iCloud and Adobe Lightroom, you don't really need your whole catalog on the device. It'll keep proxies and then download the full resolution when needed, and keep it on device until space is needed for something else. I've got about 16,000 iPhone photos plus about 15,000 Lightroom photos (mostly RAW), and on my 64 GB iPhone X, it's fine. As long as you have a decent wifi/cel connection, they're all available even though most aren't on the device. That said, I'll be upgrading this fall and will probably want at least 256 GB and maybe 512 because who knows what the future holds.

For the storage options, Apple is using NAND from a few different vendors:
  • SK Hynix
  • Western Digital
  • Kioxia
  • Samsung
so the only key player missing from this list is Micron, yet they are listed as a RAM supplier?????

something's fishy here with that info

Storage should start with 256GB, especially in case of price increase.

I'm surprised Apple doesn't up the storage, like giving a heroin addict their first taste I would assume Apple would love to then upgrade you to a higher paid storage plan.

Interesting. I didn't realize those were the only components that are used within an iPhone😉🤨🤨
You were claiming that everything has gone up in price. I give you an example of something that is not, which is things like memory and guess what … this article is about memory.

I prefer to pay monthly and get a new phone every year. Why would I want to use a 3 or 4 year old phone if I can afford it? Not everyone is in dire financial stress. A smart choice for you is not my choice for me.
A smart choice for the planet… eventually phones will have upgrade cycles much longer than what they are at the moment. A combination of upgradable/replaceable modularity (battery, processing units, camera etc) and the need to limit the impact of manufacturing processes.

Using technology and other items longer is not always because of dire financial stress.
